Mason Greenwood, Marseille Footballer | Read the thread rules in the OP before posting

Two reasons:
- watching Hojlund every week
- having a sell-on clause to profit from if he does well and move to a bigger club

That just makes me think we need a new striker, Greenwood never enters my mind. Why would he? He blew his chance in England through despicable behaviour and will probably never be back.

The blame in this case is not on the club, but on Mason.

The club made the right decision. At least we got some money out of it (some would have argued sacking him would have been the right decision, but I think that would have only served to needlessly cost the club even more).

It's sure frustrating thinking about what he could have achieved here if he hadn't brought this situation upon himself.
Last paragraph sums up my feelings on it perfectly

So in the end of the day Mason had a very good season. 22g + 6a, 106 min per G/A.

The only way he can play again for England or an English club is after a public interview alongside his wife and telling the world they have moved on and football fans should also move on.
He changed his allegiance to Jamaica if I'm not mistaken, they offered him the opportunity since his England career is dead in the water.

Steve McLaren is actually their coach now and recruited him

The one academy prospect I had such high hopes for. I genuinely thought he will be amongst the worlds best player ever and will lead us to lots of trophies. Heartbreaking doesnt even begin to describe how I felt watching his united career implode

Hes incredibly lucky to have gotten a second chance and for his kids sake I wish him the best

I absolutely don't and cannot understand your point of view.

???
I was under the impression, that the poster wished Greenwood "the best" and not Greenwood's kid.
Sorry, if I was mistaken.
No, I wasn't having a pop. He wished Greenwood the best for Greenwood's kids sake.

I don't think the poster was absolving Greenwood of anything or condoning his actions. Just wishing him the best so that his kid doesn't suffer and the kid can have a good life etc.

Saw this image on the BBC's article about Ekitike. Given the price all the others on that list would/will go for, Mason's value must be pretty high. Do we still have any sell-on clauses for him?

Yes we have a tasty 50% reportedly

He'll be staying put this summer but if he comes close to replicating his debut season or even building off it then he'll most likely be a hot property in the market next summer

I heard there was interest from Saudi but it’s a non starter bexause his partner doesn’t want to go

You won't get 70m bids for Greenwood purely because off what happened off the pitch.

The only club in England who'd bid that sort of money on him despite that is Arsenal, and they've splashed the cash this window on forwards anyway.

Newcastle would, but not this summer. Would be funny seeing Newcastle fans claim the moral highground while celebrating a nation that sentences people to lashes, prison, or even death for homosexuality.

Didn't they hate each other (supposedly)?
Even if they did - it seems people accused of you know what tend to flock together (hello politicians)

Still bummed about this kid. Truly thought he could be a RvP regen of sorts for us with that catapult shooting leg of his. Most unfair though is that the club that got him to success takes the real hit in a way.

Doubt he'll go there when he can still carve out a career in Europe outside of the prem. Money would be tempting though I'm sure

There are (allegedly) a load of other issues with Greenwood aside from the obvious, all going back to the Covid breach during lockdown.

Aside from maybe a rich newly promoted club that wants to make a statement signing, I don't think we'll see him in the Premier League again. And I don't think we'll see him at a "big" club in Germany/Spain/Italy for the same reasons.

Could 100% see him in Italy or back in Spain at some point.

Inter have been rumored to be interested this summer as an alternative to Lookman but I doubt OM would consider a sale. That absolute weapon De Zerbi would go full Conte on them if they did

Wasn't the story back in the day him and Ronaldo didn't get on? But either way, I would be very glad if he went there cos thats plenty of £££ but I doubt he'd want to go
