Marcus Rashford | to redeem or not?

He’s still a local lad who gave has played for us hundreds of times and been a big part of the club post Fergie.
Which makes it even worse that he got paid, quit on the club, refused to press, refused to challenge for headers, skipped training to go on the piss and regularly briefed against his own teammates and managers to enhance his own reputation.

Ended badly sure. Why forget all the good times?

I have fond memories, and don't want him back.

That's alright isn't it?

Why do you think he had tough times? United forced him out and the fans were not on his side. Dont expect to be thanked now
I'm actually much more fond of Rashford than most seem to be but I think the frustration would be that his tough times were hugely helped by a lack of effort from him.

Utd aren't blameless but unless he's going to take accountability for his part then he's best just focusing on the the positives of which Utd did loads for him.

With that said it's a shame that he feels there is such an adversarial relationship with the club who he's spent most of his life at.

We can be happy for him, whilst also wanting him to move on

We all know that’s for the best.

This. This is the entire thing.

I have nothing but sadness for how it all worked out with him and United. I'll always support him in an England shirt, and honestly always support him in general (til we meet in the CL :))

United fans need to get over themselves. A bunch of things (injury, Ole, bad managers, Woodward and wages etc) conspired to wreck what should have been a great career here.

All that said, Barca also need to stop being absolutely knobgoblins and pay the absurdly good price for him. And if they refuse, we absolutely do not bend, just toss that ball back into Rashford's camp. He is 100% worth more than 30m euros, and if he can't convince one of the biggest clubs in the world where apparently he's universally loved to pay it then he needs to get better agents.

He forced himself out with his attitude and performance
We can be honest here, it's not that hard to accept our culpability in this. When you choose not to it just looks like sour grapes....

Never change the dramatics and histrionics guys

'Come on lads, just hate him a little bit more with me!'
Groundhog day gonna groundhog...

? When did that happen?
Multple times, the most recent I can remember - his camp gave a long brief to Pete Hall, a journalist who was followed by DNMay Sports Management (Rashford's brother)

Marcus Rashford has been struggling with “bullying” from former Manchester United players and the media, according to the forward’s camp.

“Very different. The criticism coming his way is an onslaught. It is bullying. Supporters believe what senior ex-players say, which only makes it worse."
The club have spent £100m on central strikers and Marcus is back out wide, as a facilitator. And he is doing his job in that regard. It isn’t his fault the chances aren’t being put away. When someone else misplaces a pass it does not get mentioned, but when it is Marcus it’s different,” one source said.
There continues to be a feeling that Rashford is a victim of his own versatility. His 30-goal haul two seasons ago came as a central option, the main man, before he was moved out to different flanks once more. Some have questioned what his best position is. But is that down to the player? Or the manager(s)?

Does Erik ten Hag’s style of play bring the best out in Rashford? Has any player really excelled for long periods under the Dutchman?

These are the questions that bother those closest to Rashford.
Three for one. Pundits, teammates and manager at fault.

You also had Luckhurst - who people distrust on transfer rumours for good reason, but he wouldn't libel himself and his editors/legal wouldn't let him - saying that Rashford's camp emailed him abuse of players in his position.
A PARTING shot from one of Marcus Rashford’s relatives was that Ruben Amorim’s press conferences were better than the matches. A valid point, but Amorim had Rashford’s number a year ago and the Barcelona loanee typified the "entitlement culture" at Man Utd.
Rashford’s relative occasionally sent this correspondent abusive emails complaining about articles
Those close to Rashford bad-mouthed Mason Greenwood, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga.
What did those three have in common? They were rivals for Rashford’s role. The Rashford relative derided Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, nastily nicknamed Ralf Rangnick “Specs” and panned Erik ten Hag before slaughtering Amorim.

It's The Sun newspaper  If you believe all that then fair enough.

It would be the easiest slam dunk libel case imaginable if it wasn't true. There's no hedging, no 'a source', no 'a first-team player'. And every newspaper - even the shit ones - have a legal team. Andy Mitten also talked about it on UWS.

And Luckhurst said he discussed it with the United heirarchy during a lunch between them and the Manchester pack of journalists.
United were approaching a transition period under new chief executive Richard Arnold. Among the various trivial matters discussed, the topic turned to the dressing room issues.
I flagged some abusive emails that I continued to receive from the relative of a player, citing it as an example of the toxic culture within the squad and the need for tangible changes. Whether the staff member passed on the information he was furnished with is unknown. But, as Jose Mourinho once said, the problems are still there.

