Marcus Rashford - Barcelona Watch

Good goal.

Hopefully this means maybe more buyers in the summer.

If the option to buy clause expires, I say, jack-up the price. Barca love playing stupid games. Once Rashford is faced with the reality of bomb squading, I'd then offer loan with obligation to buy to everyone else but, buy-only for Barca.

He's a backup. Don't think Barca will be that bothered tbh. He has contributed even with his flaws and this deal has been good for most parties. He's about to win his first league title and play in a UCL QF with a realistic chance of making it to the semis. He's also probably gonna play a fair amount of minutes at the world cup. For Barca if he's willing to slash his wages and come on a cheap he'd represent a good market opportunity. If not, they'll simply pass on him cause they already have a world class starter.

That's fine. As far as has been reported, he's been happy to slash his wages for them and they've agreed terms. They just don't want to pay £26m, which is very cheap, especially for a big team's very capable back up. Heck we'll be looking to bolster our squad for next season, if we make europe. I guarantee you, we won't get a player of Rashford's quality on the left wing for less than double that amount. Let them send him back. Someone else will take him.

The club should be making noises like they're happy the 30m clause has expired, he's clearly worth a lot more than that and are overjoyed at the success of the loan and can't wait to see Rashford back at Old Trafford next season.

It'll get taken down by copyright in short order but here

Good goal. Hopefully he gets his move made permanent. Would be helpful if Barcelona and Leowandoski could agree a new contract. Not sure how much Julian Alvarez would cost as a new no9, but he won't be cheap.

Did not watch the match but saw the highlights. He had some great chances which could have put Barcelona ahead in the tie. Seems to shoot right down the middle. Had a good free kick which hit the bar but again through the middle. Hope Barcelona do pay and buy him on a permanent basis. Do not want him or Sancho at the club.

Watched the game. Abit of a mixed one from Rashford. Made some good runs, made a few decent link up plays and was on the end of numerous decent chances but it really boils down to end product, which was lacking. At this level he had to have taken at least one of his chances.
Though, to be fair, he was certainly more involved in the game than Lewandowski.

But ,overall, I wasn't overly impressed with Barca all night. They pass the ball around well but they're really lacking that edge, and they can't solely rely on Yamal.

There was one point where he had lost the angle when going around the keeper and still took the shot rather than cutback to his teammate who was free and that would have been the equaliser.

All I thought is, he hasn't learnt.

His performance summed up:

"He played well, but he's not Raphinha"

I’m not convinced they are going to sign him. They will if they can negotiate the price down and they may use the player to aid this but we should stand firm on the price agreed with them as it’s ridiculously low.

If they don’t sign him then there will be definitely other takers who will pay more.

Don’t want him back either - his time at Utd is done.

There have always been clubs that will pay the transfer fee. It’s the commitment to a multi year contract on significant wages that’s been the issue.

United didn’t want him, Villa didn’t want him, it’s looking like Barcelona aren’t exactly going to move heaven and earth to keep him and I’d be very surprised if United want him back.

At what point does that, by itself, become a red flag for suitors?

The noise around him online is to accuse critics of having an agenda and shout ‘goal involvements’ stats until you’re blue in the face, but if two successive loan trials end in the club taking a pass on making it permanent then that says something.

He’s either going to be here next season leaking that he’s turning up early for training occasionally when he gets criticised for performances, or it’ll be a loan elsewhere. Clubs aren’t going to look at a player effectively rejected in his last two loan spells and decide to jump in and make it a permanent transfer deal. He’s going to be loaned out until his contract expires and then I wouldn’t rule out retirement for him.

Talk Barcelona no longer want him at any price.
Expected and worrying. But also could be a tactic to lower his price for the sale. They want him on a second loan before making it permanent according to a article i read. Going to catch a lot of flak for his performance against Ath Madrid.

Feck me, we’re just asking for €30m. Thai is ridiculous. They don’t want him.

He's not been very good. It's as simple as that.

He's always capable of a moment of brilliance, or even a short patch of prolific "goal contributions", but he's just not a player worth the wages he's on.

Add in that Barca are fecked financially, and even him willing to reduce his wages significantly probably isn't enough for them to make the investment.

When we allowed him to go on loan last summer I really felt we'd missed our best chance to sell and would end up loaning him again in summer 2026 too.

There is just no reason for him to take a pay cut to accept a permanent transfer. And there's no reason for a club to pay a transfer fee for him when they know they can force us into endless loans.

He's also a year older and every year that passes he becomes an even less attractive proposition for clubs to buy especially as he's already past his prime.

To get him sold last summer we would have had to threaten to put him in the reserves for a year if he didn't accept a permanent transfer and made it clear that we flat out refuse to loan him. With the World Cup this summer he knew he had to play to make the squad so that was our one chance to force him to find a club to go to on a permanent deal.

If we sell him this summer I'll hold my hands up and say the club got it right. But my gut feeling is if you don't use a threat of keeping him but not playing him then we'll be in the same boat every summer. This summer the threat of having him train with the reserves next season is not nearly as powerful as it won't be a world cup year so he's not got a England place to fight for.

Id rather not have him train with the reserves. Passing on his attitude to them, takes one bad apple to spoil the lot.

If we dont sell him or loan him in the summer because of his picking and choosing, id be telling him to stay at home for the season, his services aren't required in the dressing or training room.

Source for this? As he’s agreed a contract with them and they’re trying to get United to budge on the fee, from Fabrizio about an hour ago says different.

If it's Barcelona truly turning him down rather than game-playing then it might help us - he can't refuse to move to anyone but them like Antony did if Barca straight-up don't want him. He'll then have to decide if he wants to play or if he's essentially done after the World Cup and sit-out his contract.

I think (perhaps naively) he'll choose to play rather than just collect the money which gives us the chance to work-out a deal that works for everyone. But if it's Barca playing games then the saga will continue all summer long

In my opinion Rashford has done enough in this campaign to atleast warrant strong interest from a host of good clubs, home and abroad, if the move to Barcelona doesn't materialise, which seems likely at the present time.

I can see strong interest from Italy for example.
Like many other players who've left us in recent times, I can comfortably envisage Rashford being a overwhelming success in Serie A.

What it generally boils down to though is Rashford's personal preference and the acknowledgement of the fact that he'll very likely have to accept a wage cut.

He dug his heels in admirably in the summer in orchestrating a loan move to Barca and all parties, at that time, got a decent deal. We got a fair share of his wage off the books for the current campaign, Rashford got his dream move and Barcelona got a decent stand in /back up versatile forward.

But now I believe he needs to be alot more opened minded in where he plies his trade next.
He surely knows he has no future here, something in which I hope the club have made abundantly clear to his representatives.
I just hope that his next move is a permanent one.

He can still dig his heels this summer in orchestrating a move to Barca for the amount that Barca want to pay for him.

Given he went to Villa I also think he'll opt for playing v sitting collecting money.

More likley just a negotiating tactic to reduce his price as they seem to only view him as a very nice to have backup.

Yeah maybe, but the rumour is they have informed him that they don't see him as a fit any longer , and there is also talk that he's open to returning now

If you employ Carrick it feels inevitable that he'd come back, look great for 6 months, you have a rough patch, Carrick gets sacked, Rashford looks rubbish again and wants to leave. Stuck with him until the contract runs out.
