Marcus Rashford | 2026/27 Performances

We don't know what he's actually on without incentives but in the grand scheme of the ludicrous world of football money, him having a book value of like £30m isn't that big a deal (and that is taking the top top estimate of his weekly wage, which is likely much lower). I get it's still money that can go to use elsewhere, but it's not like he's not a football player who can play for us.

Doesn’t take into account the positive impact of a £30-40mill fee on top of that.

Theory and practice. He’s obviously got qualities that can be crucial for us in the next few seasons, but we’re still talking about a player that we’ve tried getting rid of for the better part of 1,5 years now, someone who would’ve preferred to stay at Barcelona rather than return this summer. It is what it is, and it’s difficult to predict how it turns out. The most likely outcome is that he stays, as there’s no european top clubs willing to pay the fee we want and the wages he wants, so all we can do is hope that he performs well for us.

For me personally the only downside is that no matter how well he plays, if we do play him, he's not going to be worth the wages. Because we gave him too much. I'd be more than happy if he came back and was scoring and creating plenty of goals for us otherwise. It'd be a bit like Casemiro last season. He was great but we're still glad to get his wages off the books instead of another year.

So yeah I'll judge him 95% on how he performs and come at it from a positive point of view. But if he struggles... Theres lots of ammunition for the critics

We tried to get rid of other players and had them go back into the team before.... Usually after a change of manager. Not sure it's as big of a deal as many on here seem to think

I think it has been said multiple times here but if he’s reintegrated then we will have a dressing room vying for those wages.

We have to get rid of him.

The wages argument seems so daft to me. Mason Mount is on a similarly insane wage and is never fit, why hasn’t that caused the same issue? It’s £250k va £325k.

I don't think so, I think the dressing room will see a difference between a legacy wage versus someone coming in brand new on ridiculous wages.

Nobody is kicking off that Mason Mount is like, the third highest paid member of the squad - as an example

More than wages, I would be worried about his seemingly negative presence in the team.

personally I dont really care what they are being paid, as long as they are out there doing their job and at least attempting to bust a gut and put in a shift. Its the other stuff bothers me..

As for players, they may well get their back up if he comes back, and has the same application/attitude as before, and they are fully aware how much he is getting paid for that.

Mason Mount is on stupid money, def not worth it for the return. But in fairness to him, he does work hard when he's actually on (not that that would justify the ££). But to the other players that will matter.

It would only be an issue if he got another contract on similar wages, which he won’t.
A contract from over 3 years ago under a different manager and hierarchy really shouldn’t be an issue.

More than wages, I would be worried about his seemingly negative presence in the team.
Would that be a thing?
He’s not been a United player for awhile now, and he wasn’t in a “main man” role in either Villa or Barcelona, I don’t see him being an issue around the place.
There will be some media attention but the media will always find something to say about United, its a given with being one of the biggest clubs on the planet.
There’s difference standards for United because of that.

I don’t see much reason why Carrick or the players will let it get to them or affect what happens on the pitch.

Well we have a good sense that Sancho and Rashford were badly affecting the morale of the team towards the end and also creating camps in the team ( I don't remember what was said publically vs strong media rumours but that's my impression). We don't want that to start happening again.

The discussions on here next Summer are gunna be really interesting to observe after he's had a season back at the club and has more than 20 goal contributions across all comps.

It will be a major mistake on Carrick's part if he will reintegrate Rashford into the group. He doesn't have the work-rate to be the starter nor the mentality and personality to stay happy being an impact sub.

Not if he continues being the laziest player in the side earning the most.

I agree, if you took away the wages, I'd rather have Rashford than Mount

Wonder how Rashford feels that Barcelona passed up the opportunity to sign him.

wonder will this be an eye opener for him.

Wonder if Carrick could get him to work hard for the team.

Wonder if a Villa or Newcastle fancied dropping 40 or 50m on him.

lots of unanswered questions about the situation. You trust the club will make the right ones. On paper he's a much better backup to Sesko than Zirkzee who's fitness is in question.

if we did manage to sell him I wonder who we could bring in?

if he stays for another year we'd need to see a player with no ego, ready to work for the team and follow manager instructions. I hope he is up for it.

if he has a decent/good season he'll still be worth 40/50m with a year left

Not with the wages he is on. The issue has never been the fee, it is taking on his wages and Rashford, rightly, will want a long term deal at as close to possible 300k a week. No club will sanction that madness especially at his age.

wouldn't be the first time we subsidised a move though.

2 years left - the club could give him a golden goodbye if both parties were happy to say see ya

How is it we always have the players with the morals to not want to move to Saudi yet still want massive fecking wages.

He'll want a long deal at another club with wages nearly matching what we are paying him. Yes, we could subsidise a portion, but what happens when the 2 years are up?

