Manchester United Women | Silly Season | Summer/winter 2025

Just the rumours from various places online.
My Arsenal mates seem fairly confident that she’s going there as a long term replacement to Kim Little.
Who knows what the truth is though.
Yeah, it's hard to know what to make of their confidence without knowing the reasons behind it.

In the meantime, here's one more reason I think Stanway might choose United: Given her background and history, she probably has many more friends and family in and around Manchester than London.

Ella's contact has a one year option? Wow. That's good news. It makes sense of the seeming lack of urgency from United, though I hope we are negotiating. If she's willing to stay for longer I want her to stay.

I think the rumour is inevitable. Arsenal have worked hard to build their collection of Lionesses. Partly for footballing reasons but also for marketing ones. Arsenal are the team who've been most successful in cashing in on England's success - it's part of how they've built up their crowds. They're averaging over 30k for their WSL matches now and they're taking thousand+ to some of their aways.

They're known as good payers and that WCL win last year did a lot to make people forget how dominant Chelsea are in England.

For Stanway then? More money - not just from Arsenal but from the sponsors and the marketing opportunities of being a London based lioness. Big crowds, lots of backing from the club, always in the running for the big prizes.

It depends what she wants of course. The Arsenal fans think everyone wants to join them - so the buzz may be nothing more than that.

Spurs are 1 point behind us and have now signed 5 new players this window

Signe Gaupset, Matilda Nilden who is younger sister of their leftback Amanda Nilden and Hanna Wijk, both from Hacken, Julie Blakstad - ex-Man City, and Hamano on loan from Chelsea

They are all young but most look good signings. None are as high profile or proven as Schuller. But if enough of them settle fast Spurs could continue hot on our heels for the top 4

London City Lionesses also have a new manager. So they might do better in the 2nd half of the season

Re : Stanway - She tattooed all her Bayern teammates in the summer. If she was thinking about leaving I doubt that would have happened

Her teammates at Bayern are all "tatted out," so now she needs a new group of victims.

Arsenal have signed Holmberg. So thats the 2 young players I was hoping we'd sign after the euros going to Spurs and Arsenal. Probably not much we could do if she had decided on Arsenal

I'll be gutted if someone signs Shinjo next

Williams to Leicester - a permanent move!
Noooooooo!

But also wish her all the best and see why it is a good move for her.

But…nooooooooo!

It'll be strange to see a team sheet without her. Some great late rescue work from her over the years and of course crucially a goal against Chelsea in the FA cup semifinal back in 2024. That win with goals from Rachel and Lucia Garcia set us up for our WFA Cup final win against Spurs. And, of course, she scored in the final as well.

Reminiscences aside, it's the right time for her to leave, for her and for us. Incidentally, Rachel's from Leicester and she's heading back to her first club so I'm guessing that helped her to decide.

Leicester have also signed Ashleigh Neville today, so they're obviously not content just to sit back and watch other teams strengthen.

This sounds great for Rachel. She was unlikely to see very much (if any) playing time with us now that we've signed Schuller, but she can still be an impact player in the right situation. And the opportunity to finish her career at home is a wonderful bonus.

With Tooney now due to be out for a few weeks, and Hini going off for international in February, methinks a central midfielder would be a priority.

Feels like a real shame. Another one leaves without us ever really seeing her get a chance for us.

From what I’ve read she’s a highly rated, young striker that a lot of big clubs were interested in, so that would be a big coup for us. If this is true, we suddenly have a lot of options in the striker position with her, Terland, Malard and Schüller. Although I think she played on the right against us in the CL qualification match. It would sense if she’s seen as an option on the right wing, as we only have Park there right now.

I don't understand what the plan is here. From what I've read Wangerheim is primarily a traditional 9, although she "can" play on the right wing. We already have two traditional 9's in Terland and (now) Schuller, and three if we count Malard. We need another midfielder, not another striker. Are we expecting Terland to leave? Are we planning to use Wangerheim as a winger instead of at her primary position? I have so many questions....

Wangerheim has 17 goals and 10 assists in the Swedish league last time round, Schroder is 3 years younger at 18 and had 30 goals 9 assists. I'm assuming shes going to one of the bigger clubs and wasnt available to us

Bayern have apparently announced Stanway will leave in the summer on a free

Assuming they are looking for more options up front as while it was Terland or Malard there were some games where neither of them were clinical enough.

Yes, but we just signed Schuller. How many strikers do we need?

I don't know too much about her, but Wangerheim seems to have a smattering of big clubs interested in her (Chelsea, City, Wolfsburg), so it might be just a case of signing a top young talent who became available.

Malard is probably not seen as a striker anyway, and Williams is 38, so it'll be Schuller, Terland, and Wangerheim competing for the spot and she might be at a different level quality-vise to Terland, I don't know.

I always remember that Chelsea cup final a few years back where we were playing well but couldn't score, then Chelsea brought on Harder and they got the winner not long after. Having depth of quality up front is something we've long missed.

Well sure, it's great if you can bring Pernille Harder on from the bench!

What we really need is a good 10 who can sub for Tooney while allowing Park to play on the wing where she excels.

I think Simi can play that role. I'd be going all out for Georgia Stanway.

Yes, Simi can play that role, but I'm not sure she's ready to do so at a high level in the short term. In the long term, I wonder whether the 10 is the best place on the pitch for her, and I suspect that one reason she hasn't seen more playing time is that Skinner hasn't figured that out yet either. She's definitely on my starting roster for Sevens, though!

I love the idea of getting Stanway, in part because she could be effective anywhere in the midfield and thus could get a lot of playing time without replacing anyone in particular. As I understand it, though, she doesn't plan to leave Bayern until this season is over, and we need midfield help now.

That, and all the noise is that Stanway's off to Arsenal. Lioness collect-athon as it is down there.

Emma Watson off to Mexico on loan? Ok, I'm surprised by this one, though I'm not surprised that she won't be staying with us having come back from Palace. I'm not sure if Emma has family or other ties to Mexico, or if she just liked the idea of playing there.

So she won't be adding to our "young players in WSL" minutes this year. The scorecard currently:

United's 90 minutes are all from Safia Middleton Patel, who took over while Phallon was injured.
