Marcus Rashford | 2026/27 Performances

Great seeing him back to this standard at United but he needs a few more games to get back to his best.

He is playing under immense pressure now as many fans were criticizing him.

Let's support our players since he is already back with us. Our job is to support them and thier job is to do the best on the pitch. Criticizing will make the matter worse, not better!

Yes it was an excellent performance, and even though he doesn't score, he didn't appear under pressure to do so either, which is a good sign imo
I predicted he would be very helpful to us this season (or half if he goes at the half). The haters couldn’t fathom it but, yeah

If he keeps playing like that then it's good with me. Hard working, more incisive and carrying a threat.

I was one of those who wanted Rashford out and have been dubious about him reintegrating into the team, but once the season started, I was prepared to see if he’s turned his head around and gained some much needed mental strength and determination.
I don’t think I’m the only one who believed his poor mentally was at the core of his previous decline here.

On yesterday’s showing, apart from losing the ball a few times, he looked very good for most of the time he was on the pitch and Carrick gave him well earned and much needed praise as he came off.
A shame he couldn’t top his performance with a goal, particularly from that dribble through the Ipswich defence.
Tracking back and actually tackling and winning back the ball (wtf?) was a very positive sign, as to whether or not Marcus is going to commit himself to being a success at Utd again.
He has a mountain to climb, but the first few steps are looking good atm.

.

7/10 from me. Encouraging performance. Deserved a goal I felt.
Do you think the club will be happy to have not let him go so cheaply early in the window now?

When you look how fees have exploded and how much it would have cost to replace him in the squad it feels like we would have looked stupid at this point.

Perhaps Barca have saved us!

everything I read was that the 25m was for Barcelona only in a special deal. It’s 40m for everyone else. Which I think is fair considering his salary

Getting more out of him than I was expecting. But then again, he was always a good player, it's just a matter of whether he applies himself or not. If he does then it will almost be like a new signing. I don't expect him to be amazing or anything but we do need a player in his position right now.

If he can chip in with 10+ G/A this season then that would be pretty decent. Bruno is going to have another quality season. Don’t think he ever as a bad one with numbers.

Which supports my point, as we’re a pretty tough crowd here on our players.
Maybe, maybe not. Bruno gets more sick than anyone on this forum and his rating was 9.1.

If players put in 9 out of 10 performances they'll get 9 out of 10 ratings.

Marcus was a decent 6-7/10 yesterday, let's not gas it up to be any better than that.

Hopefully the first of many good games. His explosiveness and acceleration is something we've needed a bit. Gives us something different.

I think you're right in terms of overall performance. But if you look at the specific things you want from a player in his position, chances created and making dangerous runs you should be able to see why people are encouraged more than a 6.9/7 rating. He made plenty of dangerous runs and he's created plenty of chances

I would rank the greatness of our players yesterday in this order:

Mainoo
Bruno
Rashford
Maguire
Lammens
Cunha
Martinez

And then after that it drops off a bit and I need not go any further anyway.

"Decent" underrates Rashford. He was a constant menace, a toenail away from a goal on one occasion and an Mbeumo miscue away from a fantastic assist (I distinguish assists between fantastic and the ordinary), but neither came off and thus the stat sheet indicates no goal contributions.

But I would encourage you to look beyond the stat sheet and take into account the entirety of the game. All the drama and weight on his shoulders, which perhaps you'll dismiss as irrelevant, but when he took the pitch he went right at his defender and also put in a proper defensive shift as well. There was one take-on that ended with a clean strip but apart from that he got stuck in. Keep in mind that Rashford didn't get any help from Shaw, who simply can't support his forward the way Dalot can support his forward. It was all on him to carry the attack on the left and he did job quite well, hopefully putting an end to the nonsense I had been reading here over the previous two weeks that Dorgu is the clearly superior choice at LW.

As in 10 total? He can definitely do that. He's someone whose best asset is his goals and assists. He could reach 10 whilst playing really quite badly.

I think we can set expectations higher. If no more attackers come in then he will probably play some part in the vast majority of games. Maybe 45 appearances.

If he actually plays well I think he could get 25 total. Playing 'pretty decent' I reckon 15 easy.

