Marcus Rashford | to redeem or not?

Anthony’s much better than people give him credit for. Written off way too early here.

No he wasn't.

Good technical ability - his physicality wasn't up to standards. No acceleration, no pace, wasn't very agile and couldn't turn players inside out, was quite weak strength wise.

Doesn't have the smartness/positional play and off the ball movement to compensate for that.

There are certain archtypes of players that just won't meet standards in the PL and he's one of them.

Pure technical ability isn't enough - see Wirtz, Kagawa etc.

I disagree, he was 22 when he came to us and had a decent enough first season, far better than say Amad this year for example.

Then that was pretty much it for him, the scandal in Brazil, the forced time off fecked his second season and we gave up on him. The ridiculous meme-ing of United players didn’t help either, the difference with the treatment of Wirtz is incredible.

Moments like the goals v City and Barca showed me there was decent enough player in there. He’d have been a good Premier League player had he stayed in the league. And he absolutely wasn’t “weak”.

I think they might yeah.

But Rashford's done well in the end, despite that period where he was very out of favour. Strong strart and strong finish, you'd hope all in all would be enough to convince Barca to find the money.

Time shall tell though, they are eternally skint so expeditures are never easy decisions for them.

That's fair.

He's a great option for Barcelona only because he seems content being a backup option who comes into the side whenever they need him. In that role, he'll be a good signing because it's an interesting and more direct option to bring off the bench. As a regular starter though, he's an eyesore in this Barcelona side. Even their defenders are more technically skilled than he is.

Hmm I don't know, Cunha would be deadly in that team. Mbuemo has fallen off but AFCON seems to have done a lot of the work there to be fair.

Cunha has played in Spain before, and he evidently didn’t have the impact Rashford has. But I wasn’t really trying to argue hypotheticals. Just talking about what they’ve put up for the teams they’re currently playing for.

I think Rashford has had a better season than any of our attackers

For some reason his teammates really like him. Players like Raphinha and Yamal are absolutely chuffed whenever he scores.

What really amuses me about all the discourse around him is that he's been given no adaptation period or even allowed to have a poor season because it would actually make sense. Been banished from his boyhood club, new teammates, new country, new language etc but because the lad is actually fecking good he just gets on with it and produces when called upon. This isn't even close to how good he can be, if Barca take the gamble and he fully shifts through the gears they'll be smiling. He's better than what he's shown this season, even though i don't think he knows that himself. He could've easily, easily scored 20 goals this season with some of the chances he's had despite the pity minutes he gets.

Good for him! That’s some strike and he’s won a league title with Barcelona. Hope he gets his permanent move there.

He's been the best forward on our books for years now so that's not surprising. Present players included.

His United teammates love him too. He's generally well liked by everyone he plays with. The problem is he's on 300k a week and the club decided to push him out combined with years of United failure killed his motivation here (yes also his fault obviously, but United played their part).

Annoys me that whenever he has a good game everyone talks about how the club ruined him and that he should have left us years ago. F that! He wasn’t in the same position as Mainoo where a manager was out to get him. He’s on 300k a week ffs. He was just crap here by no fault of anyone but himself. Despite that we helped him move to the only other club he’d consider, Barca, and now they want some type of discount despite him suddenly performing well again? He owes us. Not the other way around. I don’t care how well liked he is. I’m glad he’s gone and hope we get what was agreed or he can go back to the bomb squad exile next season.

. If Barcelona is interested in Rashford than Im the new Pope. Where would he even play? He’’s not good enough

Do you admit from your above quotation that you might not always get it right when it comes to Rashford Mr Benedict?

Good to see him winning league title, that free kick was almost like the one he scored against Celta Vigo in Europa league.

Hopefully we get better deal this summer for him.

Well it sounds like they don’t want him. Or at least don’t want him permanently.

You’re right mate - after you posted last summer that Barce defo didn’t want Rashford as he wasn’t good enough - there was never any clear evidence to prove you wrong.

That's harsh, we've had plenty of players struggle for form over the last few years under various struggling managers like Ole, Ten Hag and Amorim trying to implement ill suited, shit and/or nonsensical systems. So it won't have all been entirely his own fault.

And that's without mentioning the right wing gutter media running a smear campaign against him, who knows how much he's let that get into his head.

Glad for him but also sore about the deluge of 'United holding him back' articles which will inevitably emerge

The funny thing is, that if he played like this in the pl this season and someone wanted to buy him he would cost 80+ million €. Absolute mindblowing that now you guys have to hope to even get that small amount in question.
Blows my mind, really.

Damn shame he’s lifting his first ever league title and it’s not with us. :( Congrats, Marcus.

What’s funnier is if we do sign a left winger this summer they will almost certainly have fewer G/A contributions than what he has accumulated this season too.

League champion, shame that it wasn't with us but really happy for him.

Hopefully this helps push his deal with them over the line, if not then I have zero doubts he'll have suitors this summer

Happy for the lad! Turned it around and came out a winner...
