Southampton Football Club (nicknamed The Saints) are a professional football club based in Southampton, Hampshire. Southampton were founded in 1885 by members of St Mary's Church of England Young Men's Association. St. Mary's Y.M.A., as they were usually referred to in the local press, played most of their early games on The Common where games were frequently interrupted by pedestrians insistent on exercising their right to roam. More important matches, such as cup games, were played either at the County Cricket Ground in Northlands Road or the Antelope Cricket Ground in St Mary's Road. The club was originally known as St. Mary's Young Men's Association F.C. (usually abbreviated to "St. Mary's Y.M.A.") and then became simply St. Mary's F.C. in 1887-88, before adopting the name Southampton St. Mary's when the club joined the Southern League in 1894.

Southampton play their home games at St. Mary's Stadium, and were one of the founding members of the Premier League in 1992. The club has a long-standing sporting rivalry with Portsmouth in a match termed the South Coast Derby or the Hampshire Derby. Southampton has received praise for employing an attractive brand of football under Mauricio Pochettino, and having one of the best youth systems on English soil - which has produced the likes of Alan Shearer, Gareth Bale, Matth Le Tissier, Theo Walcott, Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain, James Ward-Prowse, Calum Chambers, Adam Lallana over the years - as well as current Manchester United leftback, Luke Shaw.

Keep Ings quiet and we win this. By the time we play this one, we will know CAS's verdict regarding City's CL ban.

They're an excellent away team and Ings is on fire. This will be Ole's first real test.

Danny Ings and Sons are no mugs away from home... They're joint 4th in the away league table, and in general are well drilled /organised.

    We'll win 3-0

They press extremely high up the pitch and with great intensity, too. If we can withstand that and bypass their first press, our front five should cause them plenty of trouble at the back.

Hopeful for another goalfest but a 1-0 win would be just the tonic, too. Important thing is to keep the momentum going.

    First real test for Ole.
It feels like we're in his honeymoon period again.

We were walking at times today so hopefully we've saved enough energy to give Southampton a torrid time.

I doubt Chelsea or Leicester will drop points as they play Sheffield United and Bournemouth respectively.

You don't think Chelsea can drop points against Sheffield?

    Southampton are extremely well drilled.

We have to be at our very best and be dominant from the first minute here. If they grow into the game and put us on the backfoot it's going to end ugly for us, and we absolutely cannot lose points right now. I think it will be very tough, can actually see Southampton walking away from this with 1 point or 3 points even.

City should have scored 5 and they resorted to long balls as the pressure was applied. We play well against the counter so should be another handy wi

They seem to win or lose, don’t draw many and thankfully they mostly lose
5th team in terms of most goals conceded against our 5th rated attack which is getting better and better

As others have said, keep Ings quiet, stop the balls into him and it will be an easy night.

    4-0 Martialx2, Mason and Rashy.

    Same 11, let's gooooo.

Ralph Hassenhuttl, is in many ways very similar to David Wagner. He tries to be a mini-Klopp playing a high energy pressing game, and willingly will allow his team to get rogered by Liverpool since they are their feeder club, yet has a habit of stepping it up against us.

This will by no means be an easy game and I will happily take a scruffy 4-3 win.

Let's see how the CAF twists another game we would breeze through into our toughest game yet and a must win

Our press resistant play havent been convincing today or against B’mouth. Will be dangerous.

This will be a tough one. Southampton have looked good in their last few games, well drilled, press really high and Ings is in amazing form. Our lads really need to be on top on their game especially playing out from the back where we look quite dodgy at times. Can’t afford any feck ups at this stage.

If they go for it and don't score early, this will be a stroll. If they get a goal first it could be interesting.

    3-1 (Fernandes, Martial, Greenwood)

They're actually very good away from home - 4th best away record in the league. They have been most of the season, but I'm backing us in a high scoring game.

    4-2 (Martial x2, Rashford, Shaw)

I was more worried about Villa tonight than I am about the Saints. Give Matic a rest , start Fred play the rest , get the job done early and subs in.

Stick with the same XI. I have full confidence in us beating them.

Very likely the same XI. Matic & Greenwood were subbed off today so doubt we will see any rotation in the starting XI.

Will be a very tough game, and a tough week. Southampton Monday, Palace Thursday, Chelsea Sunday. Thankfully we've been able to rest players quite a bit during games so far with comfortable victories, but this will be a tighter game. Hopefully they have an off day where they aren't that bothered so we don't over tire our players again.

It would be another comfortable day for United ,another victory with 2 or more goals margin should be expected any thing less would be disappointing.
