This is a much tougher game then PSG. Have followed Leipzig religiously for the last 18 months and there power, running game and workrate is streets ahead of us.

We have better players but they play to a style that is so hard to stop, they attack you from all sides and not afraid to leave gaps to suffocate you in your own box.

Can we please stop with the ‘Henderson in’ horseshit? DDG’s done nothing to deserve to relinquish the GK1 position. Henderson shouldn’t be starting until the group stage matches are dead rubber. He’ll get plenty of games with the Carabao & the FA.

Why break up the positive streak of games DDG is on? It’s not like he needs to rest any matches in order to stay fresh.

Have they come across a side as defensively and atheletically strong as us but also with loads of players with exceptional individual qualities?

I don't doubt they will play better as a team and even force us into our half but at the same time I doubt we will get pressed/overrun into oblivion and we will be able to exploit gaps for counter attacking and in transition.

It's styles match up as far as I'm concerned. If Ole sets the team up same as PSG then it'd be a fairly even game imo with us the favourite :nervous:

It’s going to be good match to watch unlike the Chelsea game. At least you know Nagelsmann won’t sit deep or play for 0-0 draw like Frank Hodgson Lampard.

I’d be more confident if this game was in Germany. Amazingly, we are going to be sitting pretty in terms of qualification if we can get the win, thanks to a double header against the Turkish side whose name I cannot spell.

If we could win the first four games of the group, it’ll enable us to make the final two games dead rubbers, which could be vital in the context of a gruelling season.

Im guessing henderson will start this or it will raise serious questions about his participation this season.

Back four will hopefully be awb, lindelöf, tuanzebe, telles.

Midfield matic and pogba with vdb in front of them and cavani, martial and greenwood up top. Rest rashford a game and sub in mata in second.

Its a champions league game against one of the better sides in Germany. De Gea Will start, because he's #1.

All I want is for van De Beek, Telles and Tuanzebe to start.
    This.

Looks a harder game than Chelsea. Need our most experienced players and ones that are switched on.

Shaw was awful yesterday in attack as usual.

    Rotate it a bit.

    De Gea
    Axel - Maguire - Lindelof
AWB - Matic - Van de Beek - Telles
    Pogba
    Cavani - Martial

Looks a good team, seven changes from the last game. Its been over 8 years since we've been able to do such a thing.

I think Henderson might get a game as well.

Say want you like about Ole but this squad is a very very different squad since he came in.

Because we brought him back to play rather than watch from the bench. That is what we told him when we didn't leave him another season at Sheffield United and our first team keeper was badly off form. I'm not saying he has to play this game but he has to play more often than dead rubber games and domestic cup matches.

He has the ability to be every bit as effective as DDG.

Would you play Matic and Pogba?, I don't know much about Leipzig, but reading your post, feels like our two "speed merchants" would be tied in a knot by away team.

    Henderson
    Bissaka Tuanzebe Maguire Shaw Telles
    VDB Fred
    Bruno
    Mata Martial

Some rotation. Really think VDB Bruno and mata would be great offensively. Telles hitting Maguire on corners. Greenwood for mata, pogba for Telles to 433. And rashy for martial last 10.

The tried and trusted McTominay and Fred again. This Leipzig side will push us back inside our own half for most of the game. Neither McTominay or Fred can pass a long ball acurately, and will just block and then lose possession.

McTom might have picked up a slight knock
We won’t be resting our best players against Leipzig, they are too good for that. I know our schedule is tough and players will get overwhelmed but we have to treat CL seriously.

Mate, they are top of the Bundesliga. It's not lost on the coaches.

One of the main reasons for the selection yesterday was with this game in mind. Seems to have slipped a lot of people's minds. I know Chelsea have become rivals in recent years but Leipzig is a huge game

Win this and it's a massive result. Would hopefully make the two games in December redundant which will help massively for the derby in particular.

There’s absolutely no reason he has to play any matches as of right now. DDG hasn’t made a misstep to that degree yet. If & when DDG does, then we can have the argument, but we’re not a U-10 recreation team where everyone plays so as not to hurt anyone’s feelings. Henderson apparently hasn’t done enough in training to deserve to start a PL or CL match.

This is the game for Ole's football. We have a far better squad and they like to attach, perfect for us to counter.
We surely have a better squad on paper, but not a far better squad. There is a reason they made the CL semifinal last season.

In terms of net-worth, our squad is ranked #8 in the world and theirs is #16 (from transfermarkt).

I think this is a very tricky game. If we can score early, I think we could really abuse their relative inexperience and aggressive playing style. If we can't cope with their great pressing and positional play, it will be a long night ...

I disagree I think there are very good reasons. He needs game time to maintain his form and develop. He hasn't put a foot wrong in his games either. Its not like we are running a major risk, he is a proven premier league regular and has done really well out on loan. There is also the point that he might be better in some aspects of his game than DDG. Like coming off his line to take a cross for example.

He is at that point were he is too good to sit on the bench week in week out and he can't answer the final question about his game, whether he can deal with the pressure of playing under the spotlight at Manchester Utd without you know playing under that spotlight.

DDG is playing well and looks motivated by the challenge to his place in the team because he was gash last year. It will be a mistake to waste Henderson's talent. It doesn't mean we have to play him in the week but we absolutely should pick some league games for him to play in as well as the cups.

I’m not criticizing Henderson’s overall ability, but, again, we’re not a socialist utopia, we’re a football club whose bottom line is winning matches. Henderson has not done enough in training or the matches he’s played to apparently warrant a start in the PL or the CL. If he was promised game time before the season, I doubt he was promised anything along the lines of early league matches & critical CL group stage fixtures simply because he was in the squad. We’re not currently giving participation medals out as a club nor should we be. If Henderson or his agent thought that this would be akin to Barça’s situation with MAtS, they should have probably their respective heads checked.

That said, if DDG should make some critical errors in any of the upcoming matches or picks up an injury of any significance, he should be sat & Henderson should be given a run. Until then, Henderson hasn’t done anything that would warrant him being chosen for the next few PL or CL matches.
