I do worry that he plays through injuries too often. Hopefully he's fine but from the sound of things he won't be able to play the full 90mins tonight.

There's no point of playing him through this injury. It's been the case for more than a season. He's the one we should be building our team around.

Such a waste of a medical staff. Just get the surgery done if needed and let him recover.

He's going to frustrate until he matures but who was the last player to hit back to back 20 goal seasons for us? Great goal. Might hit 25 this season if he keeps it up, which would be a great return.

Wrap Rashford in cotton wool. Even injured he's operating above the level of our front three.

Rashford is actually my favourite player of the current side but I'm hating watching him play. He's still got quality in moments of course, and is the only reliable goalscorer amongst all of our forwards. Which is why Ole sends him onto the pitch in a wheelchair and an iron lung.

But he reminds me of watching the kid in the playground who just wants to skill everyone out and score a worldy every time he gets the ball. Agonising watching how bad his decision making is and how low his energy is. So painful to watch. I wish he'd been suspended for next week too. He desperately needs a couple of weeks off.

Clearly not fit, ridiculous that he stayed on as long as he did but took his goal superbly.

Did well to control Lindelof's superb long pass, then finish past their keeper. Shot from an angle not that far away. Free-kick from distance was rubbish. Got us into trouble once, requiring Lindelof to save us.

Imagine what this kid can do fully fit. Last season before he got injured at Wolves he was electric, absolutely world class

He’s a world class player in my eyes. Was great before he started getting the back problems last season which we overplayed him through and made worse. Was also looking brilliant before the shoulder injury that he’s waiting for surgery on and the ankle injury we are again playing him through and making worse.
that touch, control and finish is something not many can do when it’s as vital as it was tonight and he did it carrying two injuries! We are waaaaaaaaaaay too harsh on him.

Never seen it so blatantly obvious before but tonight he was nowhere near fit enough to play a game of football. Should never have started. Crazy decision to play him in that condition. Yes he scored but apart from that he just wasn't in it.

Sexy goal! I’d really like to see Rashford rested for a few weeks if we could get away with it. I think he looks shattered and he has done for ages. A good man manager would give him and bruno some kind of a break at this stage even if they don’t want it. Like Ole surely sees all this playing injured stuff but he keeps playing him in every single game almost in defiance of that. If we left him off 2 games he could get 8/9 days off and in reality he probably needs a lot longer.

Fun fact, Mane - who the Caf used to obsess over - has 60 goals over the past 3 seasons and Rashford has 55 (I'm including this season).

That touch and finish

Start him on the bench v spurs, then rest him in the return leg?

From the other thread.

Here's an exhaustive list of players who have scored and assisted more goals over the last two seasons in the top 5 leagues, the associated domestic cups and European competitions:
  • Lewandowski - 114
  • Messi - 100
  • Mbappé - 87
  • Ronaldo - 79
  • Lukaku - 73
  • Immobile - 71
  • Müller - 71
  • Haaland* - 70
  • Kane - 69
  • Werner - 68
  • Sancho - 68
  • Benzema - 68
  • Salah - 66
  • Sterling - 65
  • Bruno* - 65
  • Rashford - 65
* Domestic goals scored in Austria and Portugal are not included

That's the company Rashford is looking to keep up with and doing so admirably. Above him you have the two greatest players ever, the current de facto best player in the world, the consensus two future heirs to the world game, and then a pretty tight pack of players.

He's basically been as a good as anyone else, and realistically could have been as high as fifth in the world, competing with Cristiano, if he hadn't done the right thing and handed over penalty and free kick taking duties to Bruno in good faith.

Good luck to anyone who thinks Marcus Rashford is the area to improve at Old Trafford. People need to go and look at the output of many of our forwards during our golden years, or even many of the so-called greats during the 90s and early 2000s. He's going head-to-head with Rooney at this age. In the seasons they turned 22 and 23, Rooney scored or assisted 70 goals. Rashford currently has 65 (with a maximum of 13 games to go), despite the fact that everyone seems to believe he has been injured for over a year, been "shit" individually and playing for what many regard as a "crap" team.

Rashford is the one of most valuable players in the world for good reason. The only players younger than him on this list are Haaland, Mbappe and Sancho. Here's arguably the third or fourth best and most productive attacking player in the world in his age bracket or younger. If he was at any other club, we would be creaming ourselves at the thought of signing him.

