Thinking about this game messes with my brain.

We're (mostly) pretty good in the Europa League

But so are Spurs

It's a final though, and we should win in a final with our experience and whatnot

But Ange always wins a trophy in his second season

And we are really really crap when we play other Prem sides

But Spurs are the only non-relegated Prem side having as bad a season as we are.

We're really crap though

So are they

Yeah but they've beaten us 3 times this season

So surely we're due a win?

Or not, I don't feckin' know.

It’s pretty obvious it’ll go go pens, let’s be real.

Low block, counter, hang on for dear life. That’s all this team has ever been good at in the last six or seven years. Seriously wouldn’t be against a set up like against City in the FA cup final last year or against Arsenal in the cup. Yes it’s Spurs we’re against but we’re just not very good.

Worst possible advice.

This is Spurs, they can be got at.

If we don’t play with more intensity than we have been in our league games all season we’ll lose, plain and simple. We get bullied by every team in the league. Spurs have been poor all season but it’s no coincidence they’ve beaten us 3 times.

Just hoping because it’s a final there’s a bit more aggressiveness about us. It shouldn’t take a final to bring that out of us but that’s where we are.
Exactly same effort as against Liverpool and city and we’ve a good chance.

Rules number 1 to win the final. Do not play Hojlund and Lindelof at all.

For Hojlund position, put Mount as false 9. For Lindelof, I think we have enough defensive cover.

Rules number 2, stay a bit deeper and let Spurs press high up. They are prone to counter attack. Put Garnacho and Amad at both flanks for counter attack. It will be deadly.

Finally, this is easier said than done, we are prone to concede silly goals. But by staying deeper and a bit more defensive hopefully we can keep the back tight.

It would be interesting to see if this Manutd team can go 1 game without making silly silly mistakes at the back...

The thing is, so can we! If we’re as open as we were in the game when EtH was in charge (which in all likelihood we won’t be, but for arguments sake) Spurs will kill you attacking the space. It’s one of the reasons I just can’t see us starting Amad at RWB which people seem to want on here.

Amad needs to start in AM. I’d much rather have Dalot there and have extra defensive cover. Have Bruno next to Casemiro with Mount and Amad behind Garnacho. Let the front 3 cause problems for there defence.

Just love how some people on here think we can just waltz into Bilbao and turn it on with diabolical league form

I wouldn’t mind seeing something like that. Amad (and Mount to an extent) are giving him a selection headache for the final which is a good thing.

As for Dalot, depends if he’s fit. People are going to be so pissed off when they see Lindelof lining up for the final, with Maz at RWB  :(. Probably not really an alternative though at this rate.

Other alternative would be Dorgu on the right and Shaw on the left but does he even have the pace anymore to get up and down that left side.

That is insane if true, how is he still a ref!?
It was 20 years ago, and he was the one speaking out against the main culprit at the time. Still got banned for accepting 300€ or something like that to influence a lower league match together with the main culprit Hoyzer.

It was a massive scandal back than and him still being allowed to ref has been a cause for discussion and controversy time and time again

That Liverpool game especially gives me the slightest bit of hope. I remember Amorim being annoyed that we don’t play with that intensity every week in his post match interview. Let’s hope it’ll take a final to get it out of them.

I think they really have just thrown in the League and are simply protecting themselves now. Think we'll see genuine effort in the Final
Well they shouldn't be in the squad with that kind of lackadaisical attitude then in my opinion. I'm getting fed up of seeing our players phone it in for this.

Both teams sandbagging in the league to try and catch the other out. 3d chess.

Romero and VDV weren’t playing right? They’re far better defensively with them starting - not to say they aren’t still poor defensively - all Ange teams are out of possession - but I wouldn’t get too excited from watching them against Palace.
Yeah they are a different prospect with those two

Don’t know if we can start Maguire, Ugarte and Cass together for this one. But not sure there’s another option. The Yoro injury definitely hurts us.

You'd have thought that would blacklist him from reffing but I guess not. Let's see if we get an Ovrebo like performance in the final, hopefully we do in our favour.

I’d prefer us start with Bruno and Cas in midfield but he could very well have Ugarte in there and start Bruno as one of the 10s. That would be the more defensive move though which i hope we don’t do

Let’s be honest it could go either way but we have been strong in Europe and this competition that’s for sure, so have they. Going to be a crazy match to watch

Not only is it too defensive, we end up losing control of the game too because we cannot keep the ball.

Whilst it says defensive, its a defensive selection but we dont actually play that well defensively, we give up a few chances.

So by doing Ugarte Case, not only does it mean we are playing a so called defensive line up, it also diminishes Bruno's role in the game because he is not good with back to play.

If Amorim wants control, Bruno has to be playing CM with Amad or Mount in the 10 who can control the ball back to goal alot better.

Agreed all round. I’m hoping the recent selections of Cas and Ugarte together was more because we didn’t have Amad available. Now that he will be starting, hopefully as one of the 10s, it can free up Bruno to sit further back. We look much better when he’s in that position.

Its because teams usually press us... so in normal circumstances, Bruno at 10.. means there is no-one to play in behind.

When teams press, typically the space is in behind... when Bruno is in CM, he will find the run of Garnacho, Amad... Ugarte and Casemiro generally are not playing that ball quick.

Our win percentage against teams still in the Pl is around 16% or so. There's no point in leaning on our European successes, we are not able to beat other Premier League teams with any frequency. Tottenhams record is similarly crap, but since the turn of the year they have beaten Brentford, Liverpool and United. I hate to say it but Id have them as favourites after beating us three times this season. I dont think that happens by coincidence.

They're easily favourites, people suggesting otherwise haven't been paying attention.

This Spurs team are pretty one dimensional, but that one dimension is tailor made to beat us. They're stronger and faster all over the pitch, will press high and force turnovers, and any time we go long van de Ven will easily outpace our forwards, none of whom have the close control to beat him.

There was a bit of hope given their injuries, but we're missing folks too; our best press-breaking defenders in Martinez due to his passing, and Yoro due to his ball carrying. Heaven looks very handy at the latter, but he's out also. Our best hope is likely Amad, he's excellent at beating opponents and recycling the ball. If we can deal with their press reasonably well, Spurs will tire, which will expose their technical and positional deficiencies. But the danger is that they're already out of sight by the time that happens, especially given our awful finishing.

Should be a win for United. You are not losing to Spurs 4 times in one season.

We’ve beaten Spurs once in twelve games since 2019, a run which includes a 1-6 defeat and a 0-3 at home this season - a game which I left early for the first time ever we were that bad.

They’ll rightly be favourites.
I haven’t looked into it but I can recall us doing the double over them in 21/22. Ronaldo scoring a hat trick in one of those games. Time to revisit those stats.

Looked into it, since 2019:

- 1-1 draw (away, 19/20)
- 1-6 loss (home, 20/21)
- 3-1 win (away, 20/21)
- 3-0 win (away, 21/22)
- 3-2 win (home, 21/22)
- 2-0 win (home, 22/23)
- 2-2 draw (away, 22/23)
- 2-0 loss (away 23/24)
- 2-2 draw (home, 23/24)
- 0-3 loss (home, 24/25)
- 4-3 loss (away, cup 24/25)
- 1-0 loss (away, 24/25)

That’s 4 wins in 12 games and 5 losses.

I’ve also checked and the bookies have us as odds on favourites. So this 1 win in 12 and them “rightly being favourites” is complete nonsense.
