Martín Zubimendi | £51m release clause

I will probably get slated for this. But would prefer Wharton. He should be are top midfield target this summer

I don't think you'll get slated for this. Wharton is a top prospect and he's shown it very consistently for two seasons now. He'd be ideal for us next to Ugarte.

Out of our price range I expect, when CM isn't our highest priority position. I expect City are the ones who'll get him eventually. He's got Rodri replacement written all over him.

Not that I think they're going for Bruno but Jude needs to start playing a little deeper for Real.
No. The deeper he plays the worse he is

As for this guy, I sincerely hope we're not stupid enough to sign him. Good player but he's not even better than Ceballos really

Didn’t they sign that Nico as a Rodri replacement? Or is he more of a squad player?

I still kinda feel like CM should be our biggest priority. Ugarte just doesn't do it for me at all and he doesn't complement anyone of our midfield personnel. I even feel like just adding a reasonably cheap Cherki to our forward line would solve a lot of goalscoring issues (from the additional creativity of him and Amad once he's back) but so long as we have Ugarte and Casemiro/Eriksen and even Bruno as our main central mf, we're going to have huge problems either creating from deep or maintaining positional shape. The midfield is definitely more solid than it was under Ten Hag but offers very little threat or control.

Agree here. We still can't keep the ball high up the pitch or our midfield block can't defend high up. Ugarte can break up play, but literally no one else in our squad is physically good enough to cover the spaces if paired with him. Maybe Collyer, but then he's not good enough on the ball.

If both Eriksen and Casemiro leave this summer then I’d go all in for Wharton and promote Kone which alongside Bruno, Ugarte, Mainoo and Collyer would be plenty of strength in depth for what is two positions under Amorim.

I am giving Amorim full trust, but if he doesn't bring a proper CM, I will start to doubt him. For all of the talk about striker and attacking wide player, we absolutely need a CM too. We cant keep playing with Ugarte, borderline starter and Bruno a no10 and Casemiro (legs gone, a cup player) and Collyer (just a runner now) Mainoo - not athletic enough, rather a no10...

We need someone like Alexis MacAlister. Zubimendi is really underwhelming. he's like Jorginho from wish and Jorginho is not good enough.

If we had €250mn to spend, for me it'd be Baleba, Wharton, Cherki and Jonathan David. I think we'd actually have a really good team and then past this window, we target a top class striker and keeper when they emerge. Would be so reluctant to spend huge money on current 'top strikers' like Gyokeres and Osimhen because I think there's a big chance they crumble at United or don't get the service.

All fantastic choices. But Brighton and Palace are tough teams to negotiate with. Could see us only getting one of them. My preference Wharton. Then signing a cheaper CM option to replace Casemiro. I think midfield is as important as a new striker in the summer. We are getting over run in the premier league this season.

Not sure if he really adds to their squad, Partey was useless vs PSG but is better imo.

I would imagine they look to offload Party and his baggage ASAP.

But yeah an Arsenal fan probably won't get TOO excited with this. It's not what they need. On the other hand if they go out and buy an Osimhen or Gyökeres too... Makes the League interesting next year for sure.

I think Partey is off now. I think Jesus, Jorgingo maybe Trossard will be sold too

He just didnt want to play for them, Arteta and London are a pull.
True, but I think scousers will be furious
Classic Arsenal. Sign a player they don't need while ignoring the striker position.
Yeah, not their most pressing need for sure but Jorginho’s replacement id assume. I’m sure they’ll still spunk some cash on a CF. I mean, they have to, right?

Must be nice to make early moves like this, meanwhile we haven't got a clue what competitions we're playing in yet.

I heard recently they offered him a new contract rather.. maybe I'm misinformed.

I'm sure they will go for a striker, they cannot be that naive. Their first eleven is almost complete. A left winger and striker and they're basically done.

They’ve (allegedly) agreed terms for a midfielder they’ve been pursuing for about 18 months. Well done Arsenal.

Why everyone assuming Partey is off? It's Jorginhno that's off. Partey will probably split time with Zub.

Surely save the €60m and put it towards the main team issue, striker?

Let’s say Isak costs north of £100m, you get half that fee for him already.

Raya
Timber Saliba Gabriel Lewis-Skelly
Rice Partey
Saka Odegaard Martinelli
Isak

Surely that is the only way they get close next season to a title?

They do need to replace both Jorginho (who is gone) and Partey (who isn't a top player anymore) to be fair. But of course Isak should be the priority. I'd imagine that they have a centre forward sorted as well... if not for them ignoring that glaring issue for multiple transfer windows already.

I thought it rejected Pool because he wanted to stay in Sociedad?
Not quite. He wasn't against leaving but since it was the very end of the window and Arsenal had just signed Merino, another key midfielder from Sociedad, he didn't want to leave his team with, basically, a gaping hole in their midfield.

Think most will have more of a “his loss” attitude towards him just like with Caicedo and Lavia now. Missed out on a PL title for a midtable La Liga finish which he already had quite a few of.

Seems likely that Sociedad convinced him last season that they couldn’t lose both him and Merino in the same season but that he would be allowed to leave this time around. We already have Gravenberch at the moment and while we do need reinforcements in central midfield, it’s more about cover there and not immediate first XI impact like striker, left wing, and fullback positions currently are. I’ll be more than happy if this €60m saved goes towards a top tier striker.

What baggage? He's been playing all season so can't imagine any baggage there...

Oh no, our season isn't over because of a pesky European final.

I’m glad they’re wasting £60million on a position where they already have Rice.
Surely he sits next to Rice and let’s Rice be a midfielder who presses higher and not responsible for deep build up?

Would you prefer we just started signing players assuming we aren't in the Champions League next year?
