Marcus Rashford - Barcelona Watch

What's his workrate like with Barca? I got sick of him strolling around the pitch at United like he was too good to track back or put pressure on defenders (and in his last 2 seasons he definitely didn't have the G/A output to justify it).

He might still get away with it at Barca where they probably have 75% possession most games, but in the PL, teams can't afford to carry a passenger if he's not scoring goals (as Liverpool found out earlier this season with Salah)

Slightly better but still not enough. What goes against him also is the fact that Rafinha is very hard worker and more consistent than him.

I read that Carrick would want to bring back Rashford if he gets the job. Don’t do it Michael. He will get you sacked.

Barcelona still got massive financial problems, the stadium was delayed, estimate are they need revenue of €1bn just to break even. €3.5bn in debt. The ref bribery court case is still rumbling along.

They might want to sign Rashy or do a lot of other stuff, but it's probably impossible for them.

Moves one league goal ahead of Mount for the season. It'll be a close run thing.

And he’s now scored one less than Bruno and one less than Cunha.

Why do people constantly need to put players down. Rashford is clearly having a great season. You don’t have to be top four scorers in the league to be doing well, he’s hit 10 goals and 10 assists in January.

Presumably the same reason you felt the need to put Bruno and Cunha down.

And if you genuinely have no idea why Rashford's contribution to Manchester United over the last few years, at best, divides opinions then you need to pay more attention.

Yeah agreed very odd behaviour, he's done well and he'll maybe have had a career few could dream of when he calls it day 5 pots and 100+ goals for your boyhood team, potentially a league winners medal with one of the biggest clubs in the world not bad for what some would call a championship player, I am glad he isn't at United any more for him and for us because it's clear it was only going to go one way

I’m not putting them down. Bruno is having a great season. Cunha started poorly but looks great under Carrick.

Rashford is a local lad, who has done massive for the local community and has given us some great memories. His issue seems to be being given a big wage, falling out with our worst ever managers and having some clips where he isn’t sprinting.

I certainly never thought his attitude was an issue. Neither does the England manager, the Barce manager or the Villa manager. He’s been great for all three of those teams in the last twelve months and still people need to slag him off.

He’s great! What a player we have come through our academy, it’s been great to see him contribute so much.

He wasn't great for Villa. He was alright, but that was about the extent of it.

Nor has he been great for England. He barely even plays for the national team, and wasn't even in the squad for the last major tournament, precisely because he was so crap for us in the season running up to it.

You're stretching it to say he's been great for Barcelona, but I'll least concede that he's been better there than he has anywhere else since Ten Hag's first season.

You don’t think he's shown any attitude problems because you seem to have selective amnesia about him spending 18 months barely trying, and especially about the fact he decided skipping training ahead of a game for a piss-up in Belfast was a good idea, about 6 months after he'd been given a bumper contract that made him one of our top earners.

Some people have really really low standards. Worst manager ever, what a load of BS, he was gash for 3 season before that. Hes finished at top level.

Saw him yesterday, he cant finish to save his life. Lingard would get 10+10 in Barcelona team. They are creating chance after chance, he should have had much more.

I don’t understand how.

Why does it matter to fans how much a player earns?
Because it has a knock-on effect to all the rest of the squad. How do you think it looked to the other players when Rashford was ambling around the pitch getting paid 300k per week?
It also makes it difficult to sell them if we want to.
Theres a multitude of reasons. Not caring about it is how many clubs find themselves in financial problems

I don’t understand how.

Why does it matter to fans how much a player earns?

Because we know there's not a bottomless pit of money to just pay any player whatever, and that massively overpaying even one player can affect making the team better by making it harder to attract or retain actual stars.

Fans want their highest earners to be their best performers. They are understandably bothered by players given astronomical wages, only to feck the team off to go on the piss.

You’re right hell let’s just give everyone massive contracts, who cares, there won’t be any financial implications to that at all.

He missed one chance that he should have done better with, had one blocked from a fantastic block from the Elche player and scored the next..... Albeit it was 3 feet out. The whole Barca team yesterday missed about 10+ chances, think someone said in the La Liga thread they had a Xg of over 6.

Rashfords time here was done but 3 years? Come on. 22/23 he was borderline world class. He was poor in 23/24 as was everyone, then then was checked out at the start of 24/25 due to his falling out with Ten Hag and Amorim. He was good for Villa, and has been very good for Barca. That's 1 season before he left that he was gash for.

With Rashford it has always been a question of is his head in the right place. At United it obviously got to a point where for multiple different reasons, it was no longer in the right place. He's a quality player when happy though. When a team is a complete disaster, it's hard to pull yourself up above that and Rashford is definitely one that struggled in those periods. Class in 19/20 and 20/21, struggled in 21/22, class in 22/23, struggled the next year. Not exactly anything dramatic that.

- Shaw behind him
- a good right winger to compliment him
- a girlfriend
- a steady manager
- a strong leader to help him on the pitch
- to be loved
- to have an arm around his shoulder

Athlete in needing to be used correctly and in the right state of mind to perform shocker

Terrible decision to bring him back, hopefully the news are unsubstantiated and it's too early for Carrick to even think that far, he needs to focus on the games and the players he has and that's it, leave the personnel management to the DoF

Just got another assist, off the corner, to set off another week of G+A debate in here

You have to understand, whilst Flick, Emery, Tuchel, Ole all love him and his teammates all talk about how hard he works and all love him - Amorim dropped him so he’s a bad egg.

Should have had another with the De Jong chance but Barca's finishing has been woeful recently, tbf that might be a bit harsh their player got a decent block on it. Sad state of affairs when Barca vs Albacete is a better watch then Arsenal vs Chelsea.....

good....30m in our coffers that is even more with him being a homegrown player

You have to understand, having someone who can get assists from corners will not work in the premier league.
We never scored from set pieces while he was here. We're actually good at them now

You have to understand, he got a contract for £300k a week and decided, after months of poor form, that skipping training ahead of a match to go on the piss in Belfast was a good idea.

You have to understand, he'd been shite for at least 12 months, got dropped for performances in training, but couldn't even bring himself to match Garnacho's application to get back into the team, and instead chose to sit-down, mid-season, and tell the world he didn't want to stay at Manchester United.

You have to understand, anyone with functioning eyes that watched his last 18 months at Manchester United could see he absolutely was not someone who "works hard".

He should have scored one or two in rhe first half already, and Barca fans despaired at his finishing once again.
Finishing aside, it was another game where Raphinha's absence was clearly felt.

With PSR going, and SCR coming in, the advantages of selling a homegrown player has practically gone now. They'll be accounted as any other player.

I wouldn’t be surprised if you heard noises about him coming back, but potentially as a negotiation tactic as Barca are going to seek further discounts.

He is on 10 goals + 13 assists in 1903 mins, averaging 82 mins per G+A. Best thing for him is to take a pay cut and join Barca, he will be used as a squad player which is good for both club and him.

I hope we get the fully agreed fee, without any discount.

If we can't sell him for £26mill after the insanely brilliant season he's had at Barcelona, then you really have to wonder.
