I dunno - Sanchez was dire but at least he scored a crucial an FA Cup semi final win for us - I can't remember one game when Mount made any difference, the few times he has been fit that is. Plus Sanchez was away on loan a year after joining us - Mount is still here three years later.

I know Hojlund didnt make it but to regard him as one of our worst signings is extremely harsh. Particularly comparing him to Antony, Onana and Sancho. He still has a decent market value and is only 23 btw.

Remember all the Van Gaal signings? Schneiderlin, Depay, Rojo, Schweinsteiger, Di Maria, Falcao... These were seasoned players for the most parts. Then there was Alexis Sanchez, Van der beek, arguably Pogba, ... Its a long list and Hojlund is definitely not top ten on it in my books.

He was cheap enough, on low enough wages and young enough that we'll be able to move him on after 2 seasons to a modest hit. Compare that Hojlund, Onana, Antony or Sancho, where we either massively overpaid or stuck them on a huge wage (or both) and thus had to risk a big financial loss for our troubles. That's just in the last few years.

And if it's simple footballing failures without the big financial outlay, we have tonnes to choose from - Beyindir, Malicia, Van De Beek, Telles, Pellistri, Schneiderlin, Bailly, Mkhitaryan. I'm not sure how Zirkzee stands out compared to a dozen other names in the post Fergie era.

I'm not sure how we'll sell him unless it's a subsidised loan and obligation to buy this summer.

His contract is up in 2028 and I don't see anyone forking out for him in summer 2027. Most likely he'll just go in 2028, possibly having agreed terms with another team.

There might be hope of Saudi Arabia coming in for him but I think it's a long shot.

As for him, he's only 23. I'm pretty convinced he can have a very good career in a top league. Labeling players as failures at only 20-23 is very harsh and probably premature imo, especially in the PL.

Yeah, he is the worst in my view. Not the worst player but taking into account he was free at the end of the next season, plays a position where our captain is never injured, had significant injury red flags the season we signed him and got Chelsea out of a hole in respect of what to do with him/gave them funds to invest, it was an absolute shocker then and remains so now.

Yep. You can count on one hand the number of "decent" games he's had. It's a waste of a squad spot if you ask me. Probably there to make up the English player quota. I don't see a good player there. He presses well. That's about it.

This is my main problem with him though, he can play in a few positions but he can't play well in the majority of them. His inability to make an impact out wide means he's third choice in those positions behind Dorgu and Amad. He's at best second choice as an AM behind Bruno but he's never going to get meaningful minutes there even if he can stay fit for a prolonged period. With all that taken into account, even if he was on a reasonable salary, is there any purpose in keeping him around? I think we should really prioritise getting him out of the squad somehow this summer and it's concerning that there's no real speculation regarding this. Yeah we'd take a big hit but we did the same with Antony and Sancho I believe. It was said that INEOS will only give players 2 seasons to prove their value, it's been three years of failure for Mount but you hardly hear any talk about it from media and fans which is curious.

It’s not really curious. Who would wan’t to buy him and pay him wages at this point? You can be spirting director of any club in the world - which director are you prepared to convince to pay a fee and salary for Mount today? You say it yourself. You wouldn’t, if you were at Leeds, Lyon or Lausanne, it wouldn’t make sense.

Due to his wage alone he should be moved on, but due to his wage I think he'll run out his contract. Best we can hope for is that he can stay fit through most of next season and be a good squad player.

A bench CM is fine, we need a group of them anyway and it's unrealistic to buy 3 of them probably. If we look at it like a midfield 3, he'd be the 5th choice for the midfield 3 behind Bruno, Mainoo and the 2 new signings. We will need him next season. He has a fair bit of experience behind him, and his career has stalled since he joined. I know im clutching at straws with parallels but Edwin VDS had a lull in the middle of his career before reaching world class status. If Mount can stay fit i can see him playing his way into our best 11 and if, as a club, we are able to push on finally and start challenging for titles yet again then id like to see him as a part of that. The injuries though, i just don't know if he can keep himself fit.

As demonstrated in brief cameos, he’s tenacious, he always presses to retrieve possessions and he moves the ball quickly. I get his injury concerns but there’s still a good player in there.
