Marcus Rashford | to redeem or not?

Not too fussed about him staying, really don't get all the drama surrounding it. Would not have been my preference, but if he tries I'll support him

Instead we are hoping Carrick and co can work miracles with a 27 year old player who's out of touch with what the modern game demands at the highest level from wide players. I.e. working your bollocks off on and off the ball, tracking back, pressing etc.

Just watch Khasa for PSG, he tracks back the opposition winger or fullback on his side all the way to his own goal. That level of commitment and work for the cause is infectious and get the team and fans behind you.

Rashford? Not a chance of any of that.

Somehow you always know you will be disappointed by Rashford's decision making in those crucial moments where great players set themselves apart from good players ...
 
(Looking in from the outside) INEOS and tbf (whisper)Amorim(whisper) sorted out the dickheads in the squad and the whole team looks a far happier place than it has been for years.

I just hope Carrick is not naive and keeps a very close eye on Rashford, the first signs of him being a dickhead or slacking off need to be stamped out asap.

Giving the credit to the wrong person there. The only reason the place is far happier then it has been in years is because where actually winning games now, something Amorim was allergic too. If he was still here he'd be digging out are youth players, telling us we need to suffer more all whilst languishing in mid table obscurity. Highly doubt we'd still be in a "happy place" if he was still here regardless of the team dynamics.

Yep people said the same when we had periods of good form under Ole, no doubt most winning teams are good places to be. Amorim made everyone life way harder than it needed to be, he likely caused the majority of the issues we saw on the pitch directly + I bet that dressing room was the worst we've ever had post SAF. Finishing 15th seems to somehow have been normalised on here, it is mindboggling shit.

I don't think anyone on here thinks that Rashford is or ever was a great player

If he actually stays, it will be interesting to see. Could be only the third (?) time he's played under a 'proper' midfield (Pogba, Matic, Herrera and Casemiro, Eriksen, Bruno) in his whole career and both of those times were very short lived. Shame he's a shadow of the player he was during that amazing run under late Mourinho and early Ole though.
 
Be ready for another barcelona offer at the end of the window :lol:

The drama is that hes shown hes unreliable. That he is happy to not put in the work when things aren't going his way. Thats hes mentally weak.

He performs well enough and what do we do in a years time? New contract? New contract on the same pay? Ask him to take a pay cut (that he almost certainly won't agree to). Its just kicking the can down the road. Like it or not, he needs to go. Too much water under the bridge and there will be a problem if he stays eventually.

Any contract offer would be a pay cut, so what do you care if you know he wont accept it?
 
I wish he was just a tiny bit more crap so we had a slim chance of signing him on loan.

But I have become more at peace/accepting that he will get another crack at it this season. Evidently his salary is too much for other clubs, and to be honest - I'd rather we keep him and hope he can find some form rather than him going out on loan again with us still paying a chunk of his wage.

If we see a Rashford who has a chip on his shoulder that no clubs have seriously gone in for him, and he's committed to show his worth, then he could end up being a good asset this season.

All I've ever wanted from him is effort off the ball. He can be very frustrating with his decision making on the ball, but you tend to accept that with a player of his style. But please man, run back and put a shift in.

Mate, he didn’t even do that for his dream club, Barca. He had been grovelling all over them (love letters to Yamal etc) to get a gig with them, then, when he does get the gig, he still can’t be arsed. Hence; Barca said “no thanks”, we’ll take Gordon instead, for more than double the cost. Will be interesting to see where he ends up. If he can’t see the writing on the wall after Sancho and Garnacho, he’s thicker than I thought he was.

I never said any of that.

Just use him whenever Carrick feels like he can make an impact and sell him next summer, or let him leave on a free. Hence why I don't get the drama. What is the alternative here?

Transparent penny pinching from the club and I'm sick of it. The fans lost faith in Rashford a long time ago and the first sight of him refusing to press will immediately turn things toxic again.
 
I'm ready for the Rashford redemption arc. I reckon he'll score some important goals for us this season.
 
Feels familiar. Midway through his Barcelona loan spell, were we not reading how impressed they were at his attitude and demeanour then to? Apparently it meant they were convinced to sign him to a permanent contract. I forget how that turned out.

It turned out with him scoring a glorious free kick in the El Clasico to win the league. Then leaving with no reports of a single attitude issue.

Well, that’s great. I just struggle to believe that these are stories that are coming from the club as opposed to the players representatives. I don’t really see what any football club has to gain from leaking stories like a proud grandmother giving feedback to the mum and dad about how well-behaved someone has been during a visit

Maybe next week we’re going to read how much he tidies up after himself, or the fact courageously that eats all of his greens

It’s just the standard Rashford PR cycle. Before the season starts, we will be reading the club sources are delighted at how early he turns up for training. There is almost an archive of these things you can use to predict the next
 
Here comes the inevitable media blitz of positivity. If he tries, he tries.

I hope it works out, but my bet is December 1st for the first 'Marcus is bewildered/devastated' article, then another loan move in January.

I have no idea where the stories are coming from.

Could be his reps, could be from someone in the squad. He generally seems quite popular with teammates. Could be the club.

Of course there would be strong reasons for the club to transmit an image of things being tranquil and positive within the squad. Do you really not see why they would want to do that?
 
They’re hardly going to tell the media “agh he’s got a face on him like a scalded cat, and he’s playing like he’s got 2 lead feet”

They want to sell so off course it will be all smiles and positive PR spins

And even though I’m against him coming back at this point, if we’re stuck with him then let’s hope Carrick can make gold from mud
 
I hope he can do well for us. A lot of the former negative influences he had alongside him (Pogba, Sancho, Lingard) are gone and we have a more professional dressing room now. So he knows he has to keep his head down and work hard. This is a last chance for him, lets hope he realises it and focuses on the football. If he can do that, he may help our attack greatly
