Why the hell do people keep putting him as a left winger in supposed 433 formations?

Has he ever played as a winger? I can’t imagine he would be very good at it. He needs to be a no. 10 or (less effectively) a false nine.

With an overlapping fullback, he'll be able to pull into similar positions to where he plays currently. He doesn't need to hug the touchline.

Do people think that wing positions when written on a team sheet means they must hug the touch line or something?

He was our only good player against Fulham but was utterly invisible last night and that was one of the worst penalties I've ever seen. The good player comes to United and quickly turns shite curse continues.

Massive exaggerations. He was trying to make things happen on his own at times last night, one of the few who took responsibility even if his performance wasn't great. The pen was not good, but I've seen a hundred worse ones.

Yoro was class against Fulham and outside of the first what 30 mins? Cunha was pretty much invisible in the Fulham game to just like last night.

Err, I'm pretty sure most people aren't referring to an Ancelotti-style 4321 when they write out a front 3 of Mbeumo/Sesko/Cunha. So no, he won't be hugging the touchline as he's a right-footed inside forward, but presumably he will be filling the role of left winger rather than no. 10...?

He's only played that position four times since coming to England.

He'll occupy a pretty similar position to what he is currently doing. Of course he'll be fine there.

Cunha, Mbuemo, Sesko are upgrades to what we had last season..maybe except Rashford ..
What we need is a tactic of them receiving balls on the opponents half and them having a chance to shoot on goal..
We need to buy midfielders.. we need a tactic to get them isolated with the defense.. like how we did against Arsenal..
This tactic of 3 defenders.. passing to each other and then to Dalot then to Ugarte will not get us goals ..
We need to play Cunha, mbuemo sesko and Bruno closer to the opponent goals..

I think the most obvious way to do this would be - as you alluded - to drop a CB and push someone into the midfield/higher up. 3 CBs is leading to opponents either basically marking our forwards out of the game/ensuring there is no space for us to exploit by dropping off the defenders in possession (aka Fulham) or overloading us with presses when we have the ball at the back (last night v Grimsby).

The fact that opponents know we are going to stick to the same general formation and structure gives them confidence in their ability to adapt midgame depending on what is/ins't working for them.

The above is probably a long way to say we're too rigid and one dimensional in our approach which totally negates and detracts from the best aspects of players like Cunha and Mbuemo who thrive on space, stretched games and - to an extent - chaos. Our manager wants us to play in a way that means games rarely end up like this.

Won’t be long before Cunha’s form drops and becomes a shadow of his former self. Same will happen with Mbuemo. United is a graveyard for most players who come here, so much toxicity from the media, fans, instability with management and terrible coaches.

It’s almost impossible for players to thrive here.

He was being too direct, trying to run and create openings for his own shots which were largely blocked by Grimsby defenders. A bit more team play would have helped

He looks quite frustrated for the last 2 games
Shouldn’t have missed that pen then

In all seriousness, can’t blame him, he’s been class and been fighting but not working out. Should’ve scored a few times. He’s the main reason I think we might hopefully start working a few things out. But we need a keeper signing asap plus a midfielder, and ideally a new manager refresh

Cunha is class. Anyone can see that. Don't agree he was bad last night, or against Fulham, he and Mbuemo are obviously good players and they're dangerous. It's just not happening at the minute though in terms of goals but they're coming.

Feel like our problems are stemming almost entirely from midfield, the back 3 and the wing backs. We are utterly devoid of class in those areas and as the trope goes, a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Genuinely need more service to him, Mbeumo and Sesko, and by service I mean not balls pumped 60 yards at them by Dorgu or Ugarte or something. It's a good front 3 and Cunha is gonna be an important part of our team, disappointing to see him being written off already by some.

Because he a.d the rest of those plumbers didn't want to be there last night. Amorim will get the brunt of that loss, but last night came down to the players just wanting to collect a check.

The good player who literally overperformed his xG more than anyone else in the league, at an obviously unsustainable level unless he's Messi part 2, and hence is a clear overpay at £60M+ to any management team with a cursory understanding of analytics, comes to United and quickly turns shite curse regresses to the player he truly is continues.

Fixed it for you.

And you can say the same for Mbeumo. Betting markets have both at about ~8 league goals this year. Both unfortunately probably not great purchases given where the team is at, their age, and the money spent. But hey, overpays is what we do around here.

I like watching him play. One of the few bright spots and even when things aren't going his way, he manages to produce good moments. Very optimistic about him despite being critical of our transfer strategy.

He's class. Shame he went off injured as I think with how we played he would've registered a G/A today if he kept playing. Hope he's back quickly.

Best player on the park while he was there. Really, really hope it's a couple of week niggle and we see him again after the international break.

Gutted he is injured. Surely unlikely he makes it back for City given what we saw.

The glass half full is that he won't be playing in 4100 meters altitude in Bolivia.

Here's hoping it's a Ryan Giggs one and he's miraculously fine as soon as the break is over!

Seems pretty unlikely when you play for Brazil in a World Cup year, though. :(
