Mason Greenwood, Marseille Footballer | Read the thread rules in the OP before posting

Greenwood isn't world class. He's an good finisher who has 14 goals in 21 games in the fifth best league in Europe. He would've never been United's top goal scorer.

As for whether Amorim would've culled him - i'm fairly sure he would've done so because Greenwood's languid demeanor when he doesn't have the ball would've annoyed Amorim to no end, and his behind the scenes behavior across the board (separate from his partner) wouldn't have helped his cause. He simply doesn't exhibit the same workrate as a player like Mbeumo does, which is specifically the sort of intensity profile Amorim is after.

Agreed on he's not world class and he really only has 3 years to get there now as that's generally a players peak.

Potentially world class but a little off it.

Baring in mind he doesn’t play for the leagues best team though… you’d expect a player from PSG to get the top goalscorer every season. The guys class… he’d bang a lot more goals in playing for a better team than Marseille.

Seperate the man from the talent - Greenwood is pushing world class. If he hadn’t missed two seasons of football he’d probably be there.

He’d start for every side in England.

It is pretty obvious that a couple of top clubs will be in for him. PSG, Real or Barca i could imagine. I dont think a club like Bayern would go for him or someone from the PL (not yet).

Given the total lack of talented strikers around at the moment, he will be snapped up in no time. Right we did what we did, but of all the shite players it could have been. Probably the only player from that squad who is at a level to significantly improve us.

I don't even think Amorim is even here if Greenwood was able to still play for us. We'd have hired someone more suited to get the best out of him or play a formation more suited to him.

Can’t see Barca stumping up the money Marseille would want. They’d wait till he’s out of contract. PSG is the most realistic option I think

Marseille selling their top player to PSG? That would cause riots.

Was thinking the same.

To be fair, all those who ware ousted had various personality issues, but at the end of the day, they were showed the door because they didn't deliver. Sancho and Rashy can moan all they want, but if they regularly performed and scored, I think they'd still be here. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Greenwood had plenty of issues before this one too.

A couple of bad months and the fans would want him out the same.

Yeah, it's mental that a team that's probably cost more than the rest of the league combined can only get 10 players in the team of the year.

They're not even 1st right now

In fairness to them, PSG have gotten exponentially better as a team once they've stopped spending stupid money on stupid players that don't fit a system.

Fabian Ruiz cost 30 million Euros
Nuno Mendes 38 million
Hakimi 60 million
Pacho 40 million
Dembele 50 million
Vitinha 40 million ( I still do not understand how he was so shite at Wolves)
Joao Neves 60 million

They've got some absolute bargains too like Lee Kang-in for 20 million.

Their net spend is basically just about top half of the PL in the past 5 years. Which given they are a petrostate backed club, isn't that insane.

Yes a massive 1 point off the mighty Lens.

Only 2.4bn spent since 2011 with a negative net spend of 1.5bn. In contrast to the rest of the league. The next closest is Marseille on -240m, only 2 other clubs with negative net spends in the same period are Chelsea's offshore bank account and the other Paris team.

Edit: the UEFA rulea are pretty much the main reason they've cut back, 3 of their top 5 most expensive signings have been in the last 5 years.

I'm not defending PSG in any way shape or form. Of course they crush everyone in Ligue Une and of course they heavily outspend the rest of the league.

But their main priority is/was winning the CL - and that means spending on the same order of magnitude as the other CL contenders.

It's the same shit as Bayern Munich minus the petrostate.

What do you expect them to do, exactly? I don't like them for the Qatar side of things but for the football side of things, they're basically Bayern. Outspend the rest of the league. win mostly all the time and try to win the CL by spending heavily, much more than the rest of the league.

I actually prefer them to Bayern in this regard, because they rarely pluck from their own league but from abroad. When they do pluck from the French League they pay lots of money, which is good for other clubs in the league. Bayern pluck from Bundesliga much more and often do it through free transfers.

Look at the players Bayern have plucked from their rivals for free (or nominal fee):

Tah
Laimer
Sabitzer
Ulreich
Nubel
Goretzka
Rudy
Lewandowski
Kirchoff

Just in the past decade - this is far worse than what PSG is doing to Ligue 1.

What's the hate here? Is it because they are spending from a petro-state? Then I agree. If it's because they're spending so much then I don't agree.

So, what you are saying is, the top side in the French farmer's league at least sews a few crops for their competing farmers whereas the top side in the German farmer's league actively steals crops from their own countrymen.

I like it.

Do those figures include the €61m they were just ordered to pay Mbappe? That’s a quarter of the Marseille net spend on one player’s wages.

It really isn't.

I'm not getting bogged down in whether or not they are the good guys for spending money mopping up all the leagues best players or not. Man City and Newcastle have spent lots of money in the PL too, that doesn't make them them the nice guys.

They are all rotten to the core.

Nothing PSG do is good for the French league, Qatar and their sportswashing have turned the entire league into a farce. Let's be honest.

Nah, that's just transfers, their total outlay must be up on 4 or 5bn. UEFA did have their wage bill at around €700m recently, but half of that was probably Mbappe.

United just can't win regarding the Greenwood topic, eh? The media will always spin it.

• If we kept Greenwood: United is so immoral and rotten as a club!
• If we let Greenwood go and he tanks his career: United is such a graveyard for young players!
• If we let Greenwood go and he plays well: United is so stupid to to lose such a talent!

I don't think the media has EVER slated Man Utd for letting Greenwood go.

For all the shites the rags in the UK are, everyone is pretty aligned that Greenwood is a gnarly piece of shit.

Where could he go next?

In Spain, I can only see Atletico being interested. Barça and Madrid won’t risk their PR by signing him.

In Germany, Bayer is the only club that could afford him, but they also won’t take the PR hit, and their fans likely wouldn’t approve.

In England, I don’t think any club would want to be associated with him.

Italy seems like a good option, with Inter and Milan being potential destinations.

I don’t see him moving to the Turkish league or the Middle East.

The ideal scenario for us would be if Barça sign Julian, and Atletico uses that money to bring him in.

You care too much what the media say

I'm sure they are very protective of their squeaky clean image, after all it's not like they are/were/have been embroiled in various match fixing, financial cheating and (alleged) doping scandals over the last two decades.

I am trying to figure out if this is meant as a serious post. Your definition of „decade“ and „rival“ is… interesting.

Edit: Bayern wouldn’t be where they are without Kirchhoff, Nübel and Ruby.

So?

By taking a player, for free, from a weaker side in bundesliga without any compensation, objectively reduces competitiveness in bundesliga, a pyramid with Bayern sitting at the very top
