Marcus Rashford | to redeem or not?

Funny that some still don't see he's more of an assister than scorer, which he also was in the academy.

He assisted quite a few for Villa but it was disregarded and mocked for his lack of "league goals". I doubt there are more than 10 players that have assisted more goals than Rashford in the year 2025.

He's on 17 assists this year as per Transfermarkt.

To earn twice as much money? I could be very, very happy at my workplace, but if another decent company offered to double my salary I wouldn't hesitate.

Most footballers are probably not much different, even though the figures are obviously different.

They're broke, he's on huge wages and has no resell value. He's been good and useful for squad depth but for that role they might prefer to go for someone else. Still united shouldn't lower their price any further, other clubs might be interested in him so there's that.

Meant his game in the recent years, after his crazy goalscoring run under EtH he's been more trying to make play than scoring.

It was a freak run, he doesn't have the attacking positioning to score a great amount of goals. Nor is he that good to constantly beat defenders and score as well. He is a very good passer and crosser though, and has a good eye for a run.

Good to hear. Even if Barca don’t take the option up he should still have some clubs interested.
 
You'll always get a good season out of Rashford when he's playing for a contract.

Eh? In 2023/2024 he got more goals than assists. In 2024/2025 he got more goals than assists.

However if your dream company with your dream role offered you less....

Besides he's a multi millionaire and was desperate to go to Barcelona last summer. On the face of it, he seems happy and enjoying his football. Plus it's Barcelona, great weather, great food etc.

I think motivation in general has always been a problem with Rashford. And the right wing media campaign against him the last few years, has affected him more than it probably should have.

Getting out of England is probably the best move for him.

If he’d scored 12 goals for Villa we might have got a good price for him. He scored like 4 goals for Villa.

I agree that getting out of England was a very good thing for him. He always seemed like the weight of the world was on him here. I also don’t think his physical advantages would’ve lasted much longer in the PL. He’s not a Rooney or Giggs who can drop deeper as they lose mobility. He’s better off playing in less physical leagues from now on.

I mean I’m not defending Rashford but when he had his time with us he was surrounded by other big ego players. When he first broke through under LVG he had that hunger and desire… then he got messed up and got involved in the wrong crew… (pogba, lingard, sancho etc. glad he’s doing well and hopefully we get a decent fee for him.

La liga isn't as competitive at PL. But on the flip side you can only beat the teams your up against and playing for Barcelona does come with it's own pressures.

It was the right time for him to move on from Utd.
 
So news from a reliable source has come out saying Barca want to keep Rashford. So here's my two cents as someone who follows Barca very closely given all the discourse about Rashford here.
Last season Barca had a near miracle withe the only two available wingers staying fit the whole season and playing an ungodly amount of minutes especially Yamal at 17 years old. But a reliable backup was needed and given the well known financial struggles and the Nico Williams Fiasco we needed a reliable but cheap player. Most didn't want Rashford because he didn't work hard, attitude problems etc etc... so fast forward a few months and this is how things look.
Both Yamal and Raphinha have had their fair share of injuries this season and Rashford has played a lot, 1570 minutes proving 7 goals and 9 assists which is a more than decent return. Even if they weren't injured his presence has allowed Flick to keep them fresh for the latter part of the season. His play was a lot more inconsistent at first but he has slowly started to understand his role as time goes on. And most importantly he offers something different. Yamal is flair and creativity, Raphinha is goals and pressing. Rashford is neither but he offers wide threat from the byline, crossing and long shots which has helped break opposition down. The one draw back is his finishing which hasn't been as good as advertised but he has definitely been an asset.
His attitude since joining has also been great. I think he's the type of player who doesn't want to be the main guy, the pressure at United seemed like it was killing him. Here he is just another player and the media is not obsessed with him. And he seems to be enjoying that. His coach and teammates really like him and he has adapted very well. Off the field he does all the things that he did back home so yeah... for 30 mil, if he is willing to reduce his wages it's an absolute no brainer. For him aswell the move has been a great success. He's back in the England team, in a title race and one of the top scorers in the UCL. Win-Win.
