What I would like to know is if these people really believe this or are trying to scan people that do.

After watching the video I am surprised by the amount of accumulated anger that he had to continue with that plan for 20 minutes.
From what I read he had a great knowledge of Yugoslavia, but he also names Breivik or the crusades. He even paid tribute in the guns inscriptions to Estébanez, a Nazi who killed an antifa.
A very unknown and strange story and its not the only one.
It seems that he added everything to his "ideology"
When I searched the video there were terrible comments about the victims.
No one controls those forums? Can not be closed?
After reading some of the posters comments on here, I done a similar bit of investigation and off I went to twitter, 4chan and facebook to gauge the reactions and like yourself I was actually shocked at the level of hate towards Muslims. I'm really not the sort to shock easy nor am I a PC mad but the level of anger and the quantity too. It's a never ending stream of hatred across all social media platforms, particularly shocked at how much disgusting content was on facebook which I thought was "policed" better.

I'm not sure I've ever seen someone who wasn't a stupid cnut bringing up false flag attacks in an argument? It's a pretty neat signpost in that way.

I'm beginning to wonder if this incident isn't an anomaly, but rather a glimpse of things to come.

Really a sad day for me to hear such a thing happening to our Kiwi mates. Absolutely horrific and the idea of incorporating meme/internet culture into your killing spree is really unsettling. Just the thought of someone finding enjoyment in it... Then you have victim-blaming cnut Anning with his hate speech and righties spouting shite about false flags which is just appalling.

Usually I hear about these sorts of things happening on other sides of the planet so it never hit me that hard, and though NZ isn't quite Australia it's still very close to home and quite upsetting. A dark day indeed.

I'm inclined to agree. Taking his nonsensical ramblings seriously, arguably adds some credence to them. His 'manifesto' should, like him, simply be consigned to the dustbin of history - dismissed and forgotten about, as though they never existed.

Pieces like the Daily Mail one posted a few times in this thread, opining about how this man got here and why he did what he did, are ludicrous. He murdered 50 innocent people, including children. He's an evil terrorist cnut. End of moral analysis.

The media really do need to be responsible in how they report these things. Don't spend days leading the 24-hour news cycle with massive pictures of the killer's face, don't broadcast the opening section of his video like some kind of teaser trailer, don't publicise his bullshit manifesto, don't glamorise him as some kind of special forces warrior by describing his "commando-style" knee pads, battle fatigues and weaponry.

Instead, the focus should be on the victims. Heroes like Haji Daoud Nabi and Naeem Rashid, who sacrificed themselves trying to save other people.
Yes yes and yes.
I don’t post in these threads but often read them.

I agree about the media. The papers and news should be flooded with the pictures of the victims and victims families. Showing the destruction and devastation caused.
Not sensationalising and as you say using words such as commando style just for shock value and headlines/ clicks. No time should be spent on this person.

It’s a pretty good and simple way to tell that someone is a complete idiot.

There are a few terms that are used these days that instantly give away that the person using them is a moron and won’t have anything intelligent to say. These terms include:

Virtue signaling
SJW
False flag operation
Deep state

People are welcome to add to this list.

R.I.P to those poor innocent people, and Love to their families and loved ones.

Regarding the cowardly piece of garbage terrorist who committed the crimes - is it not time that far-right terrorists where given a catch all, media friendly name so as to be identified as a group with a shared ideology, which is what they are?

If someone who wasn't an actual member of isis, but committed a terrorist mass-murder in the name of all of isis' ideology, they would obviously be described as an isis terrorist in the media, same with the IRA in the 80s.

It's time that the neo far-right terrorists had the same treatment, and it's incredible that the media hasn't done so already.

I realise it is slightly different but I want to throw people who use the term "deus ex machina" incorrectly onto the fire too.

This would be a good idea for a new thread, so that we don’t keep taking this one off topic. Someone should spark this up.

Being complicit is when you support this guy ideology or ignoring it when someone you know spread such ideology, not trying to understand the pure evilness of his act. Saying I am complicit for watching a video is like me saying you are complicit for posting in a thread about him because you are giving what he did attention.
There is an difference between commenting on the actions of an evil man, and consuming them. And frankly watching these videos is more like voyeurism than understanding'. Let's be clear about this - watching murder videos is sick - in the old sense of the word.

Exactly.

White Power Terror attack etc is what they are - how do they avoid a catch all tag that the media loves so much...?

Brexit, Fakenews, isis (even when not actually isis), MAGA

Yet none for one of the biggest terror crime perpetrators (the single biggest?) on Earth...? Wow.

Wasn't the term fascist used widely a few decades ago?