I still remember the day I read a post on here lamenting that we didn't send him out on loan and get Haller in for him...

Edit - Accidentally had Bruno and Fernandes, when one was supposed to be Rashford!

I know, but we are pretty much toothless without him & Bruno, since we have an injured Martial who's having an off season!! and a young Greenwood who's still learning, and a past his best Cavani who was supposed to b a cover for striker role, and he is doing the best he can to offer some extra firing power.

The issue is the drop off when Bruno & Rashford don't play is too much. We rely on them far too much.

He'll obviously start against Spurs, but I hope Ole rests him in the return leg vs Granada.

Worried about the long term effects of playing him injured, and he's not likely to get this summer off either.

This is still quite likely to be his best goalscoring season, which is remarkable considering he has been taken off penalties and has been playing with injuries in many games.

I'm split by the goal. He did everything right and can't fault him for that, but the defending . He's not going to get opportunities like that in the PL too often.

He gets plenty of those chances in PL.

Got to commend him for his output this season. Another 20 goals in a barely functioning attack, seemingly carrying an injury the whole time. He hasn't really looked fully healthy since late 2019 but he continues to get important goals for the team. Can only hope he gets some time to rehabilitate as necessary, but with the Euros around the corner and us never resting him, i doubt that'll happen.

It’s something myself and @roonster09 have been banging on about a lot. The likes of Son, Mane, Sterling et. al are simply not better than Rashford. Very similar levels with Rashford being the youngest by a decent amount. Very much grass is greener stuff from our fans.

We have to win some big trophies, till then even our best performing players will not be rated as highly as they should be.

People talk about his decision making, running with the ball aimlessly and all that, he still averages more dribbles and at better success rate than the players caf rate very highly.

I am going to beg him for my forgiveness that I have him at 6 rating for the season.
He has been much better than that that´s for sure. He should get a plus 1 just for playing through the pain barrier for us game after game.

Same. We've gone full Liverpool 1990s, abusing our young stars out of desperation.

I just hope Rashford's body holds up better than Michael Owen's.

He does look like he's clearly carrying an injury, having said that I think his last two performances have been much better than some of his previous ones this season. He still has the tendency to pick the wrong option at times but I don't think he's forcing it quite the same. Fantastic goal last night, one moment of quality for the team.

It's happened literally once before, against Sheffield United a few months ago. And that was a diagonal run. No PL defender is letting him run unchallenged in a straight line at goal from a centre back's long ball.

That was a very good post from @TMDaines.

And yup couldn't agree more. Not to mention that the likes of Mane have played in a far more fluid, attacking team. I always found the love-in on here for Mane to be very odd considering Rashford gets so much stick. For me, Rashford is a better player and would have done better than Mane in that Liverpool team.

I think he should be assessed, play vs spurs (even if it's 60 minutes)

Then rest completely vs Granada and Burnley and then look to be back vs Leeds

Check how many 1v1s he scored and missed, almost same pattern.

There was one video on Bruno which was about the chances he created, it was like Rashford's misfiring compilation with so many 1v1s.

I don't think Rashford should play against Spurs.

We are nine points ahead of fifth placed Chelsea. Unless we have an almighty collapse we are going to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Finishing second doesn't really matter, as much as the TV companies would like us to believe it so they can persuade viewers there's massive stakes riding on our matches. We finished second under Mourinho and it was a springboard to sweet FA. Recruitment will decide whether we can go forward as a team. If we finish second and get the equivalent of Grant, Dalot and Fred this summer we won't be going anywhere.

Rashford should not be risked unless there's a genuine chance of us dropping out of the top four. We should save his legs for the Europa League knock out ties.

I agree with you but I don't think our club will do that unfortunately even if long term it's better for us

Realistically the best bet is playing spurs then missing the next two games

He's a great player and a great person, can't wait to see him in a proper fluid system which I hope Ole or whoever can implement over the next couple seasons.

There's 8 matches remaining: Tottenham, Burnley, Leeds, Liverpool, Villa, Leicester, Fulham and Wolves.

It's hardly done and dusted with a 9 point gap to 5th.

You're right but its unlikely that the teams fighting for fourth are going to go on an eight game winning streak while we lose, lose and lose. The only consistent team in the league this year has been City. Even if we drop points, its hard to see the other teams around us not doing the same. Especially as pretty much everyone is the walking wounded.
