Marcus Rashford | 2026/27 Performances

I'd sooner see him sold with no one brought in instead than keep him around. It's not ideal to have your highest earner be the most work shy player in the side, and I don't think this is a controversial take, his out of possession work is voluntarily non-existent.
Agree. The idea his presence would be some harmless benevolence, shouldn’t go unchallenged

Do people believe that he is really being reintegrated and will play for us this season? I still sort of think that we’re just briefing that to keep his price up and that he’ll end up being sold or, more likely, out on loan again.

That said, the Athletic guys on TOTD seem to think he’s being reintegrated unless they’re just playing along to help the club.

I think it depends on what sort of reception he gets from the other players at this camp in Ireland

I think the club will still hope an offer comes in but seems they are definitely resigned to the idea of him coming back in now.

I'm surprised Arsenal aren't in for him. He'd fit in well there.
Maybe they try to sign him if the whole deal regarding Vinicius fails. Rashford is seen as alternative by clubs, turned out he was even alternative to Gordon for Barca. Squad player.

From what i gather he’s had offers from Saudi, Roma and Fenerbache. Probably others, maybe premier league.
But he seems fixed on top tier european teams - PSG or Bayern - likely as he can coast, maintain reputation. Both of which arent paying a fee and huge wages.
The hold up there is that he likely wants United to bare the brunt of it - he gets his wages paid, the club of choice - while united say thankyou for saving his wages.

The club might see it as better to have him in the squad - score a few worldies and win us a couple of games rather than let spurs or arsenal pay the same wages and get the return.

Would need to put in effort to score worldies

Its mental how he used to be clubs prodigy and managed to not only burn bridges with the club but also returned because no clubs want him despite him winning La Liga with Barca. Barca preferred to spend double on Gordon than 30 million for him.

Sickening when you think what a cracking fee we could have got from PSG before that daft contract

Will there be actual discussion on performances for the 26/27 season anytime soon? 7 pages and he hasn't even played a minute yet.

A poll would be pretty good if possible, to see whether at this stage of the window people would prefer to see him sold at £30m or actually see him stay.

Pros of staying:
- Inflated market, to replace a maverick streaky forward like for like is going to be £50m or so?
- He will probably have a point to prove, and its more apparent these days he can add value as a 'finisher', coming on at 60 mins to change a game
- His place allows us to focus more toward a LB

Cons:
- Can't be trusted to maintain form
- Wages, obviously (and perhaps thats actually the reason we cant move for a LB as easily?, if so that rules out point 3 in pros)
- If he stays we may not bother getting a back-up striker. We may not have anyway but whitwell did mention a backup striker is considered if Im not mistaken.

I am among Rashford's harshest critics as I was fed up with his lack of work ethic and frequent off pitch issues. However I am leaning toward stay given where we are. Its late in the window and he's a bit of a wildcard forward we can afford to have (Cunha, Mbeumo, Sesko, Amad is plenty of attacking cover in case he is too streaky).

There is a consideration of how easy it is to reintegrate him into the squad, we aren't familiar with the dynamics of how players like him or are fed up with him. But I think Carrick is probably the guy to handle it over anyone else we've had.

Scored 14 goals for Barcelona. He could be a very useful player for us to bring on at 60 minute mark to replace any tiring attacker or as rotation starter for some matches. He definitely has the experience though not the stamina.

He's holding up the whole transfer window, Ineos will be looking at this thinking he's the second striker/winger if they can't shift him.

His salary is insane, the club have made this mess for themselves by giving a player a salary far beyond his actual ability.

That contract was 3-4 years ago, under a different regime. Yes we are still dealing with it, but we don’t have any other option.

If INEOS are really thinking that, we’re in huge trouble as a club, because that’s just an absurd take. Why would our transfer window depend on a player who last played for the club in December 2024 and, even if he is sold, would net us £30–35m max?I’m clearly not the biggest fan of the INEOS leadership but even by their standards it would be insane to wait until the Rashford situation is resolved before doing any other business.

The whole talk about him being reintegrated into the United line-up is also a bit pointless because we, as fans, don’t know the context. Does he want to be reintegrated? Will he be willing to accept a part-time role? Does he actually want to continue his career as a professional footballer or does he just want to collect his overblown salary?

If he’s OK with being brought on for the last 30 minutes of games for most of the season, that’s one thing. If he’s not, that’s a completely different story. I guess he and Carrick need to have a face-to-face about that.

If he’s fine with a part-time role, I’d rather have him on the bench than Zirkzee, who has a mind-blowing five league goals in two seasons.

He hasnt lived up to expectations we had and is nowhere near the player we had in 2023, but he has shown in glimpses at Barca and with England he can still be valuable PL level player.

The press briefing his wages are stopping us spending money is complete BS.

Casemiro gone with his ~£300k p/w wages off the wage bill
Sancho wages are finally off the books
Bayindir/onana wages are being covered on loan
Grasping at straws but even ugarte wages are mostly covered by FIFA this season due to WC injury

We ve added Santos and Tielemans combined wont be much more than £300k but saving almost £1m a week from departures, thats at least ~£25m a year wage savings. On top of that UCL money and can funds from Hoijlund sale as well.

And they still using Rashford wages as excuse for their poor planning. You can only say Rashford staying has impacted our LW option and our pursuit of Summerville. But this doesn't affect CM, LB signings.

His salary isn’t far beyond his ability. The season he signed that contract he scored 31 goals. He’s scored over 150 goals for the club and cost the club nothing as an academy graduate.

£300k a week compared to Marmoush on 295, Havertz on 280, Jesus on 265, Grealish 300, Saka 300, Gakpo 250.

He’s had a more productive career than any of those arguably

Considering Arsenal loaned Sterling when he was well past his best, could we see something similar with them coming in for Rashford at the end of the window? If they offer to take on his wages, then Ineos might think that's better than him staying.

Fact: Marcus grew his "Guy Incognito" beard so that he could return to the squad without raising the heckles of vitriolic United fans

At this point, with very little movement in the market, it's probably best to keep him. I think it's unlikely that a good offer would be put on the table for his services.
Maybe we can get abit of the old Rashford back into form for us.

Stamina but also work ethic, determination, courage are lacking

He puts in plenty of effort when you have the ball, the concern is about his out of possession work.
He just doesn't track his fullback anymore.

Doesn't seem like a great fit for Carrick's 4-2-4 defensive setup. You can see Dorgu and Amad contributing defensively in both directions, Cunha is decent in that regard and then Mbeumo doesn't really seem to get up to much in that regard but probably still better than Rashford would be.

A team playing a lop-sided formation where the right winger is a worker who tucks in more (Madrid did it for Cristiano with Isco tucking in when Bale was injured and then again for Vini with Valverde on the right) might be the best fit for him at this point.

He's probably still good enough to be one of the best attackers in the division for a Serie A team in that role, but in the Prem he's probably a backup for a top team.

We haven't seen Dorgu at LB at all pre-season and Lacey has looked bright, so I'm guessing Rashford will end up somewhere else on deadline day.
