Marcus Rashford - Barcelona “we don’t want him” | High salt content warning

What's Amad's most productive season? I'm seeing 8/6 last year is that his best to date? To be fair we did once have a winger on the other side that probably would have gone on to better Rashford just he turned out to be a wrong'un.

I worry they are just keeping his morale up. I will believe this when his wages are officially off our books. But I take this over them not briefing that they intend to keep him.

Amad brings a lot to the table outside of goals and assists, he's just more present and has more influence in deeper positions. Part of Rashfords problem here was that he offered very little besides goals. Everything else was sporadic at best.
I'd agree with the larger point that his time here is a bit underrated. He was one of the better players in a top 4 / 6 team.

No, that wasn't me shitting on Amad. Far from it was just asking about the stats because the years are starting to blend into each other so was asking if last year was his most productive. Also was last year Amad's 1st full season then? because on the stats page it says 8/6 in 20 odd games which is fantastic by the way and he contributes far more than just goals like you said.

I've watched all Barca's matches this year and he is still not fitting in yet. Rarely gets the final pass in a move (or any pass for that matter). Players always looking for Yamal, Raphinha, Fermin, or Torres.

First full season for us. He picked up a fairly extended injury last year too.
He played a handful of games at the end of the previous season.

Cheers. Anyway glad he's here and hopefully can continue to progress now he'll be playing in a more natural role for a forwards, well maybe he does still don't know who it'll be out of him or Mbeumo.

Do agree with this. Probably why he's getting assist and not the goals. Outside of the corners he takes when he does get the ball he does seem to give it off the next player a lot quicker over there then he would here. Saying that he has quite a few chances fall to him that he should have done better with, well in the league anyway. CL he's done fine.

Played 10 years in the first team, never really kicked on, would have one very good season followed by one or two poor ones.

Only stayed so long because he is English and an academy product, while the team went through manager after manager and under achieving as a club.

Doesn't make more than 10 appearances if Sir Alex never left.
Or in another scenario, SAF becomes a true father figure to him, doesn’t let him turn into a wanker, keeps him grounded professional, and motivated, and he grows into one of United’s legends. SAF was special.

Who only really became an option im the last year or two. Purchased around 2021 iirc. Our winger signings over the years have been a disgrace.
We've bought some quality wingers over the years but none of them have lived up to expectations. Di Maria, Depay, Sancho all had massive talent and never really fulfilled their talent here.

Rashford wasn’t a failure. An academy player with 130 goals for our club is not a failure. lost motivation yes, failure? not for me.

Think we just have slightly different meanings. He ultimately failed here but he wasn't a total failure no, any player that gets significant minutes here isn't a failure in that sense.

Yeah he’s definitely not a failure, tedious reading that everything United related that didn’t reach the heights of the greatest days are failures. Ole as manager another example. There’s a big gap between an all-time great and a failure, Rashford would be much closer to the former than a failure. A good player who had a fine career here. Had the potential for more than that but ultimately didn’t happen.

Sancho, Antony, Sanchez, these are failures.

Marcus Rashford is one of our top ten strikers (or attacking wingers) in our time in the prem. we are the most successful prem team. To suggest he’s anything other than a success is mad.

Have to agree with this.

Hopefully Rashy's move is made permanent. We need the money and to free up the wage bill and he gets to enjoy himself in an environment and club that is stable for the remaining years of his career.

You cannot quantify a player with goals/assists.

Is he?

He certainly is not.

Cantona, Giggs, Hughes, Cole, Yorke, Solskjaer, Beckham, RVN, RVP, Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez, Sheringham, Berbatov, Nani. That is 15.

Not sure I agree with your first point, but he certainly wasn't a failure. At most he was ultimately a disappointment based on what we hoped he'd become, but I don't think it's entirely fair to blame him for that.

His biggest problem was that because of our issues during his time here he was elevated to a status he didn't really merit. He became our talisman and we became heavily reliant on him, but he never was that type of player.

He was more akin to a Nani but was given the status of a Rooney. I don't doubt he would have contributed this season - probably more than Cunha - but we needed to reset.

Those two things are not connected. We’re the most successful prem team because we’ve won the PL 13 times. Rashford has never been part of a PL winning team. He has however, played many more games for United than a lot of our best strikers have.

If he lowers his wages, that's a terrific deal for Barca. I'll believe it when I see it though as I can picture them trying to get him on another loan instead.
Are his wages really that much of an issue there? They’ve got a bunch of guys on 300-400k. Think it’s more likely they will just cry poor if his form dips and they want to sell.

Good for him, it's a great opportunity. Redcafe told me he was finished and that Barca would be sending him back......
And Redcafe is partly right because he didn’t try this hard here. You just see the sprints and effort he is putting in Catalunya to earn that contract. He didn’t do that here. Past United players have said the same thing.

Yeah he needed a change, it’s clear when you hear him talk that there was no future for him at United and we would have got much out of him.

I hope it’s true Barca will buy him but will believe it when I see it. Wouldn’t be shocked if they want to knock money off the fee as well.

They are pretty screwed money wise, cannot spend much.

Spent very little in recent years.

Do we think the timing is a coincidence or are they reacting to us sacking the guy who pushed him out, feeling they must declare their love for Rashford before anyone who may be managing us next season does.

Hard to argue with that. Rashford for the most part this season has been good/decent enough probably better than all 3 of the signings we made this summer, I understand different league and level of competition but he's got goal involvements in games against Madrid and PSG and scored a brace against Newcastle in the CL so he's impacting in the big games too but even then I personally wouldn't want him back here. Like it's been mentioned there's no point looking back now, best for both parties he leaves.

Probably a coincidence, seems like very other week we get a brief that they're sending him back or looking to make it permanent.

I'd say Marcus is neither a success or a failure for us. If you were to veer on either side there are too many instances of the opposite to make you question your view.

Ultimately, and this isn't just recency bias, IMO he's just been a disappointment. A local lad, with magic in his boots who so often chose to bum around the pitch.

I don't care about reasons, rationale, excuses. The amount of times he would just walk around in his latter years will forever stick in my mind. He should have been the one grafting harder than everyone.

I wish him well on his next chapter. Legend, great, "top player" for us - he is far from... IMO.

Think this is largely fair.

The timing certainly doesn’t seem to be connected to what he’s producing for them on pitch, coming after he lost his place in the team and has been getting mixed reviews as a substitute.

It’s been over two months since he last scored a league goal for them.

I think we should reevaluate that deal (clause is too low for a player of that quality). I know, I know but now that Amorim’s gone the landscape is very different for him. We need to invest a lot in the summer in the midfield area so no time to waste money on a new winger who’ll take time to adapt…

RASHBACK !

They don't, there's De Jong but it's a holdover from the covid deferred wages, Lewandowski whose contract is expiring, and Lamine Yamal. Everyone else is in the 150-200k range for high earners

And the key issue here is Rashford isn't worth 300k a week. He's good, but at that price they can likely find someone just as good and cheaper or younger

Good for him, it's a great opportunity. Redcafe told me he was finished and that Barca would be sending him back......

It's a good move for all parties to be fair, United really needed to move him on because there's just been enough problems and his wages are excessive for what he was giving on the pitch. Rashford needed a change of scenery. Barcelona like buying players. Everyone wins.

Rashford has more goals for United than Nani, Berbatov and Tevez combined. To put Berbatov and especially Tevez ahead of him in any list is mental.
