Marcus Rashford - Barcelona Watch | Athletic: Progress made for permanent deal

No concrete links yet to any notable LWs and we sure as hell need one this summer. Apparently Carrick wants Rashford back if he gets the job, won't happen though. Rashford was basically pushed out of the club and the fanbase in general was extremely harsh with him. Actually had a banner put up against him at Old Trafford and was personally bood a few times. He won't want to come back and it's better that way.

Hope that story is bs - would be a dumb move considering wage structure and player power. And we have enough options at LW with dorgu, Cunha, mbeumo or Mount.

Has a senior player ever gone on loan and then gone on to succeed on their return back to their parent club?

I remember Crespo returned to Chelsea and played regularly, but cant recall if he was good. He did leave again.

Would love Rashford back. He is a local lad who went through a hard time under ETH and Amorim.
The talent is definitely there, he is the type of player who need love, an arm around his shoulder to perform.

Barcelona agree a fee then say they don't want to pay it any more. Unprofessional and trying to take the piss.

Carrick knows him well and can bring the best out of him. He is also a senior player and we need a LW. Keep him!

I used to keep a list of all the things people mentioned here that Rashford needed to play well. I'll add this to the list;

To perform Rashford just needs;

- to play LW
- to play up front
- Shaw behind him
- a good right winger to compliment him
- a girlfriend
- a steady manager
- a strong leader to help him on the pitch
- to be loved
- to have an arm around his shoulder

Don't see any benefit of him returning unless he learns how track back and run is socks off each and every game.

I disagree with the first sentence of your post. Again, he’s the flagbearer of the culture and wage structure they’re trying to reset, and a hugely influential character on the squad. Even if he doesn’t come back we’re not going to spend on the LW position in a 4-2-3-1 with Cunha and Dorgu there with Amad and Mbeumo able to fill in temporarily in case of injury clusterfeck so I think the club would do well to get him out in the summer for a variety of reasons
plus Mount, and even Bruno

If only Rashford was all of these plus better at football.

Then we'd have a slightly better player on our hands!

Actually, it's surprisingly rare. Courtois is an example, but otherwise it's mostly been players who were sold to different club, De Bruyne and Morata for example.

Would also want him to take a pay cut for it to even be considered. He can’t be the main man, and can’t be earning like one either.

I just think we're not gonna be able to sell him. If that's the case, might as well get someone who works with him. He did have arguably his best period under the Carrick/Ole regime last time. I think he personally became a bit dissillusioned by the club with how it went down during Ole's last term I remember how giddy he was when Ole was first announced.

I think he’s played his last game for us. We’re looking to untangle all these huge contracts the Glazer regime have tied us up in, and his contract is one of the big ones.

It would be delusional for the club to think ‘I can change him’ at this point.

You think we should pick our next manager based off whether or not he can work with Rashford?

This is exactly what United's problem with Rashford was and why the Barca "success" seems so misleading to many fans here. United gave Rashford the 10, 300k+ a week and asked him to carry one of the biggest club's in the world on his shoulders. He neither has the talent nor the mentality for that. At Barca, he is a 25 mil player that comes off the bench and stretches defenses and scores goals.

He doesn’t even do that…. We’re in desperate realms of G/A heavy lifting to prove that a player whose been the primary goal threat/No9 for most of his career is suddenly excelling on loan with 3 league goals this season…

I don’t even think he wants to come back here, I don’t know why people are worried. If Barca don’t cough up the money, someone else will because he’s been good there. Barca fans want him, other big clubs will take the chance.

rashford Cunha Mbuemo
Rashford Mbuemo Dorgu
Cunha Rashford Mbuemo
Cunha Mbuemo Rashford

If he’s smart though he stays there and then can go for another big contract in Italy or even premier league.

If the fee is very low then it pays out for the wages.

It’s also over a longer amount of time isn’t it?
I could also see him taking a lower wage considering playing for Barca changes are he can get one more contract
Something’s got to give, because while he is doing good, he is not justifying his wage neither from United’s nor Barcelona’s perspective.

My phrasing wasn't great but usually we'd have a vague idea of whoever we're interested in. There are usually rumors or a random article or two. I don't think that has changed because Utd are rarely able to keep transfer business quiet and the complete silence on the very evident need for a LW is strange. Not even a bullshit article or two linking us to a LW we'd never sign anyway.

Why would Rashford get into that lineup over Amad, Dorgu or event Mount all of whom are harder working and contribute more to team cohesion? Hell I would even say Lacey deserves more opportunities first
Because he served this team through some of our worst time in 20 years and currently has a large amount of goals/assists. Agree with you best is to move him on but if he comes back thinking he can’t play there doesn’t make sense. Mount is best as a ten and Amad on the right hand side. Dorgu on the right as well. I’m not saying we should bring him back, simply if we do he can play there . I’ve heard people saying Mbuemo can play LW, so they want him to play RW, Striker and LW at the same time?
He’s a more natural sub for Cunha and i do think he would be good competition for him.

He seems to be more intelligent with the pass after his time at Villa and Barcelona.

That being said i just think it’s a master stroke of genius carrick is saying this. Putting some pressure on Barcelona. The 30-35 million fee is so darn low unfortunately but with his wages I wonder where it evens out if the signed him for 50 or 60, depends all on his wages with them

Never ever. He can stay wherever but no way he is allowed back in. Barca just trying to get him cheaper but for sure we can find another club paying 30m

No thanks. Carrick is the interim for now, someone should remind him of this. He should focus on the next games, not squad planning for next season.

Don't think I could stomach again having to watch Rashford stroll around the pitch sulking, with a face like a smacked arse, not bothering to press or track back, and trying to dribble the ball past 3 defenders and losing possession every time.

Perhaps the one good thing Amorim did was getting the toxic players out of the club (if only on loan for some of them), it would be a retrograde step to bring them back and I'm disappointed if Carrick is of that mind.

I'm sure there would be a lot of clubs willing to pay 30m for Marcus, the problem is Marcus doesn't want to join them.

not starting again tonight , being on bench for last 5/6 games . think he is coming back unfortunatly.

Well again though, I think it's on purpose at the minute because we've no idea what we're doing in summer. Any transfer business is gonna be secondary to the manager and even the rumour mills have no idea who to link us with.

I’ve only watched Barca a handful of times this season, and Rashford still seems to be lazy off the ball. That’s not what we want to reintroduce.

He’s doing well in Spain because it’s an easier league. It’s as simple as that. And don’t use the champions league as an example either, where we’re seeing Spurs beating top European teams, Newcastle competing with the champions and Benfica spanking Real

feck no. The whole point is to remove lazy players from the squad. We had this culture reset for a reason, Carrick is simply an interim.

We should at least get a semi decent fee for him given he's having a relatively decent loan.

Oh fecking hell, seriously?

Things were just starting to look ever so slightly positive

Lads, the journalist credited with that literally published this today:

Inside Marcus Rashford’s new life in Barcelona

Striker in his ‘happy place’ living under the radar in Spain and it is difficult to envisage him ever playing for Man Utd again

Falcao. Shite on loan after his serious injuries then had few good season with Monaco.
Perisic. Inter to Bayern then back at Inter.
