If memory serves, we've never played against Tottenham in any cup final. We've played them in an FA Cup semi, a Cup Winners Cup tie, but never in a final. We have a good record against London teams in Europe, beating Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham. League form counts for nothing in a one-off game so I have to think we'll beat them. That's my two bob's worth. Totally unscientific; just a gut feeling.
We beat them in the League Cup final in 2009.

We will win the rest of our league games and get beaten in extra time in this one. That's a good bet considering this season. After all this time the one thing I really miss from our glory days was the consistency. My heart insists it'll be 4-1 to United with a Spurs goal in the first 10 minutes

We need to start on the front foot and get at their defence. I’ll have a lot more confidence if Amad starts, which he should.

And if league form did count for anything, theyd be as fecked as we would be

We start on the front foot in maybe 10% of our games and they have beaten us comfortably three times this season. We can't handle their pace. Great to have Shaw and Amad back though.

Comfortably? Under Amorim it was a Carabao cup and howlers from the Altay. And then it was a 1-0 where we actually played quite well and deserved more.

I feel like whichever way this goes, we'll be saying it "wasn't it obvious that's how it would go?"

If we win, it's almost too obvious that serial losers Spurs wouldn't be able to win a highly pressurised final, with the blow of Maddison being injured, with their manager about to be sacked the day after the final no matter the result.

If Spurs win, it's almost too obvious that United cannot physically compete with Premier League sides as they've proved all season, Spurs had our number all season beating us 3 times already and Ange is due a redemption arc after everyone laughed at him when he said "I always win things in my 2nd season".

I really don't know. If we have a fully fit squad I think we'll probably edge it as Amad is a difference maker and we have more players who have won finals before. I feel like our name may have been on the trophy when we made the comeback vs Lyon.

But it also wouldn't surprise me if they run all over us, go 1 or 2 goals up, and then we can't get back into it because we don't have the decisive quality in attack to turn dangerous situations into goals, as has been the problem all season. Similar to our away game vs Spurs in the league.

I’m convinced we will win this. Even if Spurs were 3rd I would be, the fact they’re somehow below us makes me even more certain. We’ve got players who have been there before. I don’t normally jinx us but I think we’ll win. Even if we don’t I don’t think it’s the big deal people make out. I don’t mind Spurs, quite like Ange, and it’d be funny if Arsenal are on the longest trophy drought in the big 6. People also massively overrate the need for CL qualification.

A soundbite to others but probably incredibly important to that team. He'll have those players believing big time now.

Good players in sh*t system vs sh*t players in good system... alright, but... which is which??

I think Garnacho should start up top against that Spurs high line. Højlund has offered little to nowt and the stakes are too high to just run him out again in blind faith. Amad and Bruno behind Garnacho seems a much safer bet.

Stakes are too high so let’s play a winger who can’t finish up front ? Make it make sense

Please for the love of god I hope you're not a betting man.

Does anyone know where the United fans congregated for the away leg of the semi-final??

Mainly so I can avoid it and enjoy some Pintxos and good beer and wine?

I'm not. But that's my point. Betting against a United win has been steady money over the last few seasons. We don't know how this squad will turn up at any given time and the way this season has panned out a sneaky tenner on it isn't necessarily wasted. I couldn't justify putting say 1000 on United for the final, that's a risky bet. 100 on each of our remaining league games to get the blood pumping is doable.
It's heads or tails with this club, even if the coin is weighted. I used to double my stake every month backing this club. I stopped a few years ago because I didn't (in my own head) want to jinx us.

Injuries to Romero, Van de Ven and Vicario. They are a far better side with those available than their league position.

They should be favourites in my opinion.
They shouldn’t be favourites though. Like Carragher said we’ve got experience of lifting trophy’s they haven’t and that could play a part. Nerves could get the better of them.

Off late I expect us to lose every PL game we play whether it's home or away, but for some reason I am very confident about this one. Although it's a PL opposition I feel it being a different competition and a final makes it a whole different ball game. I feel we are a much better team if we have the squad that was available for Bilbao for this game. We have more weapons in attack, we have more experience, we have more depth, we know how to win finals, we are simply better than Spurs. I just cannot see us losing this.

If we manage to win this, our league position seems to be going in the opposite direction of the quality of cup wins.

League Cup + 3rd
FA Cup + 8th
Europa League + 15th??

Let's hope next year will not be Champions League + relegation at this rate.
"Did you win the Champions League?"
"Yes..."
"What did it cost?"
"Everything..."

goals have been the issue all season of course.

But they really worry me in this final

Spurs have similarly had a terrible season but playing without their first choice back for long periods.

Porro, Romero, VDV, Udogie are all however now available and been getting minutes in their legs over the last few weeks.

I just can’t see a goal in open play. I hope I’m wrong

We need to get our best players out there and let them take care of it.

If fit:

Onana (sigh)

De Ligt
Maguire
Yoro

Shaw
Mazraoui

Ugarte (Mainoo is better, but legs)
Casemiro

Amad
Mount

Bruno (False 9 like FA Cup final)

This team gives us lots of flexibility depending on which way the wind blows.

Garnacho, Mainoo and Hojlund all the obvious bench options. I’m not really having Dorgu at this point.

They shouldn’t be favourites though. Like Carragher said we’ve got experience of lifting trophy’s they haven’t and that could play a part. Nerves could get the better of them.
They have a better XI than us, on that basis they should be favourites.

I have them down as favourites.
I don't have much confidence in our side when we're up against PL opposition.

This is my only hope too really. They are renowned bottle jobs and have zero winning experience. United still have a better silverware reckon than Arsenal and Spurs combined since Fergie left, and even this bunch have proven they’ve got that winning mentality in big games what with the last ditch turnarounds.

As has been mentioned a lot though, there’s a reason Spurs have beaten us 3 times this season. We can’t cope with them physically, so we need to take a different route.

I wanna see lots of technical players on the pitch, we’ve not got physicality in midfield anymore since McT left, Hojlund is basically a quavers packet, and De Ligt is injured. So let’s just play them off the park with Yoro, Bruno, Mount, Diallo etc

really unfortunate de Ligt most likely won't play

how's their attack been this season?

my only hope is Amorim tactically outsmarts Ange
You’d think after the last few games against them he’d have an idea what needs to be done. But alls it can take is individual mistakes. We seen that in a game against them earlier in the season. Both of us gifted goals with mistakes.

This is absolutely the way.

We need the players that can look after the ball.