Always a circus with Marcus. He could definitely still be a good player for united but I really hope he gets his move to Barca for everyone's sake.

No matter how much is from him, how much is his entourage and how much is gleeful ABU/Media stirring, this is exactly the circus we've (nearly) managed to get rid of at United.
Hopefully we get him sold early on in the window without any of this bleeding into pre-season.

Not a Blackpool fan mate?

Oh no the guy we kicked out 18 months didn't thank us for him now reaching the world cup. Let's all throw our toys out of our prams and cry.

Unlikely.

See.

Do people support players and personalities or a club? This guy has used a massive moment for him to take a snide, petty shot at the club. Why back him if you're a United fan? He's a gimp.

You're not supporting the club, you're supporting the owners.

If Rashford were on 120K a week he'd still be here and used in all the promotional material that we put out. He's been moved on because of his wages just like we've done with Casemiro and tried to do with Bruno. I support this club and want us to have the best squad possible to win games.

I'll never understand the obsession about having a lower wage bill. This club and our fans generate more than enough revenue for the club that having a few players on high wages shouldn't be a problem. And they will make more with us being in the Champions League and them increasing ticket prices, displacing long time season ticket holders for premium seating, raising the prices on merchandise and concessions. Maybe if we didn't have to pay over 800M in interest charges for the privilege of being owned by the Glazers we'd be in a better shape financially.

I'm one of those 'support 2 clubs' weirdos that seem to enrage proper fans! :o
Born in Manchester, always supported United but grew up with a Dad who I saw once a fortnight and would only take me to Blackpool games. United and Blackpool have only played twice in 50 years, so there's always been enough distance to follow both without much of a conflict...but those matches when Blackpool were in the PL battling relegation and United were chasing a title was an odd feeling!

That's how anyone not bitter took it

He was on the outside of the England picture when he left, his loan spells brought him back into Tuchels plans
He didn't need to make that post thanking everyone else. Need to get rid

Player stinks the place out and falls out with coach and thanks his next two managers and international manager for helping him find form.

Who are you expecting him to thank from United?

It's a curious one because I don't begrudge him thanking the teams where he turned up and played well.

What I find weird is the "When things got tough"... As if he didn't have any responsibility for why things got tough.

He knew what he was doing, if he was down, so was the club and he was partly a reason for the club and him being down.

No one expected him to sing praises about the club but taking the names of all the managers and clubs just to stir the hornet's nest

He could have just kept quiet, it's not like he won the world cup itself. But instagram and tiktok generation of players and fans are cancer to society.

He got the moves to these clubs due to his training at United. Made one of the highest ever earners at the club when he truly did not deserve it.

At least now it is in the open for cultist fans of players. He can issue any number of clarifications, but he knew exactly what he was doing.

When something smells it probably stinks and this clown just proved all the early naysayers right. All that money and zero maturity. But people will see the apology and think someone didn't tell him to do it. C'mon.

such an unnecessary drama.
It was. But not surprising to see people who dislike him jump on it immediately. Why the hell would he thank anyone at Man Utd when he's not played for us this season or the back end of last? It was playing for Villa that meant Tuchel called him back into the squad.

If he was retiring or something then that's different.

Its a breakup that suits both parties. No need for more than that. Hope he does well, and we do better without him.

Yep. His teammates value him highly at whichever team he's been at and even the younger age groups at Man Utd but he's a cancer or bad in the dressing room.

Let's not go overboard shall we?

What he did wrong was related to him slacking off due to his own issues and getting himself into trouble because of that. Nothing to do with being a bad influence or not likeable.

Isn’t that the same with anyone though? You can be struggling with something in your life. You can work to turn that around but you still surely thank those who helped you get through that difficult period as well? I suspect you’d be a lot more critical if he’d posted a self-congratulatory post instead.

Don’t know why anyone would expect him to thank United. We want rid of him.

The post is a bit petty from him really, but it would have been weird to thank us. He should have just steered clear of it altogether.

Either way, not sure why he could possibly be resentful towards us. He had all the chances in the world and lived on borrowed time far longer here than he would have at any other club.

Absolute nothing burger.

He is entitled to celebrate being back in the picture for his country (I'd worry if otherwise) and that clearly is the result of those who have helped him transition from out to in.

What would people rather see? "And also thanks to United for loaning me so I had any chance of making it"?

I have no beef with him.
