Mason Greenwood, Marseille Footballer | Read the thread rules in the OP before posting

I was wondering why we had no detailed statistical analysis in the thread for over a month. It tuns out before yesterday's 4 he was on 2 goals in seven matches in the league.

I guess his fans were too busy to factually post about him on those matchdays when he wasn't as good.
It’s like this for any player thread ….Antony scored twice yesterday thread gets bumped , Rashford didn’t assist or score yesterday thread is quiet . Same as Hojlund etc but carry on . If a former player scores 4 goals it will be brought up shockingly .

27m, they didn't do badly did they. Do they get any shit in france for having signed him, or did those voices quickly die out once he started scoring goals?
27m for 50%. They paid another 5m for another 10% this summer for reaching CL, according to their president.

So it's a similar deal to antony? So we don't have a sell on clause as such, we just get the rest when his next club buys us out?

That's just a wishful thinking in some naive fans mind. His future sale will give United some money that we'll gladly take it.
Well yeah, we gave him 100k a week, gave him countless concessions on his professional behaviour, and pinned him as the future of our attack. Only for him to bring the club into disrepute with his abhorrent behaviour, feck the club financially and the squad leaving us without a first XI attacker. It's probably the least he could do for the club.

He has broken the mighty record of Papin whatshisname. Don't even know who that is
Probably not something you should be admitting so mockingly on a football forum if you expect people to take you serious ;)
Jean Pierre Papin was class, and is a huge name in the history of French football.

It's disingenuous to compare him to Antony. He scored the same amount of goals as Dembele last season in a much inferior team. He's had 11 goal contributions in his last 9 games for Marseille. He's so much better than the likes of Antony, Hojlund etc.

We lost an incredible player and it was all the fault of Greenwood himself and his despicable behavior. Some things are just unforgivable and his "incident" crossed the line.

I mean, his footballing ability was never in question. We all know why he isn't playing here and it's right that he isn't.

On pace to potentially score 30 this year. That sell on fee is looking better by the day.

Well, when a former player is number one top scorer in his league that's big, when a former player is top 5 top scorer or assist in his league that's big. Offcourse the thread is active when a dor.er player scores more than one goal each game. We give our own players a higher score when they do a good match, not that much if he's invisible or does a bad job. So I don't understand your point, it's about fotball isn't it?

Exactly. He'll still be associated with United.

It's almost as if attackers from other leagues are talked about more when they score, and people more-or-less forget about them when they're going through a quiet spell.
Everything here is incorrect: he's not just an "attacker from another league", that's just silly; it's not "more", it's no messages whatsoever in over a month and then a wankfest; and nobody "more-or-less forgot" about Greenwood for a month, the problem was his performances were not enough to justify the wankfest.

Pretending that this thread being a ghost town for weeks when he doesn't score 4 goals is because, you know, that's what happens with all players is nonsense, and everybody knows it.

Thanks to the bump we have another round of "she forgave him" too. That's brilliant, well done everybody.

Will he command a big fee, despite his history? If he was anyone else he'd probably be looking at a value of £70m+ by now.

That would depend on the club and league. I'm surprised the Saudi league haven't tried to sign him yet.

Something like that. Their president confirmed CL qualification automatically triggered the clause to buy out another 10%. So let's say someone buys him for 60m, then we will end getting around the same number in total, which I guess is ok just based on talent alone (marketability not taken into account).

Is this not how virtually all sell on clauses are structured? Otherwise the selling club could sell the player for a ‘profit’ but still lose money. It wouldn’t make sense.

Leaving aside you know what, he’s got a reputation as being somewhat lazy and unprofessional. I read somewhere that Ronaldo had warned them off buying him

Yeah good point. Definitely can't see him going there because of that, not to mention that Ronaldo won't want Greenwood to stain his personal brand.

Yeah, nobody really has the money except an English team and that won't happen. The big Spanish teams aren't going to cough up for him, Bayern won't want him, and nobody in Italy has the cash to do it. So it'll be Saudi or him running down his Marseille deal to the last year I imagine.

Would it change people’s opinions if he atoned for his actions?
At this point, it would be nearly impossible for him to atone for his actions in a way that I would consider to be honest and not self serving.

I could plausibly see Atletico or Bayern inquiring about his availability. Griezman is 34 and Greenwood could be viewed as a replacement to play alongside Alvarez in Simeone's 5-3-2 . At Bayern, Jackson is there on loan and Kane, despite being in world beater form isn't getting any younger, and may not even stay at Bayern, so I could see Kompany taking a look as well.

He will always be one the biggest “what could have been” stories for us.

In a different timeline, Greenwood isn't an abuser, Martial isn't a crock and Rashford doesn't lose his motivation

I think the club probably pinned a lot on the three of them leading us to glory, and they very well could have, had things played out differently

Maybe it's pretty much the same but different wording. In this case they bought 50% of his economical rights. CL qualification automatically triggered the purchase of another 10%, leaving us with 40% still. Not sure if there's any more clauses which eventually will turn it into a 100% sale, but would think so due to how special this transfer was. Either way, if we end up getting 60m+ (Getafe probably getting some too) I would say that is a great deal considering how bleak it once looked before his loan move to Getafe.

personally i'd love to see him back at the club bc he's a brilliant footballer....not sure where he would fit in this system though other than playing the 9

I missed this at the time but seems it was confirmed by Marseille, probably is other clauses we don't know about and who knows if Getafe are still in the picture

"We're happy with his performance this season. He scored 21 goals (in Ligue 1), plus one in the Cup. He was one of the most important players of the season, and we're very proud of his first season.

"There were ups and downs, naturally. But it was his first full season with a preseason. Everything happened very quickly for him compared to past situations. Regarding the contract situation, we bought 50% of the player's value; it was the only way to complete the transaction because they had offers higher than ours.

"Qualifying for the Champions League requires us to buy around 10% more."

I'd be very upset if we're not "allowed" to own him while other big club can.
