Mason Mount's Many Misfortunes (please don't make another waste of money post)

He's not a Prem footballer anymore. Anyone kidding themselves on he can return to the level of fitness and robustness for this league is in la la land.

Even Shaw has more chance of stringing 3 appearances together at some point in the future than Mount has.
Bold statement

Imagine the script. He'll spent next year out. Then he'll return, he'll score a couple of goals and united would be desperate to give him a contract extension. The guy will politely refuse it claiming that he felt a bit disrespected when he was injured and that PSG had come knocking. At that point united will panic and they'll offer double in terms of salary and years of contract. Few weeks after he signs, bam he'll be out again

Yep it's not an original script at all

If true then I fear that double pelvic injury Mount’d suffered in his last couple months playing for Chelsea and a subsequent surgery have completely ruined him.

No expert at all, but Im reading that only 0,14% of fractures to a human body are of the same bone(s) as Mason suffered. Could it be that even the best surgeons in this field simply dont have enough experience and practise to operate it, so it could have been botched? Feel for the lad, does strike me a good pro with right attitude to work hard, it would be devastating for him going through hell yet again.

Yet you still found it necessary to post?

Pelvic fractures in general are quite uncommon constituting 3-5% of fractures in adults. There isn’t always a single reason and treatment option for musculoskeletal system injuries which makes it all the more complicated.

Yes I feel for him. He must be going through a lot emotionally and mentally.

Thank you for an expert explanation Doc.

Sassy Colin yes I did, mainly because there are some harsh comments blaming Mount for his injuries and unavailability. Despite its just one bastard of an injury sustained at Chelsea seemingly affecting other parts of his body since then, no matter how hard Mason has been trying to get fit.

Don't let Colin get under your skin

Thought he was injured again when I saw this thread active at the top of the page

Mason Mount being sent to a clinic in Switzerland is not what I had on my bingo card for today.

Encouraging cameo, i thought he would just get injured, but he must have been training for weeks and cleared to get a real game time. Let's use him wisely but use him till the end of the season so we know he cna be a bit dependable. If he gets injured again, I would just plan without him.

Yeah I mean I'd be somewhat aggressive with him. There's no point in treating a player you spent 60m on that's hardly played with kiddie gloves at this point. If he can't string together consistent starts/appearances over a couple of months before the season end without getting hurt again then he should be disregarded in any sort of squad planning.

Giving him 10 minute cameos doesn't answer any questions

You ease players back in. Especially someone with his track record over the past couple of years. A lot of these continuous type of injuries come from rushing players back.

I’m far from his biggest fan, but take the time to get him fit and ready - then hopefully we have a useful asset for next season.

Sure in a regular scenario I agree. But he's hardly been rushed back, as a matter of fact it seems he's taken extra care to rehab and prepare as much as possible before returning to training. But treating him with kiddie gloves now that he's with the team when he's hardly played a run of games over 2 seasons now just seems pointless. We have no idea what his ability is or how well he plays in this system past a few random appearances, and there's no point in even planning for the summer with him if we don't know his ability to even play a couple of games in a row.

This isn't rushing back a key starter for our XI. It's a player that we need to figure out what we actually have with him. Otherwise it'll just be a bunch of blind hope (and again I'm not advocating for him to start every game and run 10km per game for the next month. Just saying I also don't see the value in coddling him to some random 10 min stints and "hoping" he's good to go for next season).

Must have been doing a load of shagging after that Champions League win.

For the rest of the season he seriously limited in his minutes, just having him available everyday for training would be a miracle.

Last thing United need is him starting a game and getting injured again before half time.

I still think he could wind up being a decent player for us. I've always thought he looked good in his little 20 minute cameos between month long layoffs.

Jones, Shaw, Anderson etc etc.

It just never works out like that.

Wouldn’t start him against city. A team where we’ll be chasing the ball a lot. I’d bring him on tomorrow and start him in the Europa game: need players fit and fresh for the Europa.

It's a situation where we have minimal expectations so if it actually works out in the end then great, would feel like a bonus at this point. Shame he's the one to have constant injuries with all the talk from Amorim how we loves him and that he'd be perfect for his system.

I know why some are saying throw him in and see if he can stay fit but it’s not the way to do it.

IF he can stay fit in training then the rest of the season we should be building his minutes slowly with hopefully a couple of full games at the end of the season. Then a full pre season (again holding he doesn’t break down) is the only way to get him ready for next season and then see how he handles a full playing time.

Seemingly hitting form in a way he hasn’t in years, just at the right time.

If he scores the winner in the final, I’d be tempted to say it was worth the money for that alone.

Given the money that comes from being in the CL is more than we paid for him you could literally say he paid for himself
