Marcus Rashford | 2026/27 Performances

"Nope" what?

Whether his best season was 19/20, 20/21 or 22/23 is splitting hairs, irrelevant to the point that he's had poor seasons under multiple managers.

He was poor in 21/22 under Ole and Rangnick, poor in 23/24 under Ten Hag, poor in 24/25 under Amorim such that he ended up loaned out in Jan. This is just undeniable truth.
In short - he was terrible when the team and management was dysfunctional. Thanks for proving my point.

Of course sell if a huge offer comes in, but once that dream is unrealized integrating him back into the squad would actually suit us during this transition as we clear the path for JJ Gabriel in a few seasons as Marcus runs down his glorious contract.

It’s very possible he could be useful this season. A lot of people have spelt out plausible scenarios where his skills set could benefit us.

I just don’t see how you can reincorporate a player that clearly feels effort is something he gives on a discretionary basis

He was a big part of that reason though. You talk as though he’s been dragged down by others. His effort levels and attitude were the worst of the lot. And he’s supposed to be a local lad that lives there club…he’s absolutely pathetic.

I suspect that was a big reason for it too. He looked depressed, which mirrored how I felt about the club so I kinda empathized.

Talk about plunging the standards of Manchester United into the toilet bowl, and stand there proudly expressing how perfectly acceptable you find that to be.

I honestly don’t know what football club people who share your opinion think they support? How on earth have we gone from the standards set by the likes of Ferguson and Busby, to a fan base being perfectly fine if a player just can’t be arsed because they “empathise”

It is as if we are talking about understanding why a kid on minimum wage isn’t motivated for his Saturday shift at Home Bargains. When did we become a football club with, or indeed fans, with standards this low?

Giving all for this football club should be the absolute minimum expectation, not an ambition dependent on whether or not you’re feeling up to it. The player and his apologists need to be absolutely nowhere near.

If he gets reintegrated, he still won't press, which will lead to fans getting on his back and him losing his place. We'll then get drip fed 'Marcus is bemused/baffled/hurt' newspapers for a few months and loan him out in January. He'd also be one of the highest paid and least hard working in the squad, which can't be good for morale/setting a good example for younger players.

Let's rip the bandage off this summer, and move forward with a united group, even if it means giving a few more minutes to someone like Thompson, or playing Mount out wide.

Worse is if he actually plays and score or assist... His supporter will repeat the whole cycle of told you so

If he stinks the place out it'll be try him on 9/10/SS all over again.

Neverlearn United. This is him "turning a new place" for the nth time. Wasnt his first.

He won't start.

We've got a couple of options now for that left side, both in front of him.

He can be used for what he's good at. Last 30 mins against tired legs. The pressing thing is less of an issue in that scenario.

Some of you seem like you scratch the keys out of your keyboards when you type. If he comes back I don't see these worse case scenarios happening at all. I see someone:
Playing a bit part role and fading out over the season - no boats rocked
A player having an unexpected impact - bonus
A player that's checked out and doesn't end up playing - no boats rocked other than by media and social attempting to whip fans up.

None of these is a madness, the third is a minor discomfort at best, unless you're one of those that revels in it... High sodium leads to high blood pressure.

Reincorporating him is the much better option right now than the whole "bomb squad" fiasco. Doesn't do anything other than make the player "unsellable".

Yup, agree with this. Last time around he was the "main" option. Now, the onus is on him. If he works out, good for him and us, if he doesn't that's only bad for him as we have multiple options in that position.

You never know, few bright performances in pre-season, might even get a deadline day bid.

Yeah god forbid he scores for us. Honestly have to wonder about United fans.

A guy came through the academy and has scored almost 150 goals and played over 400 games but hes hated.

The harsh reality is when you see Somerville or Raphael Leao going for £70m and they would still want £200k per week, Rashford not being able to be sold means he probably stays at old Trafford for 6-12 months.

I think honesty the club knows that they have to buy a CM, Left Back and now probably a CB. They will try and move smart in the market if Zirkzee goes and try and get Mateta, Broby or Wellbeck as an alternative number 9.

I actually think he'll struggle even more if he's here after the window closes. He was binned by Barcelona for Gordon; Gordon also replaced him during the WC; nobody seems interested in him; his confidence must be shot.

Depression doesn’t care about how much money you have. And being a footballer doesn’t make you not human. If you see your club, that you’ve been a part of since childhood, being destroyed by shitty managers and owners, I could see how that would make you depressed.

I think he's surely going to realise it's largely because of his daft wages. He's not a top player, granted, but if he was on a more accessible amount then he'd do well rotating in a top team.

He scores, but at what cost? What made it worst is that the 350k / week academy player we made poster boy can't even be arsed to press

It's a team game, not pressing means the other team plays with handicapped. Knowing they have 1 men available at all time.

You're underestimating he reluctant to put on a shift.

Unless you're playing for the all conquering teams like Bayern / Barcelona, those presses matter as a team. We don't have the luxury to carry a bystander who took 10 pot cross and not pressing.

Top team won't deal with that, not to mention the moral disruption knowing "Rashford don't need to press because he don't like them"

As shown Barcelona spent 80M on Gordon, a player many scoffed beneath Rashford, but their fans didn't complain, they didn't even entertain him at knocked off cost. Tells you something.

We played better as a team under Carrick, wonder why

The excuses this lad gets for his crap effort levels is astonishing.
He's an asset we have tried - very hard - to shift without joy. There is clearly an issue with wages, it's not the fee, and we have no control over Rashford's agent. Therefore we accept it for what it is, he's a good offensive LW and some depth for CF, to say otherwise is just not objective - and it allows for a bit of a stop gap this season in order to spend elsewhere.

