People are different although I see your point. Obviously Marcus became unsettled by the instability at United in a way that somebody like Frank didn`t at Chelsea.Pffft... That's nothing. Frank Lampard had 11 managers in 13 years with Chelsea.
Some people can switch off distractions and problems better than others or can deal with them by becoming absorbed in something.
Frank was a great player and obviously had the mentality to leave off-pitch drama off-pitch and to roll with constant personnel changes. Other players find it hard.
Outside of professional sports it`s similar to people`s work. I`ve enjoyed most of my jobs and have found them a welcome focus away from other things.
When I was working in one of the countries I`ve lived and worked in, I had an horrendous 4 month period during which two of my uncles from both sides, one of my auntie`s from my mother`s side and my father all died.
I could only get to two of the funerals (my father`s was one of them) and when I returned to the country I was working in then, my employer said they had thought that maybe I would not come back. They also were surprised I just got back to business but work was a good way to forget all that.
On the other hand a friend of mine in a different country started to go awol at our workplace when his relationship with his wife started to break down. He was an incredibly reliable person until then both at a personal and professional level.
I had to deal with his customers when he didn`t turn up and our employer was surprisingly sympathetic for a culture that expects people to just separate their private and professional lives and get on with it. However, he was asked to resign because our company couldn`t accommodate somebody who would call in absent when his customers were already waiting.
That was some time ago and he recovered but for him work under those personal circumstances was something to dread. We`re all different.
