Marcus Rashford | 2026/27 Performances

Leopards and spots springs to mind. He has failed to impress with attitude, skill or endeavour and is only back at Old Trafford because Barcelona gave him a big no thank you.

Fab Rom said he has #14. I don't think we have announced that yet(unless I missed it). We have been announcing numbers for new signings and number changes.
Rashford is in squad for the Milan game. I guess we will find out if 14 is his new number or not.
I did think they will wait for Zee to leave so that Rash could take 11.

Would he even consider coming back if we weren't in CL?
He left when we were 10th and comes back when we are in the CL, in between he played for 2 teams competing in CL football. Fair play to him I mean that is some serious piss take.

Can't wait to see him run straight into the fullback, lose the ball, and slowly turn his head to watch the other team break before he jogs disinterested towards the halfway line.

He was no 14 at Barca, which may have been the reason he took the 14 shirt here.

Pretty sure this was announced previously

He was frustrating, especially with his work rate, but yikes, some of these replies.

I never expected INEOS to bolster the attack, so keeping Rashy becomes a decent option. He definitely won’t be a starter, but I think he can be a solid option off the bench. If he can play super-sub and eventually fight his way into the XI, great! If not, we’ll run down his contract and get his wages off the books.

Hope he does well. He comes back into a much better environment, and I’m hoping Carrick can get the best out of him.

Not good enough to be given no defensive duties but entitled enough to think he is

Looked sharp. Strange that It feels like he never left us.

Looked sharp enough today , could force his way into the team yet as others are not really locking down places.

We all know what we’re going to get from him. If he’s here for the season it’s going to be more of the same. So we have to get used to that. I guess we just have to hope he hits on of his occasional hot streaks in front of goal this season. Because, if not…

That LW spot is basically his.....if he wants it. He just has the best skillset out of all our options, just a good specialist winger unlike the others. If we're going to do well this season he'll need to adapt to playing with Sesko quickly. He was okay today but was off the pace a bit, not surprising as these were his first minutes post world cup.

How do these streaks of form compare to other left wingers - say Diaz when he was in the premier league? I haven’t checked but my own impression is that Rashford tends to score and assist regularly across the entirety of seasons or at least be no more “streaky” than most wingers. If anything, a criticism is that he rarely scores 2 or 3 in the same match or stat pads against the lesser teams.

Look at the “goals for” tally in his PL statistics. You’ll see what I’m getting at.

It you want to you can compare the consistency of his goalscoring output with legitimately world class wide attackers like Salah, Son or Mané.

If he doesn't learn or accept to track back this will not be enough. You saw today what happens when you leave Luke Shaw on your own.

He has the skill set but not the mind set
He’s too selfish to play there, very rarely does he take his man on to set someone up

What happened today had very little to do with Rashford. From the first half the flaws in our shape were apparent with Shaw holding hands with whoever our LCB and leaving our flank wide open. It happened even with Rashford on the bench with Dorgu on the pitch, Shaw was poor and did very little to stop Chukwueze. We were too compact and Milan has pacy wingbacks who were quickly able to exploit it.

Where does Cunha fit in a Rashford LW scenario though?
Rotating with Sesko up front?
Or a dangerous return to the 2 attacking central mids approach that Ten Hag realised wouldn't work about 3 games in?

Whoever is better between Cunha or Rashford will play. The only nailed down spots are Lammens and Bruno.

Think it will be, and it should be unless one of them separate from the bunch based off of last season Cunha, Dorgu then Rashford in that order. Tough pill to swallow being it's a massive wage behind maybe 2 players but at least for the 1st few games we'll have the valid reason of not being match sharp due to lack of preseason.

Hopefully the pecking order sorts itself out by one of them being a stand out in that position or they push each other and it's a nice problem to have. Shame he's not a LB we've brought back into the fold because Shaw is going to be a problem this season.

Unplayable on the wings cause he just doesn't offer much defensively. Backup ST earning ridiculous wages. Should sit on the bench until someone offers him a loan or in case we have injuries.

Cunha will be fuming if rashford comes back and takes his spot and rightly so

Bruno will need to be rotated more this season as well. He will be 32 shortly and we can’t have him playing 50/60 games without a break anymore. Cunha can therefore play a fair number of games as a 10.

Mixed performance from him but more good than bad and also have to consider his first minutes in a while. He'll get lots of opportunities for minutes for sure.

The thing is with the CL and the cups we actually need a backup LW who can score and take some of the physical load or Cunha will eventually break down. It's just his lack of effort off the ball or variety on the ball drives me insane. Imagine him with amad or cunhas mindset? He'd be one of my favourite players but he's become almost the polar opposite of that. Oh I lost the ball and the other team are now on the counter, oh well

Then he best out perform him. Not one player should be thinking there guaranteed a starting spot every week. Carrick has mentioned before that players need to fight to get into the team.

A player who can't even pretend to track back and work hard should be nowhere near the squad let alone be fighting for a starting spot

He’s had like 20 months away. He had a very good loan spell at Barcelona. If he can offer something even just by coming of the bench then we should give him a chance.

When does one run out of chances?

People who say this, act like he hasn't had numerous chances already

What happened after that so called "good" spell? Barca said nope, we would rather spend 70mn on anthony gordon than 25 on your lazy bum