Edit: It seems that Wikipedia chose that one too.

A lot of islamophobes have never met a muslim.
They are indoctrinated by far right propaganda. The same as Wahhabis radicals. They live in their own bubble and don't accept anyone different to them. I haven't been following this with much interest, but are the international cable news networks treating this on the same way as everytime there's a Al Qaeda or ISIS terrorist attack or no?

Obviously you can't take anything he wrote in the manifesto at face value. But the document itself manages to be equal parts anti-communism, anti-socialism, anti-globalism, anti-capitalism and anti-conservatism.

Might it just be the deranged thoughts of a lunatic killer? Maybe just?

Should be referred to as his "deranged thoughts", manifesto implies an actual ideologically sound theory. We shouldn't do him the favor of calling it manifesto only because he chose to write that word above his deranged nonsense.

These days, the word manifesto pretty much means "inane ramblings of a terrorist". It doesn't surprise me one bit that this guy was inspired by Anders Behring Breivik, because his manifesto was essentially a plagiarized, poorly written, rambling mess. Fascism is not an ideology that lends itself to insight or intellectual thought.

Indeed. Maybe we should have a basic I.Q test before we teach kids literacy. Would sort out this alt-right social media problem within a generation.

Consuming? It seems you are just a wind up merchant. There is not much difference between the two as we are both investigating the act this guy committed. I can even say that not watching it makes you more complicit as you are more likely to forget about this event than those who did watch the video and are appalled by what he did.

Moreover, you can barely call me consuming his actions as I only watched the video once and I am sure many others who are vocal about their opposition towards this act did as well.

To make this more clear to you, watching murder video is sick if you get some form of pleasure of it and only those who promote this guy ideologies or have mental problems achieve those pleasure not individuals who has already done more than openly condemn hate and his ideology.

A good article on a problem that I've been talking about for a while now, in right wing circles and also in some Muslim (well specifically Arab Muslim circles, where I have far more exposure). It focuses mostly on right wing Jews as a left wing Jewish publication but you can include all members of the trend, like Ali, Wilders, King, whoever you want really.

Rhetoric is dangerous, it is powerful and it can and does inspire acts like these. Words have consequences. This is the issue. Islamophobia is definitely mainstream now. And while the likes of Shapiro, Harris, King, Ali, Southern whoever may not themselves be violent or themselves openly call for violence against Muslims, I've always thought their rhetoric would eventually predispose to stuff like this. If you're saying Muslims are a threat to your civilisation, your way of life, your actual life. If you believe they're all rapists, paedophiles, terrorists and, on top of that, if you are being told that the governments are doing nothing about it, what is the logical end point of that if you're a 'person of action'? Do you sit idly while Muslims 'wipe out your civilisation'? Or do you take action?

Same is ultimately true for some in the Muslim community as well (well, mostly Arab is what I can best speak on). If you're talking about how Assad is killing Sunnis, if you're talking about how the West is doing x,y,z to Muslim ways of life, do you ultimately end up riling up certain people, even if you yourself never call for violence? In my view, yes.

Vile, vile stuff.
Same coin 2 sides bro, always has been.

My main issue with watching videos like that is simply the sense that I'm intruding on something that should be private. The moment someone dies (or the moments beforehand) strike me as a deeply intimate thing that shouldn't be for public consumption.

I strongly suspect that if I was a family member of one of the victims I would be extremely scornful of anyone who tried to justify watching a video in which my loved one was murdered. Even if they're not attracted by the violence (which I suspect many are, despite their protestations) they're still consuming a video based on the brutal, terrified last moments of another human being as if it's just another bit of content on the internet.

It isn't even about the gore of a video like this that makes it wrong, I think. There's a famous photograph of a girl named Regina Kay Walters who was murdered by a serial killer. The photo was taken by him shortly before he killed her. There's absolutely nothing explicit in the photograph but it still always struck me as frankly morally wrong that the last scared moments of a young kid who was about to murdered are available for anyone with a search engine to look up on demand. It just feels like a massive violation of privacy.

How is this kid getting away with egging which is a criminal offense?
Often such charges are at the discretion of the police services. They may think that charging the kid would contribute to what is already a bad atmosphere. Alternatively, they may think that the victim is a plank and wish they could have done something similar themselves.

I think they just liked the cut of his jib, the cops laughed when he said "here comes the bacon for the egg" when they got on the scene

plus I'm pretty sure he's not 18 yet so, like, what they gonna do?

Absolutely my fear too. I was at an event last night in Dublin City centre and there is a mosque right beside the the venue I was in practically. I can sadly see that being a target in the months ahead.
