Marcus Rashford - Barcelona “we don’t want him” | High salt content warning

I know he's not popular and I do understand it. Still something nice about seeing a Wythenshawe lad and product of Carrington scoring a cracker in El Clasico to win a league.

What choice do you think we have really?

Do you think any club is gonna match his wages? I don’t.

I think he likely will only lower his wage demands for a permanent move to Barcelona.

I don’t see us in a good bargaining position at all. Barca will eventually get him on under 200 k /week and for something like 15m euro. Are we really going to pretend to Rashford and Barca that we’re prepared to take him and his 300k /week back? Not a chance budget cut Jim will be having any of that.
IF Rashford is keen on a move, he has to realise that no other club will pay him the same salary and be willing to drop for an offer from the club he wants to move too. If he had a proper agent that’s what they’d be advising. It’s his salary pricing him out, not the transfer fee which could be paid over 3 years

Out of curiosity, if Rashford doesn’t agree to do that, what do you think will happen next season?

Edit - if Rashford’s wages over the next 2 years are the issue, why doesn’t the club write off the £20m transfer fee completely, which would more than cover any difference in wages over that period?

No agent is advising their Client to leave almost 15-20 m unless they want to get fired because thats what Rashford would be losing if he wants to sign for Barca permanently but thing is I don't believe Barca are that keen to spend anything for Rashford .

Its sounds good in theory but I don't think it works in reality no Club is paying 300 k a week salary to Rashford even as a free agent and there is no way Rashford is leaving that much money to get a move .

Then no player would ever leave to go to the club that they want to if they don’t compromise. A player that’s on 300k per week can’t expect other clubs to pay that. He’s still in contract. So if he doesn’t want to play for United anyone and wants to play for Barcelona, but they can’t pay that salary then he has to compromise. He can’t expect to carry his salary from club to club

You know what would happen then after they sign Rashford for free? They’d then go out and buy Alvarez for 60m or something like that, making a mockery of their narrative to United

I suppose we can't really act too disgruntled if he opts to keep it then?

If barca are not willing to part with the negotiated €30m deal to buy Rashford, but are chasing another wide forward (Gordon at €80m+) then if you are the player, it speaks volumes of where they are prioritising you!

Rashford can, rightly in some fans eyes, hold us to the contract we signed him on and refuse to move elsewhere, meaning we either loan him back out or pay his wages! I'm not sure there are any plans for his reintegration into Utd squad. Barca know this and therefore also hold the cards. All of this changes the moment Rashford is willing to take a pay cut and play at another club...either of which I don't see happening. It's a sad state of affairs but both parties are equally liable here.

What were the terms of his loan? Are Barca covering full wages and if so did they pay us a loan fee? Because if they paid us no loan fee, then it is us who placed 0 value on him, based on amortisation of his contract. And no surprise then that Barca are thinking, "well if we don't sign him, they will just offer him to us for free again".

What a great loan it's been for Rashford. A lot tried to downplay his performances but he's played his part in Barcelona winning the league with absolute ease.

Just a shame his first league title wasn't with us as he's one of the few players we've had who could play for a side challenging for top titles.

Atleti will not sell Alvarez for anything less than 100m and Newcastle would demand at least 80m for Gordon, so if the news of Barca being interested in signing both of them are from credible & reliable sources, then it means they have money, or they can make sales to make room for those 2 players, so I do not believe the narrative that they can't afford 26m for Rashford, Lewa & Ter Stegen will likely leave and their massive wages will be of the books, so is some other fringe players, so they can afford to give Rashford a good salary, so if they aren't willing to do that then it means they think Rashford is not good enough for them even for such low fee.

No loan fee, they cover his full salary and can take him permanently for 26m.

Edit: Rashford Salary is approximately €18m, and they paid that in full, so the club didn't place 0 value on him

I think his importance has been talked up if anything. He's done ok but not been spectacular and they probably would have won without him. La liga is pretty open and the standard falls away quite quickly towards the bottom. He's always had a decent freekick in him like last night but if he had been that good Barca would pay the very modest transfer fee he's available for.

