I also think she has a lot of potential, and maybe could benefit from moving to a squad where she can get more playing time and perhaps a system that suits her better (think Jess Park, for example). We, however, are up to our neck in strikers -- including two who also fit into the category of young up-and-comers: Terland is 24 and Wangerheim is 21, and I don't want to give up either of them. (I realize that the latter didn't shown particularly well this season, especially when forced to play on the wing, but I have a hunch that she has the potential to be great.)

I’d say we need replacements for Turner, Naalsund, George and Bizet. To improve the squad, we should aim to sign starters for these positions and add more competition for places that way.

For me, the biggest priority is getting 2 wingers in, one on each side. Players with pace who can beat a defender one-on-one and get a cross in.

After that, we need a left back, a midfielder and centre back. Ideally, we'd also second midfielder/defender depending on what's available and where we see Dom playing next season.

I'd love us to sign a world class striker, but that's isn't gonna happen, so I'm fine with seeing how Schuller and Wangerheim get on next season even if Terland goes. If we do get a couple of wingers in, it also frees up Malard to play more centrally if needed.
 
Getting back to Beever-Jones: The source of the rumo(u)r was a lengthy article in The Athletic two days ago about Chelsea women. I just read it and want to point out what exactly it said: "The 22-year-old had attracted interest from Manchester United earlier this season." (The context was the observation that with Kerr leaving, Beever-Jones is one of only two strikers on their roster.) This makes me wonder if perhaps we were making a move for her back in the winter transfer window, and after Chelsea (and/or she) balked we signed Wangerheim and Schuller instead. That would make a lot more sense than us currently chasing her given how many strikers we already have.

Think she can play RW too. Plus Chelsea are interested in Felicia Schröder.
 
I'd love us to sign Beever-Jones. She'd be a great addition to the squad. I also agree that wingers should be a priority - not sure about the left but I do rate Freya Godfrey at LCL for the right - although convincing Kang to sell her would be difficult.

As I said previously I think the question is moot because we might no longer be in contention for her. But putting that aside, we already have four 9s in Terland, Schuller, Wangerheim, and Malard. (I've included Malard because although she can play anywhere on the front line, IMO she's at her best in the 9. I've also included Wangerheim because although she ostensibly can play on the wing, she also IMO has looked much better in the middle.) Who would you give up to make room? I doubt she'd be interested in coming here if she weren't guaranteed a lot of minutes.

Chelsea dont seem to fancy her as a striker. She tends to play more on the left wing and thats with Ramires injured. With Thompson doing so well and James' return she could potentially be surplus especially because a bit like Malard, her 4 goals in the league came early on then she didnt score for ages. Her last WSL goal was in September 2025. Now obviously she got some goals in the cups against WSL teams, but it does remain true that she scored her 4 WSL goals this season in September and then didnt score again in the WSL. She certainly has potential but you can imagine Chelsea will need to make some bold moves to keep their squad happy and find a new level they didnt manage this year so cashing in on Beever-Jones among others might have been a consideration.

As for Medina she played 3 games against us in the champions league. Fotmob has her as Atletico's 3rd best player in la liga, but 10th in the champions league where competition is harder. While Atletico werent impressive against us, they did have lots of young players with Medina 2nd youngest to Fiamma Benitez. The league stat is good, I'd say she struggled against us in those 3 matches as Atletico did in general but shes young and might be a decent backup.

I suppose it's just a good (and common) business strategy to say things like "I just know I have got to make a decision on what’s best for me" and "Right now, I’m a Manchester United player" -- but hearing those things from Tooney gives me a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach.

Oh yes, of course: That should be every player's attitude all the time. It just sounds weird (and somewhat ominous) coming from Tooney in particular since it is so hard to imagine her ever moving away from her hometown and playing for anyone else. But I suppose if she's headed soon into contract negotiations it would be pretty stupid to publicly announce that she isn't willing to consider other options. (She's not stupid.)

Seriously though, I think Toone is having a fair bit of success with her private academy, it wouldn't surprise me at all if she felt like she could make a big go of it if she took it on full time.

Mallard is class, it would be painful for her to go.

Toone is still in the England squad and is only 29 so why would she quit playing and go full time with her private academy?

Because, as I said, she is making a fairly decent go of it and being ahead of the curve in terms of private academies for girls/women's football could end up being quite lucrative for her. It is a smart play for her post-playing career.

She's actually only 26 (!).

I think it would be a poor business decision for her to retire now, or soon, to go full-time at the academy, because part of the Academy's success in bringing in business is because it's run by a beloved current Lioness and Red Devil. She still has a lot of work to do on the pitch for her name to carry a lot of weight after she's retired. Plus, I don't think the Academy takes a huge amount of her time because Joe is tending to all the day-to-day stuff.

And that’s what she will do after she can no longer cut it at the top of the game. I think it highly unlikely she will go while she is both an international player and one of the top WSL players.

Then that is fair enough, I didn't know the extent of the help she has to run it currently.
 
Toone leaving United won't happen. Toone "retiring" at 26 to focus on her Academy is ridiculous - she lives to play football. For United.

Malard leaving is a possibility and would be very hard to take.

The funny thing about the Toone contract negotiation is that on the one hand, the club (like everyone else) knows that it would take a Force of Nature to get her to leave United, but at the same time the club knows that it cannot afford to lose her given her popularity with the fanbase. I'd love to be a fly on the wall for those meetings.

I too would be crushed if Malard left. By every account she is extremely happy here, and her teammates seem to love having her here as well. It's possible that she receives other offers that the club isn't willing to match -- but then they'd better be prepared to spend at least the same amount of money on someone like Beever-Jones to replace her.
 
does anyone really think Toone in her current form should be in our best starting 11? ahead of Terland, Malard, Park, Rolfo? who drops out?
i really think Park should always be 10, shes much better central than wide IMO

dont get me wrong toone would be great to keep in the squad, but would she want that? especially considering a new contract would prob reflect that standing....

and honestly i think they need to find another effective wide player this summer
