Marcus Rashford - Barcelona “we don’t want him” | High salt content warning

I'd say Marcus is neither a success or a failure for us. If you were to veer on either side there are too many instances of the opposite to make you question your view.

Ultimately, and this isn't just recency bias, IMO he's just been a disappointment. A local lad, with magic in his boots who so often chose to bum around the pitch.

I don't care about reasons, rationale, excuses. The amount of times he would just walk around in his latter years will forever stick in my mind. He should have been the one grafting harder than everyone.

I wish him well on his next chapter. Legend, great, "top player" for us - he is far from... IMO.
An academy player making over 400 appearances and scoring 150 goals is definitely a success!

He definitely did down tools towards the end and couldn't cope with being our talisman but he was one of our best players for years until we ran him into the ground.

“Ran him into the ground”?

Nah. He took the piss on and off the pitch, for whatever reason.

The numbers are decent because he’s a good player that played in a good team for a long time.

Could have been so much more. Shame but we move on.

Nani

Nani scored 26 goals in the PL throughout his career.

Rashford had like a 30, a 22 & a 21 goal season:lol:

Nani gets to play next to Rooney Ronaldo Scholes Giggs Rio - some of the best player of all time whist Rashford plays with Martial, Herrera, Lingard, Pogba, maybe Lindelof or Rojo?

SAF would have turned Rashford's mentality and ability even better, instead he gets managed by managers who are nowhere near SAF's ability; closest being Van Gaal who actually gave him his debut.

Rashford seemed to have hurt so many peoples feelings that people don't realise how good he was for us.

It's like breaking up with your girlfriend and trying to convince yourself that she wasn't really that great In the first place.

Nani Under Ten Hag would have been great to watch.

Rashford lost his way with his off-the-pitch activities dominating his lifestyle and raising questions about his focus.

He has never, consistently discovered his best form, and in my opinion, he suffers from thinking he is far better than what he is. He can be devastating, outstanding.. but we see this only occasionally. He can also be extremely predictable and rather ineffective.

Let him go to Barcelona. Get him off the wage bill and recoup some of his past earnings through a transfer fee.

I think he will leave Barcelona anyway, if Raphina finds form, Rashford's only option is to play as a No 9. However, he has stated that he doesn't like that position.

They are not buying him at best they would haggle for another loan .

Barcelona probably realised that with Amorim gone and United probably making a return to more conventional assembly, and also currently lacking a Senior LW, a recall might just have been in order if they failed to play ball.

As unlikely as a recall would be, couldn’t rule it out. After all, Rashford’s main crime was laziness and detachment. He never pissed on Sir Busby’s wreath.

Marcus Rashford is one of our top ten strikers (or attacking wingers) in our time in the prem. we are the most successful prem team. To suggest he’s anything other than a success is mad.
No.

The idea of any United fan having Tevez or Sheringham above Rashford is completely alien to me. You’ve lost your head.

Are you serious? I can only assume this relates to the fact that Rashford came through our ranks, right?

Tevez was better than Rashford, he just became a football mercenary.

Teddy Sheringham was miles, miles better than Marcus Rashford, in all aspects of being a top footballer. Sheringham was an outstanding player, outstanding.

I just think Barca are such untrustworthy cnuts that it's almost impossible to deal with them. They of course did what everyone expected last summer and got him virtually for free when we wanted to sell. Now Romano words it thus that there is no guarantee on the option they have which is a meagre 30m euros, but that they want him. Which is fuzzy as feck, and they probably want to get this done for 10m in the summer with him taking a massive wage cut (obviously, understandably) if it happens at all.

Best case scenario here is that he just has an outstanding rest of season so they are either forced to pay the buy-out clause or another clubs steps up and wants to buy him, even if that will mean loads of people here and elsewhere will think he should come back and showcase his absolute lack of commitment for 350K a week.

Thank you, someone with sense. Tevez and Sheringham were miles better footballers, no brainer really.

