I've never understood the hate because he basically just does what Sky want him to do - enthusiastically back the winners.

That's been their narrative for decades and certainly used to include favouring us when we were winning. Machedaaa etc.

With Sky it's always about making the current season's best clubs sound like the most important and amazing clubs since time immemorial.

I know a few weirdos who are fans of lower clubs who have their favourite, big club to follow in the EPL just to have something of interest to follow on Super Duper Sunday.

he's like fletcher on BT sport, panders to his co commentator. Kisses their arse and their supported teams'

If Fletch commentates with Macca, he's right up Lpool's arse, when with Hoddle watching Spurs, he is right up Spurs' backside. Tyler same with Nev and Carra

Because it’s not good for his career to be known as an Arsenal fan. The same way referees pretend they support non league clubs.

Which is exactly what an Arsenal fan who works as a TV football commentator would say.
Yeh but why do no other commentators then?

Fletcher is Forest
Smith - Arsenal
Carra and Nev obvious
Alan Parry - Liverpool
Macca - Lpool
Andy Gray - Rangers, albeit rarely commentates these days
John Motson - Chelsea
Peter Drury - Watford
Ian Darke - i think is Pompey
etc

Martin Tyler supporting Woking is genuine, i dont understand the conspiracies haha

Can't believe those guys support PL teams, who'd have known?

Alan Parry's more of a Wycombe fan. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...ham-Alan-Parry-s-big-passion-Wycombe-Cup.html
John Motson only admitted he's a Chelsea fan in the last few years after pretending to be a Barnet fan for years so he didn't get accused of bias towards Chelsea (just like Tyler with Arsenal). https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowb...n-a-secret-chelsea-fan-throughout-his-career/

Tyler's an Arsenal fan.

The great Barry Davies supports Spurs but never revealed as such during career.

Pretty much every pundit on Sky is encouraged to be harsher on United because it plays well with neutral viewers, who all hate United.

Sky Sports are like the BBC is to the government...they'll pander to and kiss arse to whoever is in power at the time

Surprised at this thread.

Who do people want to replace him? Sam Matterface? I don't think there's anyone who's so much better than Tyler.

And...its...LIVE! Think he will do that job as long as possible, wouldnt be surprised if he drops dead in middle of commentary when he is 117.

I still have nightmares about the BBC’s “Liverpool into Europe” he fronted. Usually from the vicinity of the current dippers manager’s arse.

I actually liked Clive Tyldesley. Who was shafted by ITV. One of the most amazing pro-United commentaries of all time in THAT final. All the more surprising considering he would often declare his support for Liverpool.

That's pretty much nailed it I think and reminded me how much that Machedaaa commentary wound up oppo mates. Back in the early Ruud years, commentators used to jizz over his goalscoring exploits, 'he's simply fantastic!' and before that the interplay at times between Cole and Yorke.

Everything that comes out of his mouth is either a tired old cliché or, quite simply, drivel. Or, indeed, clichéd drivel.
Weird how Clive Tyldsley is sat at home and this breathy zombie hasn't been binned off.

If I live to be 100 I’ll still not understand why a commentator has a catchphrase. Does my absolute box in whenever he says it. I know it’s fecking live, that’s why I’m watching it!
You know he says it so that people watching long after he's gone will recognise his catchphrase. But anyone watching it in the future won't be watching it live, so it's a stupid catchphrase.

Yea I'm a United fan and United are my hobby. I'm sure there are loads of articles that say he's a Wycombe fan too like this one.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...ham-Alan-Parry-s-big-passion-Wycombe-Cup.html

Seriously though maybe Alan Parry is a Liverpool fan but said he supported Wycombe to avoid being accused of Bias. Just like Motson with Chelsea and Tyler with Arsenal.
that’s what I meant. He talks openly about being a dipper. It’s in the article.

Sounds like he's commentating on a preseason game. Big goal in the title race. Zero enthusiasm.
