We know that he is a really good football player when he isn't injuredPre-season Pirlo. Did we not learn enough about Mason Mount yet?

He's a Rolls Royce and has to start against Hull based on current form. To everyone who's saying it's a friendly, he bossed it away to Brighton in the same position on the last day of the season. I'm in the camp that we don't need another midfielder - who can we sign who'll do a better job than he's doing at the moment? Throw some money at Lewis Hall instead.

He was up against Milner and Groß in that game they have a combined age of 75. We 100% need another midfielder, preferably a nailed on starter. He's a Rolls Royce and has to start against Hull based on current form. Early days, of course, but surely what we've just seen counts for something. We can just keep paying Mount 250/week to do nothing then spend 100m, plus another 300k/week for another midfielder. If Mount collapses in the next 3 friendlies then we have our answer, but if maintains the form he's already shown surely you're not suggesting we ignore it.

We certainly should be ignoring it. We won't be signing anyone for 100m in any case. He can be an option in a number of roles but not a main plan for the midfield. Or we can rely on hopes and dreams rather than the reality of the past 2 seasons.
He’s going to get injured soon and we still need a physical ground covering dmHe's a Rolls Royce and has to start against Hull based on current form. Unfortunately this. Can’t base our strategy on hope, considering his injury recordLike a new signing.
Then same old story will get injured again.
Surely you jest. Mount may well see a bowl of pudding and be out for another 3 months with a hamstring pull, which is a legitimate fear, but it's also the case that anyone else in the squad -- bar the indestructible Bruno -- may be out for 1-3 months with one ailment of another. Shaw, for sure, and we are no doubt in agreement that going into a new season with only one LB is dangerous, let alone one whose name is Luke Shaw. Maguire, yep. Martinez, yep. De Ligt, yep. We can continue to go through the squad, but the point is made.
No one has suggested that Mount is "the main plan" for midfield. Four other names first come to mind -- Fernandes, Mainoo, Tielemans and Mount. The point isn't that Mount moots the need for Tchouameni or Baleba, as it's becoming increasingly clear that Santos is more than we thought we bargained for and Cheslea fans are properly raging to this day. What we have in Mount, and not only three friendlies make the point but do his performances in the PL once he returned from injury. Is Mount Bruno's backup, Mainoo's backup or Santos's backup...the answer is yes.
If Real decided to be generous and offer us Tchouameni for 80m I might be on board with that, though Santos is making me believe now we not need Tchouameni, even if it is clearly the case that prime Tchouameni > prime Santos. Baleba for 80m, which Brighton will demand though it remains to be seen what they would settle for...nope. Maybe in the 50s, but I wouldn't bet on Baleba usurping Santos. All of which is to say that Mount is no one's "main plan for the midfield", but he does look a midfielder who can make a substantial contribution to United season, provided he stays away from bowls of pudding and refrains from walking under ladders.
So based on our current squad if we sign nobody else to have 2 per position ... He's our 4th midfielder, Lacey the other 10 behind Bruno, Zirkzee the other striker behind Sesko, Mbeumo and Amad fight it out for RW, Rashford and Cunha for LW and Dorgu with Shaw at LB? At least we fill up having 2 per position on paper. Just need them to stay fit.
Mount himself being one of the midfielder, it works? Everyone freaking out about a "ground eater"... I don't think Carrick is prioritizing that or necessarily needs it in the team. Tielemans and Mount compete for one spot, Mainoo and Santos for the other, sometimes they mix it needed too but generally id say those are the roles.

I love Mainoo but Tielemans is clearly ahead of him at this point in their careers? Tielemans is a quality player.if we start tielemans over mainoo we deserve to have another shit season

there is nothing clearly in that, even if he is better its by a small margin, IMO Mainoo is better but can see why someone would have tielemans considering he has a much bigger sample size.
depends what you think quality player means, he isnt good enough for the best clubs(or even for us as we want to get there) but as a rotation option and someone who offers something different he is a good option.
In general id classify him as a good player for villa, spurs etc. so a top 6-8 club.
Think you are underrating Tielemans by quite a bit. I think he's absolutely good enough for any of the top 5 clubs. Think he'd walk into Arsenal's starting 11 next to Rice extremely well. I don't think Elliott Anderson is anything ahead of him currently (but better fitness and much younger). He's a proper deeper playmaker and one of the best passers in the league. Mainoo is a really talented player already at a good level, but he needs to develop the passing range like Tielemans has. That's an absolute must for a big club.there is nothing clearly in that, even if he is better its by a small margin, IMO Mainoo is better but can see why someone would have tielemans considering he has a much bigger sample size.

We're looking for another (3rd) midfielder on the "defensive" side of midfield two. Mount being good in preseason doesn't change much because even if he's not available, we're unlikely to get 4th new midfielder anyway. It would be gross incompetence to rely on Mount and not buy another midfielder, pre-season and an odd game here or there means nothing. If he stays fit and plays as well as this how we accommodate everyone will be a great problem to have.
Him breaking down with injuries whilst we only have 3 midfielders is the kind of problem we don’t need and is the most likely outcome if we don’t sign another midfielder.
Tielemans is currently the better midfielderif we start tielemans over mainoo we deserve to have another shit season
Both have a big part to play next season. Cant rely on Mainoo all the time.. people forget he had just turned 21 4 months agoif we start tielemans over mainoo we deserve to have another shit season
What position is he playing at the moment?