Nani captained his NT into a final if I recall. Dont tell me that Eder is a better player than Kane. And when Rooney was not playing in 2010, Nani was carrying us, almost to a title, and then was instrumental for a title. It is not like Gibson, or Phil Neville or whatever. The guy was instrumental for us reaching a CL final and to a league title.

Nani was a frustrating player and unfortunately couldnt maintan that level. But his performances for almost a year (late 09, early 11) were immaculate, and Rashford can reach that level only in his dreams and it is not even debatable.

No chance that Tevez, Berbatov and Nani better than Rashford.

There are others that are debatable.

Are people joking with Rashford is better than Tevez and Nani etc, or they watched football for 6 months in 2021? Tevez was one of the best players in the world from 2007 till 2015 or so. Go see his performances with Juve. Like the disrespect is unbelievable. Go watch Berbatov in 2003 or 2010. These players were carrying teams into titles and international recognition.

Big Nani fan myself, love the guy and always felt he was underrated - but Rashford's career stats speak for themselves despite a lot of people here having a distaste for him. Nani was a solid squad player while Rashford at one point was leading the line for the club.

Also whoever put Tevez ahead of him, c'mon. At least Rashford isn't a mercenary.

Glad he's doing better at Barcelona and wish him the best for his future. Not a club legend in my books but he's our top scorer in the last decade and an outstanding academy product.

At least he put a shift in for his money

I’m only considering their time at United.

What they did outside is irrelevant.

Furthermore, irrespective of that, just because people have different opinions to you, it doesn’t mean players have been ‘disrespected’.

You are comparing PL goals vs goals in all competitions.

Also Nani got more assists than goals.

Goals and assists do not tell the whole story.

Nani did get to play with better players, but Rashford also got things built around him at times, where he had to do almost no defensive work and he could just wait up front for the ball to counter attack.

Rashford had 1 world class season in his career. He only stayed so long because the club were awful for years, so were clinging to hope that the academy star boy would lead the club to glory. If he was not an academy player he would have been sold years ago.

What a bizarre reply.

Firstly we have held onto many players for for too long since Fergie left. E.g Shaw and Lindelof - neither of which were academy players.

Secondly, the likes of Yorke and Tevez only had one world class season. You seem unable to separate the player he once was for us from the one who we have see over the past 3 years.

Players like Yorke and RVP only had one great season and then really fell off. Love what those players did for the club, but we cannot pretend that they were great players for an extended period of time. Tevez had an excellent first season, but was mostly poor for his second. Berbatov was a player who never had a great season for us.

You don’t like Rashford. Get it. But he was a very good player for us for a number of seasons, and he’s scored 150 goals for the club.

We all know he needs to move on, and that ideally that would have been a couple of years ago.

Depends on what you class as a legend.
For me, he isn't even at the same level as Teddy Sheringham or Lee Sharpe.
You think Lee Sharpe was a better player than Rashford! Thats one high take.

I think Rashford was better than Sheringham - but think you could have a good debate about that. I really cannot see the argument with Sharpe.

Sorry misunderstood your post, I thought you were nulling their whole career. My bad.

Nani still edges it compared to Rashford Imo (by just considering their time in United).

Never said better. The statement i replied to was about being a legend.
In those terms, Sheringham and Sharpe are both bigger legends to me than Rashford.

It's not like Barça are trying to scam United. The problem is the Financial Fair Play in La Liga is very strict so signing Rashford is hard, mostly because of his salary.

Have you seen how good Rafinhas been since he came back from injury? Theres no world where Barca sign this expensive version of Rashford.

He is on super star wages and not a guaranteed starter.

Having a squad option as good as Rashford is vital for big clubs. Raphinha and Yamal both spent a lot of time injured this season and Rashford stepped up during this period. You need that. You need him as an impact sub. It's a no brainer of a deal for them given how he's played.

He’s not gonna be offered those wages and he’s gonna cost them less than Dorgu cost us.
I think the question is whether he will want to stay there. Presently, he isn’t getting much game time, despite arguably being their best player in the first part of the season.

If that remains the case, he might take the titles which they win this year to add to his CV, but want a new challenge next year with more guarantee of first team football.