They know he's not been that great, he's been fine there. I am sure he's enjoyed it a lot, feels like he's hardly been talked about which must be nice for him. Definitely a good move for him, don't want him back so I really hope they buy him.

Ironically, he is the type of player we need. The pace, agility, etc. He is such a talented player. Would love for him to stay. Lets see how it plays out.

Nicky Butt has had some things to say about United youth players having bad attitude and it’s something I’ve been saying for a long time. The only bit I disagree on is he falls short of mentioning Rashford and Mainoo in his list of players. I don’t want Rashford anywhere near this team ever again, and the club need to keep Kobbie on a short leash as he’s trouble too.

Expand on this as I've never seen it supported by anybody who's worked with him...

That's.... not how value works. The salary goes to the player, not the club. The player's contract is running down and you get no value from loaning him out for free.

It's confusing with Rashford because he's an academy product. But imagine you buy a player for 100m and you sign him on a 5-year deal. You amortise his value at 20m per year. his salary is already annual. What happens if you loan him for free every year until his contract runs out? You lost 100m. You lose a 20m amortised value, annually, when you loan him out for free.

That's exactly what happened to Sancho, free or even subsidised loans and we got none of the money we paid for him back. Because given the size of his contract, the market valued him at 0 transfer value and we accepted that, completely writing off his value and getting none of the money or value from him. Same is happening now with Rashford.

What makes you think Mainoo is trouble? Seems a really level headed lad?

I mean maybe Butt doesn’t mention them because he didn’t see them as players with poor attitudes?

Rashford is an academy player, so he did not cost us a transfer fee to amortize and getting rid of his salary for a season was good value for the club and he is by far one of the highest paid players in Europe, and loaning a player with such a massive salary and getting the loaning club to pay his full salary is a feat on it's own, Barca paid him his full salary, 18m, for his services for one season, that's quite the financial outlay for anyone to think Rashford is valued at zero, also there is the option which is kinda low to be fair

So by your rationale, if this was good value for the club already, why not continue this way? Just loan him for free again. That’s what Barca want. Why are we asking for money then?

You know the answer to this. Because there is no value for the club. We loaned him just to put him on the window hoping someone will pay for him. It would cost us more than Rashford’s annual salary per year to replace him. It already does in fact.

We replaced him with Cunha. We paid 63.5m for 5 years for Cunha (amortised at 12.7 per year) plus 150k weekly salary (7.8m annually in salary). That’s 20.5m per year. Cunha is currently costing us more than Rashford is costing Barca.

So is the agreed price in his loan deal still valid?
I read somewhere a while ago that it had expired. If that's the case, can he be sold to the highest bidder?
Although for him, it seems Barcelona or nothing.

Apparently Courtois said after watching a replay of the free kick he conceded yesterday, he didn't feel as he could have done more as it was unstoppable. One of the best free kicks he has conceded.

*This was on twitter and I can't remember the source so it could be bullshit*t quote.

It's actually insane how much BS fake quotes are on there recently. Easy engagement farming.

Usually it was limited to Ronaldo/Messi stuff, but now its seems to be all over football twitter.

Not just football twitter, essentially the vast majority of quotes on social media are total fiction posted as rage bait and for engagement farming. It is clear that you can attribute any comment you want to any individual you want and there are simply no consequences for lying, which is only exacerbated by the fact that seemingly 99% of the population lacks the basic common sense to verify a quote before reacting to it.

100%

It was great to see how happy he was after the match. I hope Barca can just act normal and pay the fee to keep him there.

It seems like the perfect place for him!

Did we receive a fee for the loan?

Did we have any eventual fee written into the loan?

If they are playing silly buggers between them, the worst deal for us is to keep him for his remaking salary and we lose out on 18m in wages, while he rots for a year and becomes a red flag fir anyone else. Or maybe they pay (another?) loan fee and we get that, and his wages off the books. If an agreed transfer fee is part of the deal, they are legally obliged to fulfil the deal on those terms just as we are to pay his wages. Last thing we need is the fckr moping around the place again having got rid of most of the bad eggs.

Marcus becomes the second Man Utd academic graduate to win a La Liga title. If my memory is accurate. I'm not sure, I just made that up.

But Rashy is the second, and there was one other who we all know. Any more besides those two?
