That was an incredibly solid performance. That bit at the end where he evaded pressure and got out of a tight spot with Rashford was brilliant. Very composed.

i am just concerned he might be a very limited player . He also appears to commit mamy fouls that can result in red cards.

Unsurprisingly he looks comfortable in this setup, I'm sure Ruben will relish having someone he can rely on in there while others take their time to get up to speed with what's being asked of them.

1 red and 3 double yellows in 245 games. That's less than once in an entire season basically. I'll take it.

He ain't Modric or Kroos, he isn't meant to be anyway, but for starters he doesn't shirk responsibility for outcomes. Some are calling it composure, but a more apt comparison with what we've been regularly served up with is "not treating the ball like a hot potato you want to be rid off asap".

Very good performance. Keep it up please. We are desperate for some quality in that area of the pitch

He's much better on the ball than he's given credit for, although he has been showing it more and more as he's settled. He'll be good for us.

He hunts down the ball with some precision. He does brilliantly to intercept and break up play and even got an assist.

Not only is a brilliant hunter, he’s quick and efficient with the ball when he does win it.

Not every player needs to be a champagne highlights player. Having a guy who does the basics this well and with such energy, will release the more creative players once they get used to working off him.

Yep. And he is able to contribute to our attack as well. Hit one gorgeous switch of play and let’s not forget that assist

Agreed yeah. I thought most of our attacks today either started with him winning the ball, or had a touch from him somewhere along the way.

A long way to go, but he’s the closest in style to a Roy Keane type that we’ve had since Keane. Tenacious, huge engine and then quick and accurate with the ball once he has it.

I’m not impressed. I think he actually looked better running into advanced areas, closing down in advanced areas. In terms of protecting the defence I don’t like what I’ve seen, he looks 2 seconds behind the game at times and just nips at heels as he’s beaten instead of really being effective.

Good to see us having a defensive monster, he reads the game so well. Also switches the play well, carries the ball well. He might not be a technically elegant player but on and off the ball, he looks good. He releases the ball quickly too when he is under pressure.

More impressed with how he reads the game. I think easily our first choice CM, with Mainoo back to full fitness can see him and Mainoo as first choice CM pair.

Head coach trust helped him - he is more composed now. Very efficient performance last night, and an assist too which is excellent

I think he is a ball hunter in the Kante/Fletcher mode and will need a seater as partner. It could benefit us as we could play a DLP type, so we could develop Mainoo as that player cause he excels in duels, is press resistant and playing deeper would hide his recovery pace issues.
