Usually concede goals and drop points. Would love to see the stats with him on the pitch.
In the 19 games he's been involved:

Score with him on the pitch: 11-21
Score with him not yet on or taken off: 17-4

Hilarious.

I somehow knew we would lose when he got subbed on. Crazy thing is he wasn't even that bad today and nowhere near at fault for the goal. Just cursed.

He made a tackle and stopped someone running through the midfield. What kind of sorcery is that? Definitely black magic as our midfielders can't do that.

Would be a better partner for Casemiro in this game.

That and he ran down that long ball near the touch line

any player with two legs is better than Mainoo who would struggle to get into paralympic squad.

I thought exactly the same. His stats for coming on and us dropping points must be interesting.

Not that he was particularly bad or anything, but I can't see him succeeding here.

But what the hell happened when he just fell over while seemingly being in full control of the ball? I need to see that again  It was a proper "Ugarte.exe has stopped working" moment.

Showed more when he came on than Mainoo did all game, but both should be upgraded on in the Summer.

Was never going to make the difference tonight, likely only brought on because of how ineffective our starting midfielders were.

Was ok considering, was able to cope with the athleticism of Newcastle's midfielders a bit better.

Sometimes I think he's better than Mainoo.

Mainoo play revolves around receiving the pass and passing it to the nearest safest player.

Ugarte does exactly the same thing but is more anxious so passes backwards more than Mainoo.

On the otherside Ugarte is everywhere on the pitch which is both a positive and a negative as we can lose our team shape as we see when we lose when he comes off the bench.

However, he is clearly a scapegoat and I think I want to see Ugarte and Casemiro as a partnership now and let Ugarte get in to players faces a bit more.

Mainoo is a good squad player, important to us as someone like Curtis Jones is to Liverpool. However, he is not a wonderkid and is not a guaranteed starter.

A decent cameo for him. Nice to know he could have some use for the rest of the season.

Ironically, it was one of his better cameos for United. Won tackles in midfield, got forward and tried to get crosses in, won corners, almost scored with a header. But I don't think he's beating the narrative around him that he's a curse!

Should have started next to Case. As a pair they worked well in the home game against a better Newcastle midfield and 11 players.

He actually did quite well, there was some one moment when Gordon was running with ball and he was able to sprint and win the ball back. Casemiro or Mainoo wouldn’t have even got close to Gordon. We need someone who can do that but they need to be a lot better on the ball than Ugarte.

Thought he contributed well when he came on next to Mainoo but the benefits disappeared when the substitution (necessary) happened.

I liked what saw in his game today, hopefully he can build on it

I would play him next to Casemiro for the next few games. Should help protecting the back 4 and help us getting over the line.
In the summer the midfield anyway has to be built from scratch so long term vision is not a priority right now.

Actually a good point -- as someone who doesn't rate him at all, I'd like to see what he could do starting beside Casemiro rather than being his replacement.

You never know. A few games left to try that out. The problem is mostly that Casemiro is infinitely better than either Ugarte or Maino, but if you only ever give Ugarte a replacement role for Casemiro after 60 mins or so it's hard to know if he has anything, at all, to for instance partner with him from the off (under Carrick). It might even work. Worst case scenario, you swap him back out with Maino at half time.

Did well when he came on. Don’t really understand why people are using his cameo last night as a stick to hit him with. I suppose people need to vent for what was a massively disappointing team performance.

Carrick has an obvious choice to start him alongside Casemiro against Villa. I don't know if this is going to work, but if we keep the same midfield we get the same result of chasing shadows in Central areas.

It's an unpopular choice though, so very interesting how this plays out.

I didn’t see what he did wrong it’s just when Casemiro we just seem to fall apart at times.

When he and Mainoo are competing for a place then it’s obvious how we struggle.
Both are massively insufficient at this level. I’d say Ugarte is more mobile but there’s just something not quite there - the energy he shown when he first arrived has completely gone. He’s doesn’t play many minutes but he’s no longer the yellow card machine he was.
It’s a shame because he have seen the Ugarte that could walk into this midfield right now and hold down a place.
I’m amazed we are 3rd with the central midfield options we have.

Absolutely pointless footballer.

Offers nothing.

Licha is ten times the midfielder Ugarte is, and he's not even a midfielder!!

Licha is 10x all our CMs except that he doesn’t have the fitness. Trial was due two seasons ago to push him to midfield but two lengthy injuries I think put this plan on hold forever. He may play as cdm in a different league but not epl.

He didn't play poorly at all. He's just the whipping boy at the moment
He really is. I'm an Manuel apologist. There's a version of our schedule where he's a good contributer. Yes we overpaid, but he has a set of skills not found elsewhere in our team.

Agreed, it just shows we have no CM other than Case
Have to bear in mind Case also creates some issues for his CM partner, hence why he's only good in a more defensive setup. The way we played yesterday was odd, it seemed like Bruno had been instructed to play incredibly high and we were supposedly ok with allowing Newcastle to run the midfield. The sad truth is for a more modern midfield we actually don't have a single CM who is currently good enough, at least with Mainoo there's a good argument to say he could be given his age.

It is weird that even though he doesn't do something horrific all the time, he just comes on as a sub and a bad result happens. He needs a voodoo doctor or something to lift the curse.

He's not at level required to play for Manchester United(where we would like to be one day, at least), and his transfer was a mistake considering the money involved. But, our fanbase(at least from what I see on this forum) tends to be a little bit too harsh on him, I think.

At least he offers some energy, grit to our midfield. Reminds me of Fred.

Bournemouth 2:2 Man Utd New
The double whammy of getting a man sent off then immediately going down to 9 men too
