Marcus Rashford - Barcelona Watch

21 G+A by end of Jan as a squad player is a very good return. He has third best Mins per G+A too.

Im sure Hojlund is nowhere near that

I’m talking about goals. You’ve heard of them? They’re the metric most often used to analyse how good a striker is. Turns out Dani Olmo is the only attacker in Barca’s squad with less of them than Rashford. So thanks for proving my point.

 Nice try.

The Barcelona fans seem to really like him from what I’m hearing. Can’t be doing too badly, based on that?

Yup, can read threads on Barcelona subreddit who want to sign him but of course people here are the best judge, probably the same blokes who were defending Amorim a month ago or so.

They definitely seem happy with him since they don't have some pathologcal need to downplay everything he does

They defi itely seem happy with him since they don't have a pathologcal need to downplay anything he does :lol

Shocking that the fanbase who see them regularly this season wants to sign him on a permanent deal whilst experts here are trying to downplay his seeson. Wonder who should I believe?

He's completely done here. Regardless of who the next manager is I think it's almost certain he'll never play for us again.

He was poor and half arsed for 3 out of his last 4 seasons as a Utd player, I don't think he's enjoyed or wanted to be a Utd player for years outside of that brief spell in ETH's first season.

If he's doing well and Barcelona are up for paying us a decent amount of money for him it's best for everyone.

Aye because football fans on Twitter are famously well adjusted and sensible.

I’ll take the opinion of football fans on Twitter rather than those who were defending Amorim just one month ago over anything when it is related to football to be honest.

A lot of online Utd fans have an irrational dislike of him, and are incapable of objective thought when it comes to him. It's fine, it seems like an exaggerated emotional perspective in my mind, but it happens. The few Barca fans I've spoken to in Spain seem very happy with him in general yeah, though it's a small sample size.

Terrible logic but ok. You do realise there were a lot of people on Twitter giving Amorim undivided support right up until he got sacked?

Depends on your timeline I suppose, a lot on my timeline were harshly against him.

And it’s just not Twitter, even Barcelona subreddit seems supportive of him.

Eh, he's still just purple-patch Rashford though.

He's got his 8 goals and 12 assists across the league and CL, but 15 of those 20 "goal contributions" came in a 13 game run between mid-September and mid-November.

There's another 14 appearances either side of that run that's seen him produce just 5 goals/assists.

When you dive deeper, he's got 6 G/A against Olympiacos, Frankfurt, Slavia Prague, Copenhagen, the latter three of which finished in the bottom 6 of the CL group, and another 5 against Elche, Sevilla, Valencia, Getafe and Oveido, who are all sat in the bottom half of La Liga, the latter three in the bottom six.

What you're seeing as "downplaying his season" is just contextualising it for the people who seem to think there's a way back for a player that obviously downed tools for a good 18 months after being made one of highest paid players, and seem hell-bent on massively overstating his contributions to a well-oiled Barcelona.

Are the people who were defending Amorim in the room with you now?

I don't have a timeline. I don't use Twitter for many reasons - that have nothing to do with football - but from whatever exposure I have had to it over the years I know that it is crawling with idiots that have absolutely terrible takes on football. So wouldn't put any weight in polls created or shared by Twitter addicts on here.

Besides, I don't why you're so determined to link reservations about Rashford with blind faith in Amorim. Lots of people thought Amorim did a terrible job while also thinking Rashford has been not even close to justifying his status/salary at United over the last few years. I know that because i'm one of them. And my patience more or less completely ran out with Rashford while Amorim was still the manager of Sporting CP.

A goal or assist every ninety minutes? It’s crazy reading some of the takes in here and then seeing stats like that.

Who honestly cares if he can't produce it for United? Couldn't give a melon about his stats at Barca, he was shite here for his last three years. Wouldn't want him back at United if he offered to play for 50c a week.

Christ, what a comment. Hope everything is okay with you, go take a walk or something, if the Rashford thread makes you so angry.

If you couldn't care less about what he does at Barca then it's not hard to avoid the thread about a Barcelona player

This thread is about Rashford’s performances with Barcelona. People are linking his last performances with us and that seem to be clouding their opinion over his season with Barcelona.

I’m not the only one who’s linking other stuff here.

The poster mentioned "takes" though. Assumed it was takes regarding United, if not well then my bad. He's obviously doing well for Barca and I'm pleased to see that, but that's where it ends.

I think there are many that simply can't forgive him for the nature of his exit.

He got made one of highest earners at the end of 2022/23, then by the mid-point of the following season, having been shite for much of that run, decided to go on the piss with his mate and call in sick for training ahead of a match.

He absolutely stank the place out in 2023/24, started 2024/25 with the same lackluster performances, got dropped along with Garnacho for apparent training issues, then while the latter just got on with it and quickly found himself back in the team, Rashford decided to do a sit-down interview stating that he wanted to leave.

No he was talking about the people here shitting on his season abroad meanwhile the actual club he's at seem quite happy with him, along with their fans which wouldn't be the case if he was indeed shite this season

Assuming the poster is me, I have not mentioned or argued anything regarding his United career right now.

We’re literally in the Marcus Rashford Barcelona thread. What do you want me to talk about in here?

La liga-19 games 3 goals
He is the same player he was here. Its been silent in here while hes been doing nothing
A touch disingenuous there. He’s played less than 13 games worth of minutes and on top of the three goals he has 8 assists. He’s obviously adding value outside of the goals he has scored. Whether he’s been good enough is another matter but you aren’t engaging in good faith here.

My bad I jumped to conclusions. Didn't realize he was still being criticized for his time at Barca, thought by takes you were referring to people not wanting him back. Carry on!

He's doing alright. The buy option figure is probably about right for a player performing as he is at his age.

Meh. The context is playing for a team that shits all over opposition teams most weekends and has scored 57 goals already this season. I’m sure every other Barca attacker has similar stats.

Not to mention that 8 goals by the end of January is by no definition a “good return” for a player who is supposed to be an elite goalscorer. At any club. Rasmus Hojlund has scored 9 goals so far this season.
Who has ever described Rashford as an elite goalscorer?

Clearly didn't have the stones to make it as a main man at a big club but seems to thrive as a sub player. Good for him. Hopefully they buy him.

Presumably whichever genius made him one of the best paid footballers in the world, when they signed off on his most recent contract.
Nobody then. He’s a winger. His job is to create and score. If he was shooting all the time and not creating for others that would be an issue for you too let’s face it. You don’t even watch him play.

I'm fine. There's only one of us here making up people and their opinions, then seemingly getting annoyed that they don't align with their own (hint: it's you).

Barcelona fans have every right to be happy with his performances.

Manchester United fans have every right to point out the similarities his performances for Barcelona have with the good seasons he had here, chiefly, that they lean heavily on condensed patches of "over-production" surrounded by fairly barren spells.

He's not a winger. He's a wide forward. Fancies himself as a player like Ronaldo, Mbappe or Messi. None of whom were wingers at the age that Rashford is now. He's certainly never tracked back like a winger in his career to date. I would be amazed if that has changed since his move to Spain. I've watched him play enough times to have a very well informed opinion of his strengths and weaknesses. Are you trying to argue they've changed during his stint with Barcelona?

Yes sure mate. Did you go for a walk yet?

Joint 4th most assists in la liga (6) with Valverde, but having played over 100 mins (1 extra full game and a bit) less than any of them

5 goals in 5.1 games (464 mins) in the champions league

He's doing great which is good for us because someone will want to buy him
