Marcus Rashford - Barcelona Watch | Athletic: Progress made for permanent deal

Don’t agree. Rashford supplied plenty of context making it known that he wanted out, through his words and actions.

Mainoo on the other hand was being questioned whether he fit into Amorims system. He always remained professional bap the question about suitability divided fans.
You think Mainoo was blissfully unaware about the free Mainoo shirt? Think it's fair to question if Rashford was pushed out but let's face it he gave enough reason for them to do it if he was. Would have been interesting to see if Amorim did stay what would have happened with Mainoo because personally don't believe the t-shirt stunt would have been the last we saw if he was still riding the bench, fortunately the problems gone now but Mainoo wasn't blameless in all that.

I believe the Marcus was experiencing a similar type of negativity to what Mainoo was/is going through now before he stated he wanted to leave.

Both broke through early, played really well, expectations raise. Form fluctuates as it does everyone, criticism follows. Some fair some, some personal, most based on speculation or opinion presented as fact.

In relation to the suitability of Mainoo, it wasn’t about that for me. I felt like some people were overly down playing his qualities or performances to justify themselves. I believe it happens in this thread too.

Is it the most obvious thing in the world to predict that broke Barcelona are just going to try to loan Rashford for another season without paying to sign him permanently?
Supposedly it's a part of the election process going on this summer, think it's Laporta rumoured to be running with the idea that he'll sign him permenant as part of his campaign.

Honestly I think Dan Burn’s curled header might be my fave.

That skill was outrageous.

Did Rashford’s actually win? I think the only one it was better than was the keeper’s header and Vitinha’s. Far better goals in that compilation

Yea never seen a curled header. Cd running the entire length of the pitch and a sweet finish, my fave. They're all wonder goals to be honest, Rashy was never number 1 goal however

Main difference between Rashford and Mainoo is that one is developing and maturing and the other has been the same player for the best part of a decade. You can see Mainoo maturing and bringing in new elements of his play. He's a more disciplined with the ball and positionally than he was even a year ago. Rashford has never changed. Everything he's good at now he was good at 10 years ago. Everything he was poor at 10 years ago he's still poor at now.

Sometimes he finds environments or settings where that works for a while. Other times he struggles. It's when those long periods of struggle have taken hold that his lack of development as a player really show.

Fair dues Rashford didn’t progress to the level many thought or hoped he would but for me there are other factors rather than it being Marcus just not caring that have influenced them. Some players maintain a similar trajectory for most of their career for me that doesn’t make them poor players.

However that wasn’t the point of my post, I’m not comparing them as players or their progression. I like both it’s the similarities in parts of theirs careers and the fan’s reaction to it. It’s felt like Mainoo was a microcosm of a trait we see regularly.

I've never seen that before but bloody hell what a header. Reminds me of that Roberto Carlos free kick against France - the keeper doesn't even bother because he thinks it's going wide

Only thing Rashford worked on was his physique.

It’s why I’ve said it’s damning on Ole that he allowed Rashford to get away with it.

I find it interesting that every time he seems to work himself back into good graces he gets injured. At least this is no longer something he does for us solely now.

What's the end game in this imaginary situation? Does just enough enough to escape criticism then he collects the cheques from the treatment table? Seems plausible.

We're still impying that players intentionally fake injuries at multi-billion dollar football clubs who staff expensive teams of physios and health professionals to make sure those clubs get the most out of their players

That sort of resentment isn't healthy I'm sure

That's nonsense to be honest. Rashford when he came through was a 9 running through on the last shoulder. This season he's playing more as a wide playmaker and is getting assists in a variety of ways, passing, whipped crossing etc. He's a much better rounded player, and scores a big variety of goals.

️ Ex-Manchester United first-team masseur Rod Thornley, who worked at Old Trafford from 2000 to 2019, says Marcus Rashford 'tossed off' his Red Devils career: “I’ll say it I don’t mind, I know Marcus and if he’s not happy with what I say I don’t care. He became unhappy. He became a different person. I watched this player that used to be a happy, lovely kid just moping around, especially in the club.

“Outside the club I used to see him every now and then and he was fine outside the club, but in the club he had this demeanour about him that just wasn’t great. Then it transferred onto the pitch and then you see him walking around and you just wanted energy levels out of him, which is what Michael Carrick is doing now.

“He’s getting energy levels out of the players and you wanted that out of Marcus, but you just weren’t getting it and it was tossed off basically. For me he’s half tossed off his Manchester United career rather that it has been taken away from him.”

This cumming from the masseur is going to fuel a lot of questions

Why does Rod keep saying tossed off?

Also he's a masseur, I hope someone shows this to Roy Keane if real

What a load of conjecture this is, I have 2 sisters and a brother, I would rarely know what they are doing day to day, and if anything Mainoo himself might have told his brother not to do it if he knew about it and the brother did it anyway, maybe we'll find out one day maybe we won't but your post is just guesswork based on nothing of substance

If he left the club in 2019, he's saying that Rashford changed and was moping about prior to that.

That's surprising.

Conjecture about what? I asked If he believed Mainoo was unaware of the stunt. Didn't give my opinion on it either way.

What is your algorithm if a ex Manchester United masseurs interview pops up on your feed?

Edit: Just had a quick google Goldbridge covered it, big United Stand fan?

It is not surprising at all. He was walking around the pitch and sulking during that time as well.

He was never a type of player to put his head down, do the business and get picked.

He'd only be worth £50M if he slashed his wages, which is out of our control. The number of clubs that can pay both £50M transfer fee and £300pw wages is small and Rashford is not exactly the most appealing player on the market, even after an improved season.

Obviously we could put our foot down, stick him in the reserves, etc if he refuses to move to, say, Spurs or Newcastle on reduced wages. But, yeah, that never happens in the real world, and I'd rather avoid another circus around his transfer all summer.

Hope they can reach a deal. Rashford has no future at United and it's better for all parties if he's sold asap.

It would have been nice if he found out from Marcus why this change occurred for me, we all saw the change.

The guy left United in 2019. Rashford had his best season for us a couple of years later.

Say no to drama. If Rashford wants so desperately to stay at Barca, he can help Barca to pay for him by taking a significant paycut. If he takes the paycut, there is no reason we should drop the agreed price. It's very simple really.