I am resigned to the idea that he is staying with us for this season and we will start to see him decline like a lot of wingers when they approach their 30s. Hopefully he proves me wrong, but I think he will be a very expensive paper weight.

Why move? He is on a lot of money for 2 more years, and will probably get a big signing on fee as a free transfer when his contract ends. He and his agent are not stupid.

He will follow the same path as Sancho basically just run his contract down knowing full well he is not going to get another deal like it next.

I suspect the uncertainty about whether or not there's a transfer fee for Rashford coming in - and whether or not >£300k a week will move off the wage books - is a big reason why it's currently a bit quiet on transfers.

he will never get the kind of wage we paid him again and I'd say even Rashford would realise that. If wages are his priority he'll move to Saudi. I think Rashford still puts football first though.

depending where he goes but he'll be a top earner at his next club - his stock is still high.

If that was the case than he would have left before the World Cup. Maybe he will put football first and leave, but I am sure his agent knows that options are going to be limited with the wage demands. If I was advising him (from a finicial point of view) I would tell him to stay at United.

With Cunha taking his number 10 shirt, I wonder what number we'll give him if he was reintegrated. The only numbers between 1-19 that are free are the number 9 (surely not) and number 14 (he wore 14 at Barca, so that would make sense).

Best case scenario a Saudi club picks him up, but if there are buyers then I really can see Marcus being integrated into the squad and putting in some very decent shifts for us this season. It does him and his entourage no good whatsoever to down his tools again because he's not playing for a glam club in the Mediterranean.

It’s not only him that we have to reintegrate back into the fold, we’re discounting the photographer he employs to take photos of him when training by himself. Do we have to factor in his wages too?

How much does the club still owe on his contract? Maybe just letting him go for free so whoever he goes to can pay a high wage but at the same time, we save what is owed to him for the next few years.

That maybe a stupid idea. I'm not good with numbers and how contracts work but it sounds like a no brainer so I imagine it couldn't be that easy?

I think the team as a whole needs to move on from Rashford and his era at the club. We seem to have moved on as a team and are now more of an actual team, where everyone is working towards the same target. Before it was a team of individuals and barely any chemistry and more cliques within the squad.

If he could come back in and integrate within the squad then maybe but I don't see that happening unfortunately. He can be a very good player when he wants to be so I understand people wanting him to be introduced back into the squad but ideally, he and his wages will be moved on.

My concern is his lack of tracking back will cause issues with the likes of Cunha who put in defensive duties

We have to get rid of him.
Not really, considering the situation. He's a player that the club has made very obvious that the old regime overpaid and that we would like to sell (to the extent of forcing him out of the club for the last 18 months), and they won't make that mistake again. If we actually gave him a new contract (even if it dropped him down to something like 250k) then it would do a lot more damage, but us just being handcuffed by his old deal won't really have any impact on others. Just like the likes of Mainoo and Santos weren't really impacted by Casemiro's wages.

If anything I'd be a bit more worried about the rest of the players getting annoyed at Rashford if he comes back and is lazy and poor while being on those wages, potentially causing negativity in the dressing room.

I hope the people who have been slagging him off and insulting him for years look inward and reflect now. He’s still our player and will probably be playing for us next year. Going to make people look foolish!

He's been criticsed for years for being lazy and disinterested, and is yet to make any of them look foolish. But I guess you might get lucky and be correct this time

Would you forgo a guaranteed 350k per week for the next 2 years and offered nothing?

It's a no brainer

This will only works when there's a club that would gladly paid him say 400k if he's a free agent and some signing bonus. That way they dont have to pay United a dime. But is there such a club?

You gotta to have actual interested buyer first. I'm sure bravadoes aside United would have considered any offer just to get him of the books

It’s this parallel universe whereby being unwanted by his parent club, then rejected by the club he was sent on loan to so he’s back at the parent club that still doesn’t want him, somehow represents a sort of ‘in your face’ moment for anyone that doubted him.

I don’t get it either. We’re either in for a season of

He’s always first one at training

Look he’s scored a goal - that’s never happened in football before, right?

A pundit in Sweden gave him a 7/10, so although I didn’t watch the game, you’re all wrong, he was decent

…or we’re not

Who has he made look foolish in the last 3 years (apart from his defenders)? The reason he’s still here and we’re having to put up with him is nobody wants him, even at a cut price. That’s hardly shutting up his critics.

I think carrick is keen to work with him and might see him as a back up for both cunha and sesko, but the club will still be looking at options to sell.

Don't see him as the kind of negative presence that either garnacho and Sancho were and if he were to be reintegrated, then I'm sure he'll have a solid season.

You’ve called him a bellend and a “childish shite” repeatedly. He’s then gone away, won a La Liga and coming back to your team. You’ll have to support him. Just in future - think about your conduct towards our own players.
