Reading Football Club (nicknamed The Royals) are a professional football club based in Reading, Berkshire. They were formed on 25 December 1871, following a public meeting at the Bridge Street Rooms organised by the future club secretary Joseph Edward Sydenham. The early matches were played at Reading Recreation Ground, and later the club held fixtures at Reading Cricket Ground, Coley Park and Caversham Cricket Ground. The switch to professionalism in 1895 resulted in the need for a bigger ground and, to this end, the club moved again, to the purpose-built Elm Park on 5 September 1896. Reading were elected to the Third Division South of the Football League in 1920. Before going out of business in 1992, Aldershot were Reading's biggest rivals. Since Aldershot's exile, Reading's main local rivalries have been with Oxford United and Swindon Twon. When the three teams had shared a division, their rivalry was referred to as the "Didcot Triangle". They have been playing their home games at The Madejski Stadium since 1988.

Time to rest the usual suspects. Valencia, Herrera, Pogba, Ibra.

Jaap Stam's men have been looking very good. Won't be as easy as some might think.

    Team should be...

    ---------------De Gea---------------
    TFM----Smalling----Blind----Shaw
    -------Carrick-------Pogba-------
    Mata----------Rooney----------Martial
    ---------------Rashford---------------

Subs: Romero, Darmian, Fellaini, Mkhitaryan, Young, Lingard, Zlatan

Problem is with Basti and Sneiderlin probably off in January our midfield options aren't great so play Carrick here and then give him a week off until Liverpool and replace him with Herrera in midweek (though Pogba may need a rest soon)

Ibra should be allowed a vacation, I'd rest Herrera and Pogba too.

Rest everyone. The league and Europa should be a priority, go with the young ones and squad players up to semis in FA (if we manage to get there).

I think Carrick and Pogba should be rested, possibly De Gea too.

Finally a great chance to rest a few. Unfortunately with our lack of competent mids apart from the starters, pogba and herrera have to play IMO but they should be fine as it's a week til that game (and then they can be rested vs hull).

    Romero
    TFM Smalling Blind Young
    Mata Herrera Pogba
    Rashford Rooney martial
Hopefully Shaw to get some minutes off the bench as well. Rashford, Martial, Mata, Romero are 4 that I really hope play. Probably Young as well. Rest Rojo/Jones for the Hull and Liverpool game, or maybe play them in this and Smalling/blind against Hull. Either way, a nice couple of games to rotate and make sure everyone is fresh for Liverpool in 2 weeks.

I watched Reading today. Stam has them fighting but they looked nothing special to me, despite coming back from 2-0 down to win 3-2. Although they are 3rd in the Championship their players really aren't that great. Should be a comfortable 2-0 win.

Could see Rooney breaking Sir Bobby's record here!

Ibra, Valencia, Herrera and Pogba need a week off.

Rashford looks rejuvenated we should start him. Start Bastian or something.

Should send Pogba and Ibrahimovic on holiday as both played in the Euro 2016 and has not had much rest since then. Ibra had when it was national teams but he's 35 and played every minute the last 6 weeks. Send them away. And keep Herrera rested here too along with Valencia and Carrick.

Who plays in central midfield then i'm not sure but rest as many we can.

For this FA Cup, a total squad rotation is called for IMO.

I'd use players that are on the fringe, itching to get in or those getting irregular minutes.

    Romero
    Fusa-Smalling-Blind-Darmian
    Schweinsteiger
    Lingard Rooney Mata Martial
    Rashford

    Riley Smalling Blind Darmian
    TFM Schweinsteiger
    Rashford Mata Martial
    Rooney
    Priorities, in order of importance:

    - Rest all three first choice midfielders.
    - Start Timmy. If not now, when? Ideally in CM (see first point), but given that he can also play FB there's no excuse.
    - Rest Valencia.
    - Start Rashford and Martial. Both just had games suggesting they're ready to hit form again. Test that here.
    - Rest Ibra. No signs of fatigue from him yet but despite his freak condition, he is 35 and has played almost every game.
    - Start Mata. With such hot competition in his position, especially Miki, he needs game time where he can get it.

I know I've left Fellaini out. It always seems like starting someone like Fellaini is what buggers you in these games. You pick some kids and fringe players, sure, but they're all still gifted footballers looking to use their ability to outplay the opposition. But then they have to do it while also coping with Fellaini's incompetence. Carrick might be able to do that but it's a bit much to ask Timmy Fosu-Mensah to do it while he's also trying to handle the step up and generally prove himself.

Probably start most of today's bench players, which should give Reading a lot to think about.

Just rest Ibrahimovic, Pogba, Carrick and Valencia for both this and the Hull first-leg.

Agree. Reading are really impressive this season and Stam looks like he's going to become a good manager. I think they'll definitely pose a threat.

I think TFM might start in midfield, hope he starts somewhere anyway.
Pogba, Herrera, Zlatan, Miki, DDG should be rested.

If Rooney's not fit then Rashford, and Shaw in for Darmian if he is fit.

Key over the next 2 games is to give rests to Zlatan, Herrera, Pogba, Carrick, and Valencia.

Surely if Rooney is fit Rashford should be in there anyway, instead of Lingard?
