He was average in 1st half but excellent in the 2nd half. Won lots of 2nd balls and aerial one which allowed us to attack in waves. I think he will be an important asset for us this season.

I'll be so pissed if he's out for a while, especially now that he's looked to have made that holding role his.

Another good game for him today. Not as good as he has been, but he still made some important tackles/interceptions.

He and Pogba do need to communicate more, though. Guess its only there second game together, but if one of them presses, then one needs to make sure they drop in the hole, because a few time Hull were able to get in between the lines with ease. Against better teams, we could get punished.

What was even more impressive about him, was how disciplined he was after the early booking.
What seems to have really helped him is that Jose has given him a defined role.
Times under previous management (especially last season) it was difficult to see what he was told to do.

Hope his injury sees him miss international football but is back in time fully fit for the City match :)

Is this serious? My first thought was it was one of those pre international break "knocks".

Good thing Bastian is still at the club...
Why? We already have 3 better midfielders ahead.

He seems to win alot of high balls from the opposing keeper or defence. More often than not nodding it down into our possession.

Imagine if you'd said that at the point we signed Schneiderlin. You would have been committed. But now it doesn't sound crazy.
True but anything he did at Southampton before we signed him was cancelled out by how anonymous he was last season for us. I know it was a poor season for us in general but he was one of our worst players. I think he was also very overrated for what he did at Southampton. I don't think hes good enough to be our DM and if he is starting against City I think we are in big trouble.

It looked like he lost his footing to me.
Yeah he definitely slipped then went sliding in on his knees by accident.

I don't believe the bad back stuff, think it's just going to be an excuse so he can skip belgium duty, then he's fresh for the derby.

He was instrumental in maintaining our relentless second half pressure. The sheer quantity of high balls from clearances he won and managed to nod down to teammate wad amazing.

He was good aerially, average on the ball, and clueless as a DM during the rate times Hull had the ball in our half. Kept giving away fouls because their midfielders were able to get behind him ridiculously easily.

You do realize that the same (and even more) was said about Fellaini just a month earlier, right?
You're simply not giving a chance to a player who had one season under LVG, who doesn't bring best out of all players

They have De Bruyne and Silva as their 8s. Schneiderlin has played well in a 4-4-2 sitting back and defending (brilliant against Chelsea his last year at Soton). He's not good on the ball but I think he could do a good job in the Derby, like Phil Neville used to. I'd play:

------------Ibra--------
Rashford-Herrera--Mkhitaryan
----Pogba--Schneiderlin

if the idea is to hit them on the break.

Yes I realise that. I've never been one of those to want Fellaini sold or to overly criticise him though as I've always felt he has something to offer the team. I have never really felt that about Schneiderlin.

I feel really bad for the guy. Finally started to string some good performances together and then he gets injured. Poor guy. I hope he comes back soon.

He's finally playing close to the level which Is expected of him and showing the promise of his standard liege days. He's not the ideal midfield enforcer but at least he's done a much better job of shielding the defense than schneiderlin or Carrick have done recently (helped enormously by the combined defensive prowess of Bailly and Blind)

Some have mentioned that the space behind and in between Fellaini and Pogba can be exploited by better teams. I think Mourinho knows this very well that such a strategy can counter his system. It's been used by van gaal against Chelsea. He will have a plan for that as well.

If I didn't know any better (I know nothing) I'd say this is just Mourinho trying to give Pep something to think about before the derby...

Who says Schneidelin can't recreate his Southampton form seeing as though Fellaini has been playing well. Fellaini will be a miss but hopefully it means Schneiderlin can re-establish himself.

Does Fellaini injury open the doors for Phil Jones in the midfield? He has some similar attributes.

Along with Blind, Bailly, Fellaini has been our most consistent player of the season so far.

It's a relatively new position for him under a completely new manager, so he needs time to prefect the role. But as things stand, he fully deserves his 1st XI selection.

He has been moved around in differnt positions and squad roles and mocked by many. And so this good start to the season is testament to his solid character and work ethic.

I'm delighted he has found a manager who believes in him and knows how to get the best out of him. In many ways, its like having another new signing; who knows how far he can can progress with Bailly behind and Pogba in front on him: hard as nails definsive spine to the team.

God I hope not. Besides I Mou likes 'specialists' so I am guessing Carrick, Schneiderlin, Blind, Herrera and maybe even TFM are ahead of him in the pecking order for that role.

No thanks! Schneiderlin or Carrick can come in and show his worth now. Wonderful to have this strength in depth!

I don't expect a permanent replacement but maybe just for the City game? He did play Zouma in a defensive midfield role at times when he was at Chelsea.

Had a bit of a nervy first-half. He wasn't bad, but definitely dropped off from his previous standard. Improved a lot in the second though and won the ball back for us a lot. Ended up having quite a good game. If he played out the game with this injury then it makes it even more impressive.

Shame about the injury because he's been very good. I am not sure we can replace him in this destroyer role. Schneiderlin may be able to do it but we'll lose some aerial presence.
