Bruno has clearly shown since Amorim came in that he's capable of being press resistant in that deep role, his composure has completely transformed and I have 0 doubts about him there.

Mounts injuries are such that it's hard to plan with him, but either way I think Bruno is just a fixture in the deeper midfield spots which he is also world class at. The 10's would be amad, garnacho, Cunha, mount or zirkzee. Sometimes I'm sure Bruno will still play as a 10 and Ugarte and Case will partner each other in midfield, but typically I think you'll see Bruno long term in CM.
Bruno doesn't have the press resistance or the ability control space in transition in a higher line. What he does have in a deeper role is to play the ball vertically with excellent accuracy. But any team that applies a well coordinated press will hinder his game in a deeper role which will again hinder our ability to build the play from the back. We need specialist midfielders with the aforementioned attributes who will raise the level in deeper midfield which will enable us to better impose ourselves on the game, both with and without the ball. Playing Bruno deeper will be more of the same predictability where we look to go direct and that will play into the hands of our rivals.

I was watching the games with my Spurs supporting friend. As Mount came on I said watch out, my friend genuinely thought I was joking. I'm so happy for him and I hope he can stay fit for us.

Well that's exactly what I'm saying - if you've been watching games, it's very obvious that Bruno has exactly that press resistance in deep areas. I'd share your doubts before this season, but under Amorim he has shown that he can play the deep playmaker role to a world class level and that he's actually developed good composure and awareness in deep areas where he can be press resistant. He's done it regularly since the new year.

Honestly I just don't think those concerns are valid at all anymore, though they were valid last summer and before.

I hope you're right but I'm yet to see us as a team play highline football where the aim is to press high and pin the opponent in their own half. And that's mainly down to the players we have who are best suited to playing in a deeper more conservative way where playing direct football in transition is where we thrive.

I think Bruno is a final third killer where his direct play and final ball can be absolutely devastating for the opposition. I just feel we need players in deeper midfield with a more rounded skillset where they have the ability to both get the ball forward at a good level without compromising on losing duels in larger space. And the reason I say larger space is because the aim should be to play more expansive football and probe/provoke the opponent by taking the game to them in a higher line where we leave space behind us centrally and in the channels.

So if a team is geared up to build play from the back and into midfield at a good to high level and that is then backed up by the ability to defend in isolation in a higher line. That then provides the forwards with a very strong platform to thrive. And the key players in that regard are the CBs and deeper midfield players who will carry great responsibility in the build up play against the opponent's press and also be responsible to contain/control the transitions in a higher line. Failing this will result in what we've been seeing for too long.

Looked pretty good, fair play lets hope he can keep it up and stay fit

Very happy for him.

Ruben described how he eats right, works hard and does everything to get fit. If nothing you have to appreciate the effort. Let's hope he can stay fit and contribute from here on. The more players available, the better it is for us.

I mean I'm sure Rasmus eats right, works hard and does everything to stay fit as well. IMO I still wouldn't go into the next campaign with him in the team as our number 1 or backup striker.

Will need to see more from Mount and I'm happy he's got two well taken goals under his belt.

I am not asking to felicitate him for working hard to get himself fit or saying we don't need a new #10 because Mount scored two goals yesterday. Injuries can be hard and as frustrating they are for us, they are more frustrating for the player. You have to feel for the player at some level. Have to appreciate the effort as long as they are doing everything in their power to make themselves available. Every other player in our team was delighted for him after the goal yesterday.

I was never in favor of signing him but he is our player now and we have to have hope that he can stay fit and contribute. It's the home stretch, we need all the players available for the remaining four games this season.

Really happy for Mount, hopefully his injuries are behind him and he can get a good run in the team for the last few games and the final.

Cometh the hour, Cometh the Mason!
He will be like a new signing once he gets up to full fitness.

Good to see he has gotten among the goals in the last couple games. If he can actually stay fit next season then maybe there may be some use for him yet

Staying fit obviously but also staying in games. Not drifting out of them as he has a tendency to do. That's the key for Mount.

But him in the team alongside Amad, Bruno in CM and the technical level jumps significantly.

If you he could stay fit :( Pure talent and PERFECT for Amorim system

I agree. One of Bruno's strongest qualities is his ability to do the killer pass early. A lot of players are capable of passing but they need time either to adapt their body or to make the decision in their mind. Bruno does it quicker than anyone I've seen recently.

This is also his undoing when playing deeper when he pressed and/or surrounded. He often tries to dribble out of trouble which is fine to fail further up the pitch but absolutely detrimental when in our own half. Mainoo is the best, in my opinion, from our current midfielders, in receiving deep and having the physicality to shield the ball if needed, to dribble out of trouble when possible, to pass when an option is available, and to cut the lines with a through ball when the opposition allows it.

Ideally, we'd have someone like a Bentancur or Joao Gomes from Wolves as that first received/shield in front of the defensive line, BUT in Amorim's system, he has now tried using one of the CBs as the receiver, moving in front of his CB partners, and with the WBs providing wide options, looks like we are less dependent on the central progression options.

What's your view on that? Considering our better CB options (De Ligt, Yoro, Martinez, Maguire, Heaven), do you see this as a viable option?

Really happy for him. Two great goals and was key to us taking game away from Bilbao.

Managers do seem to absolutely love him. So must be something in that, that we have yet to see for United.

Wow. What a performance, attacking and defensively, so so good. The first goal was brilliant, shades of Macheda, the second though, wow, on his weak foot that too! Need that in the final too please!!

Where did that come from? He was unplayable last night. Even as a Chelsea player I don't think I've ever seen him that good.

I know I shouldn't hope, but still there is something left in me that says that he had his best time in PL football playing in a system not too dissimilar to what Amorim prefers. Maybe, just maybe, if he stays fit, we will have a player that really fits our system after all?

I would say it's still one of his big weaknesses, though he's done it better this season, he's still not good at it.

Could a Bruno mount casemiro midfield work? Probably not but just maybe.
This is clearly what Ten Hag wanted. He'd looked at the success of the Bruno, Eriksen, Case midfield up to the Carabao win and thought Mount would be the perfect Eriksen replacement.

I don't think it will work in the Prem but I think you can sit Bruno and Case deeper in Amorim's system and play Mount and Amad (or Garnacho) in the 10s

Worst signing post SAF. You know, for balance and a reality check.
How you can possibly mean that when you have Antony, Sancho and Sanchez in the mix is beyond me.

I agree that Mason Mount was overpriced considering the season before he came to us, and his salary is too high. But it’s not the astronomical feck-up you’re claiming.

The thing is all the above have been fit and struggled... Mason Mount has been injured most his Manutd career.. so he may be one of the most pointless signings because of various reasons but he isn't one of our worst.

Various things contribute to that - Mainly his attitude, which from the sounds of it, is top notch. When you have a manager coming out and speaking the way he has about Mount, it tells you alot about the player.

Sancho disrespected the manager, the fans and the club... will always be above Mount due to his attitude,.

If he can replicate that consistently and stay fit, he is a very complete attacking MF. He can run, close down people, pass, score goals, and carry the ball. That's more than what Foden can do.

He just needs to stay fit until the final, and then have a good pre season.

If we can inter change Bruno, Amad and Mount in the 10 position, with hopefully a new one, we would be better equiped.

Hpapy for him, but nevertheless, he needs more to prove me that the 70M was a good investment

Super happy for him. Please stay fit. He’s endured a horrible 2 years & he’s gotten so much criticism (on here) for being “injured” - as if these footballers chooses that path. Hope he can turn his career back on track.
