Yup, doesn't happen. Some players do okay. We've had a few go over to Italy and do decently, but not really 'tearing it up'.

None of them are going to better teams and performing.

McTominay surely is, chance of his first title of his career this season and very much a key man for them.

Understandably so, since they're not the ones paying him 300 thousand grand p/w. Pay up 40 million for him, make him their highest earner, and let's talk about it a year from now.
They’re paying him up to 85% of his wages depending on how their season goes

Villa are still in 3 competitions so plenty of games and minutes to come for him. Just need him to be at least decent and a club comes in for him in summer, doesn't have to be Villa.

They're paying well over £200 k per week towards his wage, so the fans clearly need to see some value for that outlay.

Fair enough. For some reason, i was under the impression that we were covering a significant part of his wages.

I would still take this early evaluations from AV fans with a pinch of salt. Their team is on the up and up, they're with one foot and a half in the quarter-finals of the CL, and now they can get some "big" names to join them. I can't blame them, either, this place could also use a bit of optimism.

Anyway, let's see how he does there. I'm afraid though that Rashford accepting a pay cut would be pivotal for both us and him to finally "move on".

They’ve won most their games since signing him so they won’t be complaining. Not saying he’s the reason.

If Villa weren’t going well their forum would be a different place .

The argument that ex United players will somehow do better outside the toxic United environment almost never translates into reality, but it's constantly used. Can't think of s single player across the past decade that's teared shit up after leaving us. Wouldn't even count Ronaldo because of the league he moved to.
I ageee with you for the most part, but surely Ronaldo must be counted! It’s not just his performances in La Liga (which more than justify his greatness,) but also his CL achievements.

Was referring to Ronaldo's return to United and within the past decade, not the original RM move.

The post says past decade, Ronaldo moved to Madrid in 2009.

zero in eight at villa now. showing us what we're missing

How many assists has he got for them so far? It'd be interesting to see how he, Sancho and Antony stack up in terms of G+A stats at the end of the season. Don't think many would have had Antony down as the winner on this one but he probably might win it.

3 so far (plus a free kick that crashed off the bar for a tap in). It’s interesting to see how Emery has used both Rashford and Asensio. They’ve reinvigorated Villa’s season but he’s not overplaying them so far. He’s creating a lot of competition for places and keeping the team fresh.

Yeah but they're not playing every minute of every game so they've been busts clearly.

Not sure we should be celebrating his failures if we want Villa to actually sign the guy

In hindsight, Asencio would have been a great option for us on loan in Jan. Regardless of Amad’s injury he would have provided a goal threat from the AM position, and allowed us to play Amad more at RWB where IMO he excelled more.

People did, but more in hope than expectation.

He's done, no interest in the game.

He relied on pace to get into positions and skip past players. Pace has gone, he’s been exposed at top level. He had that one ridiculous season where he was confident and everything was going in, but that patch has passed.

Mbappe who relies on pace had a quiet patch where defenders adjusted to him. Fair play to Mbappe who looks like he’s adjusting to this scoring again, Rashford hasn’t and never will.

32 appearances this season and he has completed 90 minutes a grand total of 4 times with 2 of those being in the first 3 games of the season.

I'm sticking with my assertion that he is physically finished.
Anderson levels of fitness.

It might be the case that a player who scored so many goals for us isn't as shit as many in here want to make you believe.

So long against a 10 man side I'm sure he was quality without having to worry about any defensive work. His dream day

Make that 4 assists with tonight I believe, no goals so far but doing pretty well.

I'm very curious to see how well all our loaned players do at the end of the season and to see if they've performed dramatically better than their level here, at least in terms of goals and assists. I'm just not seeing it whatsoever with Sancho, but we'll see about Rashford and Antony.

As long as they’re happy to have someone that isn’t him scoring the goals, happy days. That’ll be 40m please Unai.

I mean we have all watched him the last few years. He’s shit. Hope he still gets loads of assists though for them.

One game doesn't define a player.

He was incredibly shite for two seasons straight and struggled to find consistent form. That's without his terrible workmate off the ball, which is basically non existent.

Or it may be that he's a streaky player that can be decent when he's arsed, the wind is blowing the right way and Jupiter is in retrograde

Nice, nothing but happy for him. Still think, we would have kept him if he was on a reasonable wages. 350k isn't worth it.

Hope he has a stormer and someone buys him .

The player who scored “so many” goals (7 in 33 league games last season) for us has scored precisely zero out of the fifteen goals scored by Aston Villa since he joined them. And currently isn’t even starting for them in the PL. I’d say you’re being a little hasty to be making an I told you so post.

He’ll be back next season

No way he’s going to accept over 100k+ a week less somewhere else on a permanent deal when he has his whole family to feed. And I don’t think United will loan him again without his wages completely covered.

I think so too. I imagine they’ll think he’s a decent option, but not worth the fee or wages.

How many out of the 15 did he directly assist or play a huge part in creating? Turns out that he can also do that as well, not just a run in behind merchant as some would have you believe. I'd definitely class 130+ goals as "so many".

Also wailing on Rashford for not performing last year when it was a car crash of a season for the entire club seems dishonest. Worst ever finish in the PL, Ten Hag barely hanging onto his job, getting outplayed/out coached almost every single game but Rashford has to rise above all that and deliver the goods. Nevermind the manager's suicidal tactics, or that all around him his teammates are imploding around him. Sometimes when this fanbase criticizes players an unknowing person could easily be tricked into thinking they're just utter shit in an otherwise decent team and they really must be that bad. The truth is that we've been terrible for 90% of the time post fergie.

TBF when he's not depressed he's very often been brilliant against lower level opposition. Especially them having a man down. Hes a good player, but from what I've seen at Villa I don't think he has it in him to reach the levels he had between 2019-2023.