I meant like each.. so 20+ goal involvements. He should have had an assists yesterday but Mbeumo missed that sitter and hit the bar.

Fair enough.

I think it was an awkward one for Mbeumo, it came so quick he couldn't adjust his body. But it was great work from Rashford.

Rashford will be up and down as he always has been but he’s a good option in the squad and can cover multiple positions to a good level.

If he can keep creating chances and get a good number of assists that will obviously help us a lot as we can’t keep relying on Bruno only for them.

One swallow never made a spring and all that but I was very encouraged by what he delivered yesterday and it goes without saying that the tracking back and the slide tackle were the standouts. The crossing and goal threat are always going to be there but the defensive side of the role is the part we simply cannot live without, especially given how fragile our back 4 can look. If he keeps this intensity all season I will be firmly on his side.

Out of interest, why did you rate Maguire so highly? I thought he was fine but below Licha and Lammens certainly

He was good enough to kill the debate as to whether our current priority should be a left forward or a left back. Not that it seems to matter with the transfer window closure coming up fast. Bollocks. Maybe January.

He was decent but people are going overboard. There was a lot of the old sloppy classic Rashford stuff.

I'm not a big fan but I think he genuinely improved as the match went on. I actually let out a big cheer when he tackled the RW in the second half, it was great to see. He can do this. He doesn't have to start every game, the pressure is off him to carry the attack alone. I hope he starts enjoying himself again and working hard tracking back. He'll bring his marker with him and leave space behind he or others can run into. Just staying up with a player constantly on him and about 10 yards of space ahead wasn't working for him the last time he was here. He's not good at holding the ball up either.

Hoping for more of the same in the next game. He deserves to keep his place. I will personally try and show some patience with him and to be as objective as possible

feel like when he was in space he did some good things. Any time he had to go 1v1 out wide and create that space seemed to struggle again. Had a nice moment in the box going thru a couple of players though that wouldve been a great goal had it come off.

It's funny how he now has the reputation of someone who doesn't track back. While it is true, it's the complete opposite of how he was when he broke into the team as a teenager. He was almost Tevez like in how he'd chase the ball to win it back, both him and Lingard and it's funny how that changed over time.

On him and his performance, it's now certain we're keeping him so we have to support him. I think the competition we have in the squad will motivate him to earn and keep a place. I think unlike when he was last here, he can see the players he's competing with are of similar quality so he needs to be locked in to get the minutes he wants. I also imagine the whole Barca and Gordon thing has put a chip on his shoulder.

One thing he brings that super important is crossing ability. I'm hoping Sesko can score of a few of those.

I thought overall, putting aside the question of the goal, that Maguire put in a very solid shift. Nothing that would put prime Baresi to shame, but very solid. And then there was the goal, which will be debated for some time, but the important point is that Harry took responsibility in an attacking position and put Ipswich under pressure to contain him, even if the goal itself was correctly deemed to be an own goal. The rule itself regarding hand/ball contact of any kind in the phase of play that leads to a goal thus disallowing a goal, but the goal being allowed if it's ruled an own goal is daft all the way around and I'm not going to hold that against Harry. On and off the ball he was our best defender (with all due respect to Lisandro, Harry was better on the day...across different outlets Maguire was rated higher than Martinez) and had a hand in, so to speak, was gave United the lead and from there the dam broke and we won the game 5-2.

He didn't seem completely half-arsed, which is a great start. We know he can play ball, that was never the issue.

Thought he was okay. Defensively mostly good but let’s see how long it lasts. Going forwards, he had some decent moments but he, like he used to, still more often than not just dribbles straight into an opponent.

I think he could make a very good super sub when the game is stretched against tired legs but he can’t be starting for us week in week out.
Pretty sure that only happened one time. Every other time he either played a pass or got past the defender?

6.8 is a fair reflection of his performance today. Did ok, worked hard. Should have got an assist when Mbeumo missed that sitter. Almost scored a couple himself.

Now that he's back in the squad, if he shows a good attitude we can certainly use him this season. The good thing is that he can now be subbed or rotated as necessary if his performances are sub-standard, unlike the Ten Hag years where he played practically every minute no matter how badly he played.
Yeah I'd rate it a 7/10 performance.

And yeah he should have been able to be benched more then but that was as a result of under par squads.
