Paris Saint-Germain Football, commonly known as Paris Saint-Germain, or simply PSG, is a French professional football club based in the city of Paris. Paris Saint-Germain was formed on 12 August 1970 after the fusion of Paris FC – created a year earlier to fill the void of having no top-flight club in the capital – and Stade Saint-Germain, founded in 1904 in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, the birth town of Louis XIV. PSG made an immediate impact both on and off the pitch, building a substantial fanbase and winning promotion to Ligue 1 in their first season after claiming the Ligue 2 title. Their momentum was soon checked, however, and the club split into two in 1972. One branch joined CA Montreuil and continued in the first division under the name of Paris FC, while PSG assumed amateur status and had to restart in the third division.

PSG really took flight in 1973, when fashion designer Daniel Hechter took over the club and designed its classic jersey. Coached by French football legend Just Fontaine, PSG returned to Ligue 1 in 1974 and slowly began attracting the first stars of the Red-and-Blues such as Mustapha Dahleb and Carlos Bianchi. The club also moved into the Parc des Princes that year after spending their formative seasons using the Stade Municipal Georges Lefèvre. Since then, PSG have always played in Ligue 1. Top-tier status was attained within four years and by the end of the 1970s. And in 1978, Daniel Hechter handed control of the club to Francis Borelli, under whose guidance PSG won their first silverware: the Coupe de France in 1982 and 1983 and the league in 1986, during a decade marked by players such as Safet Sušić, Luis Fernández and Dominique Rocheteau.

After lurching from one crisis to another in the 2000s, PSG finally restored a sense of balance in 2011, when the club was purchased by Qatar Sports Investments. The takeover made Paris Saint-Germain one of the wealthiest in the world. Led by star player Zlatan Ibrahimović, team captain Thiago Silva and famous manager Carlo Ancelotti, the elusive league crown was finally brought back to Paris in the 2012–13 season. Zlatan's 30-goal haul almost single-handedly led the capital side to its first Ligue 1 title in 19 years, and third overall.

Paris Saint-Germain has by now established itself as a major force in France, and one of the major forces of European football. They have won a total of 38 trophies, making it the most successful French club in history by this measure. PSG is also the only club to have never been relegated from Ligue 1, the club with most consecutive seasons in the top-flight (they have played 45 seasons in Ligue 1 since 1974) and one of only two French clubs to have won a major European title. Domestically, the Parisians have won nine Ligue 1 titles, a record thirteen Coupe de France, a record nine Coupe de la Ligue, and a record nine Trophée des Champions titles. The club has also won one UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and one UEFA Intertoto Cup. PSG have a long-standing rivalry with Olympique de Marseille. The duo contest French football's most notorious match, known as Le Classique. And they play their homes games at Parc des Princes.

Got to do everything to win/draw this. If we lose we're putting pressure on ourselves... for me we should be winning the group. Why not.

With Axel out, expect a very tough night

We'll have to drop back and counter. I expect they will get a pen or 2 as our backline will struggle probably against Mbappe and Neymar

McTominay has to start if he could play. Ole's always been rubbish and dumb with his team selections.

Refusing to make obvious team selections in the name of 'managing' until the team is hurt and he can't ignore them anymore. He probably just figured out that Cavani could start games after all. He is going to do the same thing with Amad Diallo when he arrives.

    I'd go

    Henderson
    AWB Lindelof Maguire Telles
    McTominay Fred
    *** Fernandes Rashford
    Cavani

We are very capable of beating PSG once again if the players avoid complacency. I think PSG will be up for it and make it difficult for us, especially since they're facing being relegated to the Europa League.

A shame Tuanzebe isn't available for this since a back 3/5 would be ideal. A little bold to put McTominay in there versus PSG?

How many first team players are PSG missing due to suspension/injury? It's a must win game for them so they should be up for it. However, a result would mean United qualify and could get a much needed rest for the next CL game in a hectic schedule.

Huge game. Cavani needs to start. Will be tough to contain their attack even if they've been in poor form. Draw this and we're through.

    De Gea
    Wan Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Telles
    McTominay Fred
    Rashford Bruno Martial
    Cavani

Hard to see a 352 here without Shaw or Tuanzebe available. McTominay in for Matic and hopefully Martial fit enough to be in that attack to cause problems up the other end. If not, same lineup as today with VdB in and making it a diamond (but Cavani in for Greenwood).

We'll loose and face a dodgy game in Germany like we did at Wolfsburg all those years ago

PSG are ropey as shit these days. Conceding goals like nobodys business.
We sit back and counter, 3 - 0 to us

Here is the right moment to remember that Istanbul game. If we had not bottled it, we would be in comfortable position now.
I hope we get the right result as I really do not fancy us going to Germany knowing we can spoil everything good that we have done thus far.
And of course would be great to finish top of the group

The away game I thought we gave them too much respect and it showed when we switched to 4 at the back that we were far better than them.

Dont show them respect, get at them and we will win this to go through top. Easy!

1 more point qualifies. 2 points guarantees top.
If Leipzig somehow drop points to Istanbul away, we might see both the teams play for a draw, which guarantees our qualification as group winners and PSG with a home fixture against the Turkish lot to qualify.

Hoping Leipzig does drop points and we can have one of those boring draws.

Don't expect much change from the Southampton game unless it's forced. Henderson and Williams may have to come in, while I think McTominay will start.

The guy hasn’t played for 6 months and you think we keep players out for fun? If anything, we should praise him for never rushing a player. Even for VdB we took several games to allow them to learn about the league.

I think Mata, McT, Martial & Cavani will start. Common sense some players will be rotated.

Williams but if Telles is out it’ll 100% be a back 5. We won’t play Williams 1v1 with Mbappe.

Assuming Pogba is fit in time, I'd play him at #10 and give Bruno a rest.

We really need to start rotating our squad as early as possible. There won't be any margin for error between now and the end of the season because of how congested the schedule is going to be, so keeping everyone fresh is vital.

Ole made the mistake last season of picking his first XI every time they were fit and tiredness almost derailed our chances (it arguably did in the cups). I hope he learns from that and picks from his bench even when it's not forced on him - because a squad option with a point to prove is often better than a first teamer who's played a full 90 minutes three days before.

We've got a huge amount of quality and depth in the front 4 positions, so it makes sense to use it. A motivated Pogba can still be one of our best players.

It will 100% be back 5 anyway. Question is just who is gonna be our 3rd CB? Maybe McT since he has played it at Scotland.

We know the recipe for this one: back three, wing backs, well-timed pressing and aggressive counter attacks.

If Telles is fit, I think Williams could be RWB and Wan-Bissaka RCB. Ole will want to use McSauce in the double pivot alongside Fred, if available.
