Sorry to reply late and revisit this. I may be pretty bias as everyone tends to have some anchorong or fixation toward certain player targets at some point, and this is probably mine.
That being said, I think his passing is very good, he stands out in the PL as one of the rare players who sprays 50 yard passes into the path of running wingers for fun. He has his moments of vertically passing across the floor too into the feet of attackers with their back to goal, which Casemiro did too.
I also think he gets stuck in and loves the battle in midfield like Casemiro did. I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if before long he was a Casemiro of last season with legs. Probably not the big headed goals, but everything else.
If we can get this over the line and sign Lewis hall. I’d be buzzing with the window so far.
That's not true:
Mainoo career so far: 78 PL appearances, 5260 minutes (7 G/A in case you're interested)
MF career so far: 72 PL appearances, 5948 minutes (13 G/A)
So MF actually has more PL minutes, it's just that Mainoo's are spread over one extra season with him gradually breaking into the team. MF also had 33 appearances in the Portuguese league before signing for Southampton. Of course, we'd still be be at an experience deficit with Case leaving.
I meant that Mainoo has played in international finals, cup finals and European football. Fernandes hasn't played in a game of anything close to that magnitude yet.

Fair enough, hopefully you're right. Personally when I've watched him, I've found him a bit more erratic with his passing, I've not watched masses of him though and maybe anchoring to the games he played against us.
That's where I think he'll thrive, the amount of recovery tackles and pressure I've seen him do in the games I've watched, were very impressive. Technically looks very sound too, I think if we can be more consistent in the passing you're describing, I agree he'll be very close to the same effect as Casemiro and allow us to play much higher up the pitch.
Really hope this will be the case. If they could even add a 3rd midfielder it would be the perfect window.

I have two Newcastle supporting friends who are laughing that we might pay £80m for him, yet both of them think Hall is worth £70m and Tonali is worth £120m. Pretty ridiculous.

My brother is a huge Saints fan and says They have a 15% sell on profit only not the whole transfer fee, he also said that Fernandes is good but not worth anywhere near £80m, of course he was judging him in a team that got relegated and said he held onto the ball too long, however he admitted that what he’s seen of him at West Ham , he’s definitely improved an awful lot and £55-60m is probably his true value.
For the record £60m would only give the saints about £3.5m on sell on clause and West Ham £56.5m so a healthy £18.5m profit. I think we’ll end up doing what we do as a club and end up paying £72.5m plus £10m in add ons!

I guess this would essentially explain it? Low volume of touches overall so probably won't have that impressive pass numbers based on quantity alone, but very progressive with the amount of the ball he has.
X axis is progressive passes per 100 touches and he appears to be higher than any other midfielder in Europe's top 5 leagues in this metric.

Mount lost 6 games for Chelsea the three years prior to that in total, two from illness. He had one pelvic injury the last year at Chelsea that took 11 games, playing 35 games for them that year. He never had a pelvic injury at United.
You don’t call what he had a Chelsea ‘persostent injuries’. You could have called the pelvic injury the last year at Chelsea a ‘current injury’, if he had suffered from it at United, but it’s been other issues at United, calf etc.
At any rate, when he came to United, he had a very decent injury record for Chelsea.
Whatever fee we pay for Fernandes, would be the expectation from Bournemouth. That's how it works apparently in the PL.

That doesn’t change the original point though - that Camavinga has had a very poor injury record, and that we should be especially wary of that having already been burned by signing other injury prone players like Mount (because whatever his Chelsea record was there’s absolutely no doubt he has become a very injury prone player since that surgery).
He isn't. You've just named two of the best midfielders in the world, that play for the best team. We're likely going to need to unearth a world class midfielder as clubs typically dont want to sell them.

Buying a Bournemouth player never worked out for anyone. Ronaldo was an unknown teenager who had one good preseason game against us. Bruno Fernandes was a big fish in small pond. Vidic and Evra were basically nobodies, etc…

It's a bit frustrating that we let them get their act together with the ownership issue, feel like we could have snagged a bargain. I reckon it still gets done at about 70m all in, which does seem a tad expensive, but at least he's got the most time on his side.

I don’t think that makes sense. Take all your thoughts and 180 them for the angles West Ham will be coming at the window from. Stalling, protracting, looking for any possible avenue to benefit themselves. When you’re in trouble and have bills to pay, you don’t leap at the first opportunity to pay them, you do your damnedest to find ways to find the least troublesome way out and hedge your bets. It can leave you in a deeper hole, or maybe you are blessed enough to be saved in some manner. Either way, those circling will have to wait their turn. Perhaps they can then whittle you down.
