I'm aware as I follow Ligue 1. Osimhen was 6 years ago, inflation in transfers is rife. Bakwa went to forest for 35. I just don't see him leaving for anything less than 50m euros.
I just checked every Ligue 1 transfer last summer and not a single player was sold by a Ligue 1 team for over €40m. You can say you think €35m is too much for a player like Bakwa, but the reality is, even selling an incredibly average or in some cases outright bad player in the Premier League is near impossible for less than €40m. Even knowing the financial situation in Ligue 1 I expected to find a couple examples of bigger deals, especially after you bigging up the impacts of inflation. Adrien Truffert moved to Bournemouth for just €13m and has had a great debut season for Bournemouth. After looking into the last summer window in more detail I'm even more convinced Pardo would cost less than €40m

Fair enough, I don't see it like that. Would be delighted if that was the case though.

Expenses Claim: Scouting Trip to watch Mattiuas Fernandesz.

'Hang on... we've got receipts for Eurostar in here! You were only supposed to go to the fkn London Stadium!'

Even so, Lille aren't in a healthy financial position either. Chevalier had a terrible season at PSG but he was viewed as one of the better goalkeepers in the league when PSG signed him, and he was young, so going for €40m (£34m) really isn't that outrageous without the benefit of hindsight. An equivalent standard goalkeeper of a similar age in the Premier League would likely cost £55m+

Yoro is a clear outlier here. If you go back to the prior season they sold Baleba for just €27m. The season before that they sold 2 of their most important players and 2 of the best players in the entire Ligue 1 at the time in Amadou Onana and Sven Botman for €40m and €37m respectively. These sort of fees aren't high for Utd and I don't know who you realistically think we could target in these positions who would be cheaper and fit the profile of player we're looking for.
Relatively speaking, I do agree there’s better value in the French league for some of the reasons you’ve mentioned. And I agree if it were a transfer to a mid table premier league club it would likely be €40m or less. But the fact is, we (and other top premier league clubs) are always quoted more than say a Brighton because selling clubs know we can afford more. Jacquet just cost Liverpool more than Yoro did and Doku went for €60m. Every player’s situation is different of course and not saying this lad is as highly rated as them, but I absolutely think the fee to us will be higher than if a Brighton were to get him.

Wish we more often employed the strategy of letting mid table clubs agree a fee and then swoop in.

Yeah that would be a sound strategy with this, however gut feeling says we aren't gonna do it

I like him.

Would be perfect alongside Mateus Fernandes, Bruno Fernandes and Bruno Guimaraes.
Yes we should try to create the most confusing XI in the world.

Emilio Martinez

Matheus Nunes
Lisandro Martinez
Theo Hernandez
Lucas Hernandez

Mateus Fernandes
Enzo Fernandez
Bruno Fernandes

Matias Fernandez-Pardo
Hernandes Rodrigues
Lautaro Martinez

Subs: James Rodriguez, Bruno Guimaraes, Mateus Mané, Martin Fernandez, Martim Fernandes

Slap a big wad of cash down for all the Gomes' at wolves.

We like pace.

We also really like Matias and Fernandez and different versions of those names.

Probably a filter our scouts use.
If the rest of the forum is anything to go by, they can't spell names correctly and get multiple results when searching for specific players in the database.

Double swoop for this guy and Bouaddi which would cost less than Anderson (haven't seen either).

He’s very quick, with similiar vibes as Bales early kick and run style, however im not seeing clinical finishing or an eye for it. His delivery also seems to be average.
He looks a talent but believe it would be a speculative kove.

Tzolis would be a similiarly attractive deal for the price, however he looks much more of a clinical finisher.

Very exciting prospect. He'll surprise a lot of you when coming on for Belgium in the WC. Skilled player and extremely fast.

I thought the brief was an experienced striker.
Bit of a strange one, we now consider Dorgu back up to Cunha, with Cunha also being able to play as a ST if needed.

Then we have Mbeumo who can play ST, with Amad as back up, as well as Lacey.

I think the difference whether ST or LW will come down to who's more attainable, and how much we spend on CMs and a LB.

I like how we've approached this window, it sounds like we have our ducks in order with many targets spoken to and outlined deals in place in case we spend too much on a CM for example, it then moves the budget for ST/LW/LB.

We might well say Cunha backup ST for next season, Dorgu back up LB if we cant get Hall for the right money, so we go for a LW.

There's also Shaw coming to the twilight of his career and how Amass develops next season.

Maybe if that third midfielder costs around £40-£45m or get priced out for Hall then could still move for this guy later in window. Mind you if he has a good World Cup then price could significantly increase.

IMO Zirkzee is a better striker than Cunha. Cunha hasn't had a single good game as a ST, I dont think he's even scored a goal as a ST.

Mbeumo is a better ST than Cunha. I have no wonder why but Cunha looses half his ability when playing central.

Mbeumo is pretty shit as a striker as well. Looks lost when we are not playing on the counter

I disagree with this massively. He makes some superb runs and positions himself to get lots chances.
Interesting. I still remember the West Ham game where he couldn’t impose himself at all and it happens to him mostly in games that are less open

I wouldnt go by one off games. Vs Forrest he should have got a hattrick but only landed 1. People said he was shite but he constantly makes the right runs, gets in the right positions to have these chances - in many ways thats the hard part.
His rise to prominence came when he stepped in for Toney during the ban and he did really well for Brentford. Obviously hes better joining from the right but I think when we might tactically not want a focal point, or if Sesko is injured, hes a good alternative. I like that hes a different type of forward too.

Thats not to say I wouldnt welcome squad depth. I would have liked Raul Jiminez for a season or two. Quite fit still at 35, can be a fine squad addition and happy to be off the bench at that age.

i think even Hojlund would have almost scored a hatrick vs forest. They were barely defending.

Id hope we get in a decent striker to compete with Sesko.Mbeumo should be the last resort when our strikers are out

I agree that's why I wouldn't go by one off games. I did go on to explain how he had a bigger sample up top under Brentford, I think that's a better piece to look at personally.

Anyway this is the Fernandes thread.

Reminds me of Garnacho but with a brain between his ears rather than a pile of silly string.

yes. lets do it.Sign them all.

Matias Fernandez-Pardo
Mateus Fernandes
Bruno Guimaraes
Matheus Mane

Signed by Newcastle. I remember checking him out when we were linked earlier on this thread and thought he looked a good prospect.

That was at closer to 40m though. At 60m, this seems much riskier. Still looking forward to how he does in the PL. One to watch.
