Memphis Depay can leave Barca for free.

SURELY he's a better option than this guy.

Look, I haven't come on here to defend the guy I just want some more information. I think Arnautovitch would be a bad signing due to his age and his history. Did he not used to play for Stoke (so not exactly a galatico!) and has he not also had a spell in China, which a player would normally only do when they know themselves that they have lost a yard of speed or the ability to last 90 mins in a top league....

But I don't understand all the racist arguments I'm reading on here, I really think that 'R' word is too often used these days and it is such an explosive one. For instance, if an Austrain abuses a North Macedonian (so basically two white men) is it racist? If I make a joke about a Scottish person, am I guilty of a racist joke? I don't think so.

Turning now to the other allegation, well I don't know the full details, but in December 2020 Cavani received a three game ban for using an 'n' word in an instagram post: “Gracias negrito” – Spanish for “thanks little black person”. Was the caf up in arm about that, did people want him drummed out of the club? I don't recall so.

Interestingly, I think Cavani felt he had been dealt with harshly due to the PL not understanding the nuances of slang terms made in other languages - did he think Manchester United should have shown him more support? (tricky as this was at the height of the BLM campaign) because he seemed to lose all motivation for the club, after that. So was the alleged racist incident from Arnautovitch years ago made in English, or not, because as the Cavani thing shows, the language of the language, really matters.

Apologies, as I was typing this breaking news came through, but I will leave it up here because I'm still interested in what people think and in some ways, now its even more important. The tweet announcing the end of this mentions two reasons: i) that Bologna have priced him out of the bargain player bracket and ii) complaints from fans seen as contributing factors...

I can accept i) but in view of the Cavani thing, are fans really getting that powerful? Is this as someone else said in the Rashford thread regarding organisations getting a bit too 'sensitive' to public opinion: "you go woke and you go broke".

I don’t think I’ve ever been this relieved about a transfer falling through.

How weird is it that the biggest praise we have for the United management so far this month is that they didn't sign someone?

"Onto other attacking targets now.". Not sure whether to be excited or nervous, surely our other targets are better?
Braithwaite is available, if you convince him to join.

Lock the thread. The quicker we forget about it and move on - the better.

United are pulling out if transfers due to fan complaints now?
No, they were never in for this transfer. It's a 33 year old racist with questionable work ethic. These links were, IMO, purely to make every other transfer more acceptable to the fanbase. Watch everyone gush over signing Andy Carroll or some tosser now...."at least he's not racist".

Andy Carroll is also 33, also shit, but not a racist as far as I know. Go on United, you know you want to.

And common sense saves the day.

Can't believe it took the fans to veto this, but the right outcome has been acheived.

Our transfer team is wildly swinging in the wind and basing their targets on PR - if they identified him as the answer to our problems then why not sign him? I'm glad we're not going anywhere near him, but signing players based on public opinion implies we know better than their 'global scouting network' or whatever bullshit they want to pretend we have.

It’s a sad reality but I think the fans need to realize that United at the moment is not a attractive prospect for high level players. Their are the couple that will come of course but United is not the first choice option for a lot of guys.

This current state of United reminds me of when Liverpool were signing Joe Allen, Stewart Downing, Jose Enrique and such while having Ngog at striker.

Arnautović for what United current level is, all things considered is an ok signing. You don’t have the ability to attract elite players right now and Arnautović could probably still put in some better performances and a better shift then the likes of Anthony Martial.

United have a long way to go to come back and personably if I was United I would attach the marker and season one a different manner.

- Promote the biggest talents in the club and give them a run on the bench and the very best ones at first team I.E Garnacho, Garner etc

- Sign talented Young players who might be interested to join a big name and a club with less pressure to win (atm)

- Buy some veteran players that can guide the youth, guys like Christian Erickson fit that role perfectly

- keep some veteran or core pieces that can be of value on the squad, I.E David De Gea.

Rebuild the club the correct way!
Such a BS argument - Arsenal just signed Jesus and Zinchenko. Newcastle signed Bruno and Botman. What exactly was their pull above United ? Top 5 from PL get CL this year and in couple of years PL would be more attractive than CL.

Lack of proper planning is why we are in this mess now. CR7 should have been thrown out the moment he didn't turn up for preseason. A striker should have been targeted long back. We are just doing the same mistake as of last year.

There's a certain amount of backlash that matters (see Gattusso to Tottenham). Though the club should know on the first place, but football clubs have shown time after time that they are not in touch with reality when it comes to fan base opinions.

That makes me worrying about our scouting even further. Surely one of the first things you should be scouting for a player is, is he a cnut, racist or criminal? It's not like he's an unknown quantity in the premier league!

Be happy

And then realise we're about to try signing someone who was lower on our shortlist than Arnoutovic
