I thought (regardless of wealth) he was limited to injection cap of 15m?
Yes...on 1st July.

Until then we are a prem club in accounting terms as the 25-26 accounting year ends 30th June. So we could in theory inject 90m tomorrow and it'd count against 25-26 finances still.

My guess is we see the owners inject to the limit of what is allowed, then sell Fernandes, Summerville in July/August which gives us 40-50m book profit and gives headroom to finance a championship push.

Until Kretinsky brought those shares out the fear was the sale of Fernandes and Summerville would be what covers much of the debt with none of that going for the 26-27 records which would severely damage what we could do going forward.

Mateus has a better crust, Mainoo is cheesier. Casemiro’s tomato sauce is better but nothing bests Wharton’s pepperoni.
The foundations of a good pizza are all in the flour, get that right and you're winning.

Can't believe the imbeciles that run the club haven't figured this out yet.

Embarrassing

If we were doing that then we would be bidding right now to get those players. It would act as a leverage against clubs who are asking silly money for the likes of Fernandes and Scott. This is not just about transfers but also how we operate. We're so damn slow. Even the Ederson deal has yet to be completed, Meanwhile we're still 'preparing a bid' for Fernandes whatever that means. Not to forget that silly 'we want Eliot Anderson' propaganda that dragged for months only to end up with an egg on our face as we learnt that we can't even afford him. That's naive and amateur
This is gold. You're speculating on speculation, and throwing unjustified insults at people who can't respond.

Enjoy the gossip for what it is, see who we sign, and try to enjoy watching any new signings improve the team you support.

Ahh, interesting, that all makes sense then, cheers

Yeah if we could get Camavinga for like £30M-40M that would be a steal, but you know RM is going to look for double that from PL teams even with his shitty injury record
Yeah if they wanted Tchouameni like money then obviously look elsewhere to compliment this guy

Get a grip man, it’s June FFS and the PL transfer window hasn’t even opened yet. Is this your first transfer window? Things take time. Signings happen over the course of the whole summer. That is perfectly normal for all clubs, and you can never properly judge a window until it’s closed.

You’re also falling into the trap of using hindsight when comparing previous signings to prospective ones. It’s easy to look back and pick out he success stories and say this signing was a dead cert or that one was guaranteed. But all signings are a risk. None are guaranteed to work.
I mean, I can understand his frustrations because we have always been slow in the transfer market. This isn’t a one off thing. And especially so when you see Real Madrid moving so fast to secure the player Mou wants.

This was never gonna be quick, just remember the simplicity of Real deals compared to this

Thread's badly losing momentum. People too distracted watching football to argue about transfers.

We'll never sign him at this rate.

It's a bit of a boring narrative now. Real Madrid have mainly secured quick free's because 90% of the footballing world falls over themselves to play for them.

We have a completely different recruitment team in charge now and there were some noticeable improvements in our dealings last summer. This summer we got our first signing secured before most other teams, and we seem to be working on others right now. Again, the PL window isn’t even open yet so it’s a little early to be throwing toys out the pram.

Comparing us to Real Madrid is also a little harsh - they’ve always been a huge draw, and they’ve been much more successful than us in recent years.

United first pre season game is on the 18th of July. They'll probably be in camp at least a week before that. For priority signings not participating in the world cup we should be getting deals done over the next three weeks, I'll say especially the Fernandes one.
We're actually in a situation were there's only one obvious starting role vacant so that means the majority of our signing should have time bedding in going into the first few league games at least before cup games commence.

Say after Fernandes we go on to purchase Hall, Scott, and a forward to replace Zirkzee they wouldn't be walking straight into the team.
If anytime we shouldn't rush and appear desperate, that will only increase the cost of deals, we have no reason to be desperate, we're in a good place at the moment and we only need most of the signings for depth. We wouldn't be counting on them much till after the first couple of games into the season.

I couldn’t give the slightest toss about the relegation thing - football is a team game and he played for two poor teams. Keane was relegated with Forest and it didn’t make a damn bit of difference to how he did with us.

You never know if any player will cope with the pressure here, but knowing they can cope physically with the league removes one element of risk at least.
Liverpool signed Robertson and Wijnaldum both from relegated teams, and went on to become title challengers.

Some people just don't understand how a team game works.

Excellent points.

Good points and agreed.

