Marcus Rashford - Barcelona Watch | Athletic: Progress made for permanent deal

They'll sign him, and I expect to see this thread drop off..... Or maybe not, who knows? Either way, win win. We both came out of it better than we started!

Feels to me this is all quite likely now and if it does come to pass then it definitely has gone well for all involved. Better than I would've expected.

Maybe we're counting chickens a bit early but yeah looking good.

Fook him. And fook him forever. He's no Red.

Genuinely surprised that Barcelona think he's worthwhile.

And I loved him so much when he was fkn over B**** J******.
Only born and raised in Wythenshawe but hey ho.

When you have options and release clauses it’s usually an upfront figure. The payment terms are rarely mapped out.

You are correct that with most transfers, payments are made in instalments. But if triggering a certain clause, it’s more often a stated figure. If the buying club wants specific payment terms that’s outside of the agreement, that’s to be negotiated separately.

It's not. The only scenario where upfront payments are the norm are buyout clauses, everything else is subject to negotiations and generally paid in installments even when we are talking about mega rich clubs like PSG or Man City.

Ta-ra. Thank God it’s over at last.

We move on to better things and he does as well.
Not sure that anything is over. None of these stories seem to be coming from Barcelona. For a start the stories are too frequent and too similar. Why would the club randomly repeat every two or three weeks the same story? I think this is the third time since December they’ve “made a decision” to sign him.

Secondly even if they had concluded to make a permanent move, that’s the last thing they’d be leaking. They’d want to get the price down and have as much leverage as possible going into any negotiations.

Lastly, only the botched PR team around this guy - seemingly made up of any family member that can’t get their own job - would think it looks impressive to anyone that he acts ‘professionally’. Much less be a key cited factor in the transfer. What next? Barcelona have decided to make the deal permanent because he copes well under pressure, works well with others, cash handling experience and has an NVQ in customer relations?

They’re pre-emptively getting ahead of the narrative he’s an unprofessional sulker. That’s why we’re reading he as a “great relationship” with X, Y and Z and is “professional”. No club would leak that as part of a potential deal. ALL of this is coming from Team Marcus

Call me a pessimist, but I think all of these stories and leaks have his own notoriously bungling PR team’s stamp all over them and there’s more than a fair chance we’ll see stories about him turning up at Carrington at 7am with Instagram photos of him in the gym with news that he’s “really excited to work with Sesko” by the time we get to July

Not really sure why you felt the need to include this little dig at Rashford's family. Tons of footballers employ their family members to handle their business affairs, as they can trust they'll have their best interests at heart. "Can't get their own job" comes across as very bitter.

It's also been the Barca linked sources pushing the stories that they're permanently signing him but that'll never get in the way of residual bitterness as we see again and again

Best of luck to him I suppose.

I sometimes wonder if there's still some mystery in this or if it's just how it looks.

Justifiably, he became disillusioned with how the club operated. Unjustifiably, he let his professionalism slip, became petulant on and off the pitch and let himself down big time along the way.

It's hard not to feel a bit of disdain for him tbh. I remember times when the ball was yards away from him and he didn't bother retrieving it. There are instances of opposition players more or less walking around him with the ball. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it.

I reckon he let the online criticism affect him and seemed to think the United fans in his Instagram comments were representative of the fanbase as a whole. Similar to how Garnacho never gave a farewell message to United fans, as he spent too much time online.

I think this is what happened too.

But to be fair to both Rashford and Garnacho, it wasn't just online abuse. There's videos of both clashing with fans before and after matches too, there is a horrible section of fans that think they can say what they want to players and players cant be affected by it at all.

We're overdue a Tweet from an account called something like @FCBarcaNewz6 that tells us Barcelona have this week, once again, made the decision to sign him on a permanent deal this summer. The final, final, final decision. Until they make the same decision again some time around 6th of April

"Good luck to the lad, @FCBaraNewz6 are really very reliable with transfer stories"

Mes que un transfer

I liked Rashford and still like him. Will happily take him back on a reduced wages and as a backup option just like how Barca are doing now.

Guess, we are past that stage. So good luck !

I just can't see Rashford coming back ending well... Let's all move on

They are definitely going to pull some shananigans with this deal. Either back out completely or cry poor and try to drag it out. Even if we agree to instalments it will fall through.

33 matches 19 goals and 5 assists

rashford 34 matches 9 goals and 10 assists

you tell me??

One plays as a striker whilst the other is primarily playing on the wing, France is also a lower standard than Spain and that players goal stats have been bolstered by taking penalties. All of which is moot because even if he was on track for 100 goals and playing against the likes of prime Maldini I would not want him back even if he offered to play for free.

I’ll take the guy who’s not a piece of shit, and has double the amount of assists plus a respectable goal tally in a much more difficult league

He’s a bit part player. The wages by itself are a big outlay for someone of that stature let alone a not insignificant transfer fee. All the noise we hear about how delighted they are he gets on well with others, is very polite and eats up all his dinner, it’s always seemed a tall order they’d sign him
