Marcus Rashford - Barcelona Watch | Athletic: Progress made for permanent deal

There’s still a player in there, if Barca can’t afford him there should be someone out there able to pay decent money for him.

If not back up striker for a year, see how it goes.

Hopefully it's a negotiating ploy, Barcelona do this shit all the time.

Barcelona: "Oh yeah, we're not sure we actually want him"
United: "Ok brilliant, we want him back so that's fine"
Barcelona: "...wait a second"

Probably gets us a better deal than Amorim going into pressers and naming the players he's desperate to get rid.

Because he served this team through some of our worst time in 20 years and currently has a large amount of goals/assists. Agree with you best is to move him on but if he comes back thinking he can’t play there doesn’t make sense. Mount is best as a ten and Amad on the right hand side. Dorgu on the right as well. I’m not saying we should bring him back, simply if we do he can play there . I’ve heard people saying Mbuemo can play LW, so they want him to play RW, Striker and LW at the same time?
He’s a more natural sub for Cunha and i do think he would be good competition for him.

He seems to be more intelligent with the pass after his time at Villa and Barcelona.

That being said i just think it’s a master stroke of genius carrick is saying this. Putting some pressure on Barcelona. The 30-35 million fee is so darn low unfortunately but with his wages I wonder where it evens out if the signed him for 50 or 60, depends all on his wages with them
He was the laziest player I've ever seen at united. He served himself and didn't care about the club at all.

I do not have the appetite for watching him stink up the place in a United shirt. I hope this report about Carrick wanting him here a poker move by the club to try and get Barca to trigger that clause.

His laziness is the absolute opposite of what this football team needs. And at 350K...eugh.

He would come back as a depth player and not as someone expected to be the superstar. Having him as a depth piece is a flex

Yeah having a 300k a week depth piece is definitely a flex , Ineos must be really thrilled and excited by the mere thought of him coming back .

On his salary yeah no thanks.
We might not have a choice, unfortunately. It's either Barcelona or he returns to United - there is no other club in Europe that would want him and pay his wages. He doesn't strike me as someone willing to go to Saudi. MLS is more like it, but after his current contract expires in 2028.

We can probably keep loaning him for two more years if we desperately don't want him in a United shirt. He's decent enough to attract that kind of interest.

I believe thats the most plausible scenario unfortunately if Barca don't want to commit permanently after Seeing what Rashford can do for them then hard to see who else would .

He doesn’t even do that…. We’re in desperate realms of G/A heavy lifting to prove that a player whose been the primary goal threat/No9 for most of his career is suddenly excelling on loan with 3 league goals this season…
He most definitely does. I watch every Barca game and while Raphinha is excellent in and around the box, he is a left footer playing on the left. Rashford offers something different especially when teams overload the right side vs Yamal. If his finishing had been better, he'd be on 20 goals. But like I said no complaints

Why is everyone so concerned about his wage? It’s 15 million a year. If he was on 10 million a year would we be happier?
I think he was on 7-8 millions a year he'd still be playing for you

He's a rotation option player. Bring him off the bench, start him in the cups. Use him when you need to manage game time of superior players. The problem with that is that we gave him a wage and ego of a superstar player. I'm confused about his 'connection' with Yamal to be honest. There's a decade between them in age. The only off-field 'connection' they should have is as mature team mate there for advice and support for younger colleague. What I fear the connection actually is in reality is that Rashford has become the Jessie Lingard in the relationship; knocking 30 and still cosplaying 'bantz and beanz' being down with the kids.

A big problem has always been this perception that he's struggled to kick on and show maturity on (and off) the field. The criticism is that he still acts and is treated like a 19 year old 'wonderkid' when he's ten years on from that. Or should be. I don't think if it's true he's gone there and he's become besties with Yamal that it's necessarily a great sign. If he comes back is he going to knock at Shea Lacey's and ask his mum if he's able to come out and play?

I don't want to think of him as David Brent coming in with his leather jacket and high heel boots trying to 'kick it' with the kids. He should be the 'been there done that' elder head in the changing room. Not someone practicing TikTok trends in the mirror because everyone you're seeing that evening is unlikely to get served without bringing their ID. Same with Grealish with the private life of a first year student. I don't get why being immature isn't called out as much.

Maybe Carrick & United are taking the opposite approach of Amorim's - making him seem like a valuable commodity as opposed to unwanted trash from the bomb squad. Either way I really hope United and Rashford go their own separate ways, it's the best solution for both parties involved.

Barca's option takes priority if they already have a binding agreement with Rashford as well. If not then we could let him know there's the option to have his full wages and play for us next season, which could be tempting for him if he's not sure Barca is where he wants to be.

You actually want him back?

What's his workrate like with Barca? I got sick of him strolling around the pitch at United like he was too good to track back or put pressure on defenders (and in his last 2 seasons he definitely didn't have the G/A output to justify it).

He might still get away with it at Barca where they probably have 75% possession most games, but in the PL, teams can't afford to carry a passenger if he's not scoring goals (as Liverpool found out earlier this season with Salah)

And that is how it should be. You may not fancy someone but to publicly call players out is never a good thing. Amorim was an idiot for doing that.
