Mason Greenwood, Marseille Footballer | Read the thread rules in the OP before posting

Wasn't the story back in the day him and Ronaldo didn't get on? But either way, I would be very glad if he went there cos thats plenty of £££ but I doubt he'd want to go
Judging by that pic, maybe they got on too well

I'd be surprised if he opts for Saudi at this stage. Turns 24 this year, if he keeps performing well in France in the upcoming season then surely there'll be clubs in Spain/Italy looking to bring him in.

You won't get 70m bids for Greenwood purely because off what happened off the pitch.

The only club in England who'd bid that sort of money on him despite that is Arsenal, and they've splashed the cash this window on forwards anyway.
Arsenal clearly have no morals as we have seen recently…

Marseille value him so highly because they only get 50% of profit.

Whilst these sell on deals look good on paper, it often leads to clubs being more reluctant to deal. Zaha at Palace would be one example, and Guehi could be another example. The reality being that the club is more willing to let the player run down their contract.

I dont get the rules on this thread?

Insults are ok, wishing he didnt have to move on or reminding people there was only an allegation, no conviction is not allowed?

Is there a separate thread where these are allowed and insults aren't?
No, them's the rules here, you are looking for a separate forum.

Would be great to see Greenwood go to Saudi so we get the sell on but I doubt he'll move this summer

They'll be reluctant to sell but also wary of him leaving on free at end of contract

Marseille going to CL will give him a platform for hopefully a bigger move next year

Looks like Marseille are after Edon Zhegrova from Lille (also a RW) so maybe this one is a goer. If fees are to be believed, we'd get about £24m.

Hoping he really lights out to this season and becomes a 100 million striker. We could really do with the money

I am sure he won’t be back, I was being a little facetious, his future is at Marseille or somewhere else where he is out of the limelight.
Yeah I think so as well. Saudi seems the only real chance we have to net a significant sell-on fee.

There are (allegedly) a load of other issues with Greenwood aside from the obvious, all going back to the Covid breach during lockdown.

Aside from maybe a rich newly promoted club that wants to make a statement signing, I don't think we'll see him in the Premier League again. And I don't think we'll see him at a "big" club in Germany/Spain/Italy for the same reasons.
He would certainly be a statement signing.

That 50% sell on was a master stroke. I'm surprised they agreed to that.

Wait profit or any selling fees? I thought it was the later?
Profit, otherwise Marseille’s could potentially make a loss on his sale just through the clause.

If he moved for 75m for example, that’d be 50% of the profit or 50% of 50m. So a 25m windfall. Meaning overall we’d have brought in 50m from his sale over the two transfers.

Likewise if he moves for 30m we get 2.5m and 27.5m overall. We should all bee hoping he gets a big fee move to SA as we can potentially make more from Greenwood’s sell on clause than we can from selling Sancho and Antony combined when you factor in book value.

What's not to like? We'd get paid and he'd feck off to oblivion.

if that sale happens and you sell garnacho....both are pure profit to our PSR which would allow the club to spend whatever they would need to add a striker, mid and gk

I'm not convinced about the rumoured sell-on clause. Marseille originally bought 50% of his economic rights which might be where that came from, they've since bought around 10% more. So I would guess that we will get 40% of any fee as we still own that much.

Is Ronaldo the manager now? Didn’t he wanted Joao Felix and then signed him and then now he wants Greenwood?

I think his new context gives him a say on transfers

Wouldn't that be even better for us?

40% of the whole fee rather than 50% of the profit?

That would be better. But I cannot imagine that we own any proportion of his ‘economic rights’, and he’s been fully transferred to Marseille.
Marseille's president confirmed this at a press conference in May.

“Regarding his contractual situation, we purchased 50% of the player’s economic rights, representing his entire value.”

“This was the only way to make an offer that was higher than those made by other clubs to Manchester United. This arrangement was also made possible by the player’s desire to join Olympique de Marseille.”

“Qualifying for the Champions League means we are obliged to purchase an additional percentage, around 10%, which allows us to increase our ownership stake in the player. This is part of the initial agreement and also demonstrates our desire to invest in him for the long term.”

Thanks.

Have done some digging and there is a suggestion that not only do we have 40% economic rights, but we also have a sell on clause of 50%.

So Marseille would need to sell for approx £78m to make a £10m profit.

so that £26.7m fee effectively has him valued at twice that when we sold him.

If they do sell him, it would end up a bloody marvellous deal for us. Although Getaffe are potentially entitled to 20% of what we receive!

Why wouldn’t they? It’s 50% of the profit so they may never sell him if he keeps scoring and loves life there. Plus they got a highly rated young striker for peanuts
They had us over a barrel really. Think they were the only club in for him. 26m plus a 50% sell on was good business for us when he was never going to play for us again.