All correct, but an additional point to that; a lot of transfers are often domino effects. You mention Zirkzee; we’ll need a deal in place for him before adding a forward. With the World Cup going on, a lot of those dominoes will be in stasis.

M Fernandes is a different case though, ‘cause he’s not there, West Ham are relegated and they need to make sales. I reckon a deal will be agreed before the end of the month. £60m plus £5-10m in add-ons at a guess.

Yeah agreed, I expect a forward and the third midfielder to only come in after Zirkzee and Ugarte move on. So end of the window sort of business.
We'll probably push for Fernandes and possibly Hall. Then sales will be the next agenda.

We will need a deal in place for Rashford before we move for a new forward and that is going to be the issue.

I'm certain it won't be before the 1st of July so as to push that sale into the 26-27 financial year which provides far more scr headroom.

I disagree. I think it hinges solely on Zirkzee. Any revenue from Rashford will be treated as a bonus, like the sell on fee for Elanga. Worst case, he’s on another loan on deadline day.

To me, this is a real X/Twitter way of arguing someone isn’t a top footballer. Crap players win trophies too, it isn’t indicative of much at all.
You have to read through the content to why I said this, not arguing if he's a top footballer, just don't think he's in the league of Vitinha and João Neves right now. The option of Mateus Fernandes and Alex Scott is a little sad. Guess it's just the market we are in now.

Yes it means nothing, just mentioned our options are a player relegated in successive seasons and a Bournemouth player, it's just a little sad for our club that's all I was getting at.
Fernandes can definitely do a job, especially surrounded by better players but he is no 85m player.

Why is that sad though? If they’re the right profile of player then it doesn’t matter in the slightest which club they’re coming from or whether they were relegated. We bought Keane from relegated Forest - was that sad?

So you want to add injury prone average players to the squad? Interesting
I still believe he is young enough to overcome these injuries, so how can someone with stats similar to Tchouameni be classed as average. Very quiet for news on this today, so hopefully it's just a case of the calm before the storm like Mbeumo last summer.

Mount was only a year older than Camavinga when he joined us. That should serve as a warning regarding assumptions that players will overcome persistent injury issues.

Some points that have been missed or ignored a lot on here, but yeah, we're not that desperate now and depth is our biggest concern.

I know deep down it's a silly risk, however just want us to add an experienced name with this guy. The other three I would love to sign who fit that bill just aren't for sale or priced out unfortunately

Where was Vitinha when PSG signed him?

Mount didn’t have persistent injury issues when he joined us, so he doesn’t really serve as an example of that.

Yes he did. He had a persistent pelvic injury at Chelsea, having surgery to try and address it in April 2023 - a few months before he joined us.

True if they are the right profile. Fernandes with the right people around him, may grow. But if him and Alex Scott are the signings, it's pretty sad. Kobbie needs someone Strong, athletic, powerful and experienced etc to guide him. They have to tick a lot of boxes. We have to get this signing right.

We've already spoken about this above. We are talking about Vitinha and João Neves now as players.

I actually think that's pretty exciting. Two technically adept players who can both cover ground well, compete physically in the PL, and who have a mix of attributes in possession (passing and carrying). Those are all attributes we've sorely lacked from CM for a long time. The one thing it lacks is experience, but you can't have everything unless you have an unlimited budget, which we don't. In my opinion this is very far away from "sad". Sad would be Baleba, Ederson and keeping Ugarte.

Do you think Scott would make more sense as a partner to this guy than someone like Sangare/Camara. I just feel there is certain games like the big league ones and CL KO ties where we will need someone of that profile.

I'm not sure - depends how Carrick wants his midfield to operate which I'm not privy to of course. To be clear this isn't me advocating for Scott as the third - it's just me saying that if he is the third on top of Fernandes, then I wouldn't find it "sad", I'd find it quite exciting. My preference for the third is still Tchoumeni, but it's not that likely to happen.

So proven, world class players employed by the richest club in the world? I doubt you’ll be satisfied with any of our signings any time soon.

Around £38m on top of the loan fee they had paid.
So 38m plus whatever we can get for Rashford, Zirkzee and Ugarte, hopefully a bit over 100m. Adding another CM, a LB, backup striker, in addition to the 40m for Ederson takes us to 250m spend minus the 100m is 150m net spend. Probably right.
