He was average yesterday but seems to get praised regardless of performance.
You don't notice how we press better, win the ball back higher up and play a lot more quick passing, one touch stuff in the final third when he's on the pitch?

So much of that disappears whenever Mount goes off. We've seen it in plenty of games this year. It's not a coincidence.

It's his importance to the overall team performance that is clear. Our best games this season have all been with him starting. He starts the press and links up play between midfield and attack well by avoiding huge gaps

I agree that we look better when he’s on the pitch. He presses well and speeds up the play when he manages to get on the ball. He also plays some sloppy passes, goes missing for long spells and fails to support the attack. He’s been good lately so don’t want to be too critical of him, I do think expectations for him are very low though, so even when he’s below par, he’ll inevitably be praised for his performances. It’s like the anti Bruno who gets piled on regardless.

We're just a better team with him. I don't know if it is his work rate, pressing, passing (can be hit-and-miss though) or whatever, he just makes us 'tick'. Not that we're great when he's playing, but better still.

Think its becasue he's pretty good at most things and has a good footballing brain.

He gives you a solid 90mins but maybe lacks a bit of end product.

The opposite to a moments player like Rashford or McTominay.

If I had to pick a type it would be the Mount type.

Has looked that way this season, I agree.

Regardless of performance? Seriously?! If anything he has to do much more than other players to get any kind of grudging praise at all. I get why that happens. We spent a shit load of money on him and he’s been a massve disappointment up until this season. But the idea that all he needs to do is turn up to get unjustified acclaim is bananas. The exact opposite would be closer to the truth.

He was good again first half yesterday and was missed massively when he came off.

Amorim did say he wanted to play on so hopefully the injury isn't anything much. We need him with all these other players missing.

It’s crazy that people don’t see this. I’ve been critical of him, I thought he wasn’t good at all in the EL final for instance, but our pressing is way better when he plays, he links the play and drops into midfield and we just look more fluid and a better team more often than not when he starts.

I think it's too soon to really say this, but he is a good player who has his uses obviously. Swap Mount for Bruno yesterday as a normal 10 in a pretty normal 4231 and I think we would have shown more cutting edge going forward for example, and I don't think we lose anything off the ball the way yesterday was set up. When we play a 343 with Bruno as a CM, then yeah Mount as one of the 10s plays a lot more like a 3rd midfielder while Cunha and Mbeumo play it like front 3 players/attackers. So he definitely gives us more solidity there.

For all the talk of Mainoo, in a 4231 I think Casemiro, Bruno, Mount (10) would be better than Cas, Mainoo, Bruno.

Disagree there. Depends on oponent at least. I think any "difficult" game you'd want a normal double pivot, while Bruno deeper would be asked to push forward all the time and it would leave just Casemiro back, and create the issue you saw with Ten Hag basically. Needs to be Ugarte or Mainoo next to Casemiro to give him more defensive support and cover. And honestly it's Ugarte who is the obvious choice there. Casemiro provides the positioning and deep ball playing while Ugarte can just run around and provide legs to that midfield behind the 10 in Bruno who provides the creativity.

There was an obvious drop off when Mount went off in the second half but I think that was just as much about losing another senior player in an already depleted squad as anything else. Mount's best trait is still his work rate off the ball, it's just that it takes on greater importance when we're missing the players who can provide us with quality on the ball.

He’s been excellent recently — a clear resurgence under Ruben Amorim and a real creative force when fit.

I thought he was really good yesterday, and it cannot have been lost on the manager/owners that there is someone at the club who is over 5 years younger than Bruno and can do a lot of the same things.

This flip-side of that is, I guess it also won’t have been lost on the owners that he went off at half time, and has apparently missed over 50 games since he joined, which is around a third of the total games played. Although Dorgu will rightly get credit for yesterday, I think all-round he was probably your best player in the first 45 mins. I wonder if he’ll make it to the World Cup.

He's been playing well, work rate is his biggest asset and he's a very clever presser most of the time, hopefully the injury is not too serious.

Fingers crossed he's OK for Tuesday

The Squad looking very thin and he's such an important player

Think so too. Mainoo's lack of athleticism is a huge problem. Although I would throw Ugarte in there instead of either Bruno or Mount

I think he's a real asset but he seems to me clever in tight spaces, tidy in possession and good at short range interchanges. Beyond his work rate I'm not really sure how the two are similar. Bruno's passing range and his choice of pass are totally different (he's more ambitious but also lower percentage).

On his best day Mount is a massive contributor, but I'd like to see him to take some of the leadership responsibility off of Bruno.

He was average yesterday but seems to get praised regardless of performance.

Mount is getting back to his old self, keeps the team fluid with his pressing and ability to link up quick plays transiting into attack or keeping the ball up pitch.

From his standards, he would deem it an okay performance but the team plays better with him.

He used to only be good on the off the ball stuff but this season he is quality with the ball as well

Would be great if he’s fit to face Burnley. Need more options and he’s a creative player, which we’ll definitely need against those lot.

Great to hear that he might be back next game. We really need some quality at final third.

Burnley 2:2 Man Utd
Expected some semblance of creation once Bruno was subbed off, but this guy is washed.

Mount has too many games where I wonder what he's doing for most of the time he's on.

He doesnt demand the ball and we as a team are bad at getting the ball to players like him.

Bruno gets it cos he demands it, this guy just isnt dominant on the pitch.

People jumping on Mainoo while giving a pass to the 60m flop again who’s nowhere to be found. Like playing with 10 men when he has this type of cameo.

He's just not a main or even secondary creator. Was perfect for Amorim in a specific role and I'm a fan because I think he's one of the better pure footballers in the squad, but it's hard to see his place in the team now. He's not an impact player you play off the bench, he's someone you use from the start to dominate games through his pressing. But he also doesn't score or assist enough if he's starting in a front three.

He can shine when Bruno is on because other teams prioritise Bruno, giving Mount space to work.

He is hopeless at being the sole creative outlet.

Take away the counter pressing and cute short passing and this is pretty much current Mason Mount, really. He’s not a goalscorer, not a penetrative passer or a speedy ball runner. He’s an intelligent player but he’s quite limited in what he offers.

Nothing perfomance from him. It's a shame as he just had a purple patch.

He's just too unreliable and streaky - a bit like a poor man's midfield version of Luke Shaw. If we can somehow get a bit of money from him, we should probably move on an use the funds on a CM upgrade or a full back in summer.

I'd be trying to convert him to make shift midfielder. Bruno should never be played there, and Mount is not a winger. Then in the summer we need to decide what to do with him.

We should look to sell him this window while his stock is still high, and there are many teams playing 3421.