Cunha, Dorgu, Rashford is really good depth at LW. The reality is if he's a sub/not playing he'll likely become more amenable to a move elsewhere and if he does well, then he can be useful as we seek back to back CL finishes. Selling or keeping him is really minor at this point.

In theory, with Bruno and Tielemans both having the capability to find a long range quality pass, if we play Rashford on the shoulders of the defenders there is high chance we could find joy especially on the counter. Though the prospect of him getting 350k a week is quite grating, especially when his absence contributed to us achieving CL. Ideally someone pays a fee and takes his away, if not, do NOT loan him and make use of whatever he can offer.

Except for Bruno, I didnt see any Saudi or other clubs chasing our players..which is a bit shame...

Summerville for 80M wow...hope we can sell few deals like that from the pool of Rashford/Mason/Zirkzee/Lisandro/Deligt or even 100M for Amad

He was also awful under Ole and Rangnick in 21/22 before Ten Hag arrived.

His best season of his career also came under Ten Hag.

At some point the player has to take responsibility.
Do you think the structure we played in ETH’s first season was anything like his second? I don’t recall the donut midfield being a feature in season 1. We also purchased Hojlund, who is just a fundamentally bad player and the worst possible type of CF to partner Rashford, and played without a genuine left back all season.

Whilst Rashford definitely takes responsibility as he didn’t play well at all for a large chunk of that season (still good in our FA Cup title run though), we couldn’t have set up more for him to fail.

The reality is that all the evidence is that if you stick Rashford in a functional team he will score and create goals at the highest level. If all around him is a complete mess, he won’t raise you consistently from the mire.

So where is his accountability? He’s one of the highest paid players at the club, yet we’re happy accepting that if everyone else is playing well he’ll contribute, but not to look to him to be a senior member of the team to help pull the team out of a dearth?

The ability to look good when all around you are playing well is a commodity you can get for a lot less than £200k a week

Says it all if Aston Villa prefers Garnacho to Rashford and Barca rather spends 70m on Gordon. Cant believe so many would take Marcus back after all we have seen

They have to want to go there. Summerville is going there from a relegated West Ham. It's a much bigger drop to go to SA from Man Utd, especially when those players are all on good money

Do you know he was suffering from a serious mental health condition or are you exploiting it to further your counterfactual argument?

Whilst I do think he’s closer to average than good, it’s his mental wages that are the stumbling block.

Even though players are going for £117m or whatever, none are on the insane wages Marcus is on (as far as I’m aware).

Which matters, because he immediately upsets a club’s wage structure as a result. So not really surprising clubs aren’t rushing to snap him up, because he is categorically not a bargain.

Summarised pretty well yeah.

It's not like we haven't tried to shift him, the wages are just obscene but that has already been signed, nothing we can do about it now. It seems like we can't afford a new attacker without getting a reasonable fee for him so if no one is offering then we have no choice. We don't have enough attacking players for a full season in Europe and he is still a useful football player.

Some people just need to accept that we will have to make nice for a year and if they want to blame anyone then blame whoever put him on that massive contract years ago.

Make the best of a less than ideal situation.

If Zirskee is our 2nd striker, I want Rashford to stay. Give him another chance, so many different players around him, we're in lots of competitions with a thin squad. Showed at Barca that he can be useful in that role.

In case we say we dont want you and another club wants him for less wages, I dont understand why he would not accept that

Maybe Barca, but even then the wages must have played a big part, but you can't level Villa thinking Garnacho is better at Rashford.

The current dealings between Chelsea and Villa stink.

Feck Rashford and his restart he walked on teh pitch for 2-3 seasons for us, didnt give a feck in Barcelona either too. He should be sold/laoned out. He will not want to play from the bench I assume will be a useless option from the bench, the moment he keeps coming form the bench he will down his tools even more. Dont tell me there is not a club for which hes willing to start and get his salary down a bit rather than play second fiddle here. He's not good enough even from the bench. he's just lazy entitled player.

Not sure i agree that selling or keeping him is really minor, as clearing his wages would make room for decent investments. He’s an extremely expensive player to have as a sub/not playing and his contract doesn’t expire until 28.

No one knows what the outcome of the season will be, maybe he’ll have a brilliant season and outperform Cunha, maybe it will be meh, maybe it’ll be shit. I don’t think it changes the fact that the scenario right now is that neither Rashford or the club is very happy about the outcome, Rashford would’ve preferred to make the move to Barcelona permanent and so would we.

His wages for the upcoming season are about 15m no?

Obscene wages for sure but not enough that we can use it to bring in a new winger who's any good.

I suppose the only way you could do it is if you sign someone who's on 100k a week and you can agree a deal of around 40m that the selling club let's us spread over 5 installments.

(if my maths is right which can be questionable!)

Then you need to find a club who are going to take on Rashford's full wages that he wants to sign for.

Feels like a big chunk of work to get done but not impossible. I'm sure the club are looking at every possibility.

We don't know what he's actually on without incentives but in the grand scheme of the ludicrous world of football money, him having a book value of like £30m isn't that big a deal (and that is taking the top top estimate of his weekly wage, which is likely much lower). I get it's still money that can go to use elsewhere, but it's not like he's not a football player who can play for us.

Hoping the improved attitude/mentality and improved quality in squad might motivate him. Removal of likes of jadon etc might mean a better marcus. If he leaves thats ok,but if he stays these factors might be beneficial to him and us

The thought of Rashford coming back and being re-integrated is genuinely depressing and such a downer after so many positives last season. He walks back into the dressing room as the highest paid player too with a track record of not giving a shit when he feels like it. Please get rid at a cut price sale if needed.
